Addison Rae continues to reach new career heights after starring in her first Netflix film, He’s All That, which premiered on the streaming platform on August 27.

Unfortunately for the 20-year-old TikTok star, however, the flick has been heavily criticized for its “cheesy” storyline along with a “cringe-worthy” scene of Rae performing her rendition of Katy Perry’s 2010 hit “Teenage Dream.”

The two-minute clip surfaced on Twitter just hours after the film’s release, and it didn’t take long for people to weigh in on their thoughts. Needless to say, the response was anything but positive.

Social media users said the brunette absolutely “butchered” Perry’s song, and it certainly didn’t help that she also incorporated a series of TikTok dance moves, making the overall performance “unbearable to watch,” as one person put it.

While the clip of Rae singing “Teenage Dream” has gotten a lot of negative attention, it’s undoubtedly helping the film gain a lot of publicity.

Fans reacted on Twitter, saying that the performance was “embarrassing,” while others acknowledged that Rae probably earned a decent paycheck for her role as Padgett Sawyer — and perhaps it was more about the money, to begin with.

He’s All That has earned a total rating of 3.9/10 on Rotten Tomatoes with only 33% of 36 critics having something positive to say about the 90-minute motion picture.

The Guardian harshly reviewed Rae’s performance, having also found an issue with the fact that the film carries too much censorship which makes certain aspects of the movie quite unrealistic.

“But the censorship carries too far; whereas the original’s teens smoked, drank, vomited, made out and lay in bed together, He’s All That presents a high school in which students drink fancy mocktails, barely kiss, and avoid swearing.

"It’s maybe for the best that there’s no pube pizza here, but the obvious avoidance of anything remotely racy lends the movie a sterile, uncanny feel.”

Only time will tell on whether Rae will continue down the path of becoming a movie star, but if fans are to go by her performance in He’s All That, she may want to stick to TikTok.
