In most families, there is that one person who shines like a star. In the Pitt family, you’d think that Brad Pitt, who is the oldest brother, would easily take that honor, but it turns out that younger brother Doug is giving the famous actor a run for his money.

Three years younger than Brad, Doug Pitt is a highly-successful businessman and philanthropist. He was the first person to cycle down Mount Kilimanjaro, and he used his achievement to raise $750,000 towards clean water projects in Tanzania. He received a humanitarian leadership award from the Starkey Hearing Foundation, for his efforts in Africa and in his home state of Missouri, via the Care to Learn program. He got this award in 2011. Someone else who got this award is the former POTUS, Bill Clinton.

Doug is a tireless advocate for children. He works hard to support more than 500 homeless children in the Southwest Missouri region.

Doug has been married for three decades to his wife, Lisa, and has three grown children. His son is named Landon and his daughters are called Sidney and Reagan.

While Brad is wonderful and also dedicates his time and money towards giving back, this list offers a look at some interesting facts about his lesser-known, yet very impressive brother, Doug Pitt.

15 A Home Town Boy Paying It Forward

Doug Pitt was a successful businessman before he decided to pay it forward through his work as founder and board member of Care To Learn. Doug runs his non-profit like a business to ensure its success. He started the non-profit after he heard about a child being made fun of because he was wearing his mother’s jeans to school due to poverty.

Today, 34 Care to Learn chapters are found in Missouri schools. The program runs directly within school districts. Each school has a Care to Learn liaison. When a liaison sees a student in need, a request is made to Care to Learn. If the request is approved, Care to Learn instantly starts working on it. More than 1,000,000 child requests have been filled thanks to Doug Pitt's work.

14 Tabloid Tip Offs?

For years, Doug was very quiet whenever the press asked him questions about his famous brother. Gossip Cop reports that Doug said, “I was ‘no comment’ for years. Now, when I get calls from the paparazzi, I make up my own stories just to see if they’ll get into print. And I’ve started taking photographs of them, and they don’t like it. I just started that recently. Doing things more on my terms.”

13 The Secret Of His Success

Doug Pitt began his career by building a computer company in 1991. Recently, the business mogul returned to his roots and re-purchased the company.

KSPR reports that Doug Pitt said, "Obviously I'm sentimental to something I started out of thin air 26-years ago, so to have some control over that, that's neat.” He added, "Our industry has gotten a little lazy and we're not as attentive to the customer needs, and unfortunately the customer is not getting the best value out of that. We want to change that to the way we did things before.”

12 Not The Only Philanthropist In The Family

Doug Pitt earned his initial wealth working in the tech and real estate sectors and has also focused efforts on giving back. Thanks to his philanthropic work, in spring 2010, he was awarded the title of Goodwill Ambassador for the United Republic of Tanzania.

His humanitarian efforts include helping to provide clean water, education, agricultural support, and sanitation. As a board member of the water drilling company, WorldServe, Doug has helped bring clean water to over two million people since 2006.

11 How It Feels To Have A Famous Brother

In any other family, Doug Pitt would be the superstar, but thanks to his brother’s fame, Brad Pitt often takes center stage. Doug knows that he’s “The second most famous Pitt in his family". While this could be a lot to take for someone more insecure, Doug seems to have fun joking about his second-place position. He has even teased his brother about it from time to time.

10 A Little Healthy Competition

Being the best at what they do seems to be important to both Pitt brothers. When asked about Brad during an interview, Doug said, "I think he does a pretty good job at being normal - for what normal is to (him).”

Doug added that Brad does the best he can to shut out some of the noise that comes with being famous.

9 His Net Worth

Comparing Doug and Brad’s net worth isn’t exactly comparing apples to apples, but we’re going to do it, anyway. According to Idol Net Worth, Doug is worth a cool 240 million dollars. Impressive, eh? Wealthy Gorilla reports that in 2020, Brad is worth 300 million dollars. Considering the differing levels of fame, this is a close race.

8 The Beer Commercial

In an effort to raise money for his non-profit, Care to Learn, Doug teamed up with Mother’s Brewing Company. The brewery agreed to donate a certain amount of the sales of their 'Doin’ Good Orange Wheat Ale' to help fund the health, hunger, and hygiene of Missouri kids in need.

To promote this project, an ad was put together where Doug played his brother’s character from the movie Se7en. The video was called 6ix, and Doug playfully yelled, “What’s in the box? Tell me what’s in the flippin’ box!”

7 The Elephant In The Room

Even though it’s admittedly annoying to constantly be asked questions about your brother, especially while you’re doing some pretty amazing things yourself, Doug still supports his famous brother.

Doug said, “I couldn’t be more proud of him. I think the monotony of it is, I’ve answered the same questions now for 25 years. ‘How is he doin’?’ ‘Do you see him?’… I understand their excitement, but if you were asked every week for 25 years the same question, your eyes would kind of glaze over.”

6 Sister Julie

There is another lesser-known Pitt sibling and she is Julie. This Pitt sister remains in the Pitt family's home state of Missouri with her five children (including two sons that she and her husband adopted from Ethiopia).

Several sources reported that Julie wasn’t a huge fan of Angelina Jolie. If this was true, hopefully, the siblings are now able to spend more quality time together. Brad and Angelina have been over for a long time now.

5 Carving Out His Own Career

Doug Pitt comes from a hard-working family. His mom, Jane, was a school counselor and his dad, William, ran a trucking firm and dabbled in real estate. This work ethic is something that all three Pitt siblings embrace. Doug has won dozens of awards and major recognition for his volunteer and community service work.

4 Doug's Profitable Hobby

In addition to his work in business and philanthropy, Doug is also an artist. He has a career where he travels a lot, so there are plenty of great places to take photos. Doug’s photographs have been displayed in galleries in New York, Missouri, California, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania. All profits from the sale of his work go towards providing people in need with clean water.

3 Family Ties

Rumour has it that Doug’s wife was not happy when only Doug (and not the rest of the family) was invited to Brad and Angelina’s wedding ceremony. In fact, 80’s Kids reports that Doug’s wife has made comments about Doug being forced to live “under the Brad cloud”.

2 Doug On Brad

One of the reasons why Doug makes up weird and wild stories about his brother, Brad, is that he knows that his brother blocks it all out anyway. Doug said of his brother, “His way of handling all the publicity is, he doesn’t read it. He doesn’t look. I’ll ask him about something, and he’ll have no idea what I’m talking about.”

1 Brad On His Family

While trying to maintain his sobriety, post-divorce from Angelina, it appears that Brad’s priorities have shifted. He is known to care deeply for his siblings, mom, and children, and is often spotted out with them.

When it came to his personal goals, Brad candidly said, “The avoidance of pain is a real mistake. It's the real missing out on life. It's those very things that shape us, those very things that offer growth, that make the world a better place, oddly enough, ironically. That make us better."

He then added, “People on their deathbeds don't talk about what they obtained or were awarded. They talk about their loved ones or their regrets—that seems to be the menu."
