What exactly has Miles Teller been up to since War Dogs? Seriously, we're not exactly sure. Yes, he is set to appear opposite Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick, but that's been continuously pushed due to the global pandemic. But given the fact Miles was one of the hottest young actors on the rise, it's incredibly surprising that he's not been more prevalent in pop culture. In a year already filled with canceling celebrities, it's fair to wonder if Hollywood has permanently axed Miles from the spotlight. Here's exactly what's going on...

Miles' Career Right Before Things Changed Forever

Miles broke onto the scene in 2010 in the movie Rabbit Hole. In fact, his co-star, Nicole Kidman, liked him so much that she handpicked him for the role, essentially launching his career. Not long after, he was cast in the party movie Project X, the remake of Footloose, and the utterly charming and honest The Spectacular Now, opposite Shailene Woodley. Miles would work with Shailene again in the Divergent movies. Around the same time, Miles became one of the hottest and most sought-after young actors in Hollywood.

At the same time, he starred in a major hit and a major flop. Without a doubt, Whiplash is the best movie in his filmography while Josh Trank's Fantastic Four is easily his worst.

While Miles played leading roles in two movies from 2017, Only The Brave and Thank You For Your Service, his last big Hollywood role was in 2016's War Dogs, opposite Jonah Hill, Ana De Armas, and Bradley Cooper.

While Miles shot Top Gun: Maverick between 2017 and 2021, he was almost entirely missing from the action during those years. Will he come back? Well, yes. He's scheduled to appear in a few more movies. But these films aren't the big blockbusters or studio projects one would expect from him.

His Career Was Falling In Around Him

After giving Damien Chazelle a master hit with his outstanding performance in Whiplash, it made sense that he would be offered the role in his next film, La La Land. Unfortunately for Miles, Damien changed his mind...

"I got a call from my agent, saying, 'Hey, I just got a call from Lionsgate. Damien told them that he no longer thinks you're creatively right for the project. He's moving on without you.'" Miles Teller explained to Esquire Magazine. "So he sent him a text: What the f***, bro?"

While there are reports of Miles quitting La La Land, he has claimed that the project went through a ton of turmoil. And during that turmoil, he remained loyal to the project. According to Miles, it was the director who just didn't want to work with him anymore. But why?

We don't know what exactly went down with La La Land, and why Miles was replaced by Ryan Gosling, but we do know that Miles's career was suffering due to reports that he was difficult.

In fact, in the very Esquire article that he said that Damien Chazelle dumped him from La La Land, many felt that Miles was represented poorly and that the journalist was actively trying to make him look bad. After all, the first line of the article was "You're sitting across from Miles Teller at the Luminary restaurant in Atlanta and trying to figure out if he's a d**k."

And then he was arrested...

According to eOnline, Miles was arrested for public intoxication in San Diego back in 2017, the last year he released a movie. Although Miles Tweeted in his defense, "Went down to SD to see my buddy before he deployed. I wasn't arrested I was detained bc there was no evidence to charge me with a crime. Don't believe everything you read, especially from a third-party entertainment news source trying to get clicks. Appreciate the concern."

While there could have been a misunderstanding or, at least, much more to this story, this was just another piece of and press for the War Dogs actor.

A Pandemic And A Wedding

Given the fact that many projects have continued to film during the pandemic, albeit slowly, Miles' career was definitely harmed by it. Chances are, if Top Gun: Maverick released in 2020 as planned, it would have reinvigorated Miles' career. After all, even with all of his bad press, the actor does not appear to have been canceled by Hollywood.

But the pandemic's impact in constantly delaying the theatrical release of Top Gun: Maverick doesn't explain his near three-year absence from the industry. However, Keleigh Sperry might.

In 2019, Miles tied the knot with his model girlfriend of three years, after announcing his engagement in 2017. Based on Keliegh's Instagram, the gorgeous model has been enjoying a lot of downtime with her increasingly buff husband. In fact, there are copious photos of them enjoying tropical locations and exploring the world.

But all of this aside, it appears as though Miles really doesn't care that people are wondering where he went. He seems comfortable in his career and where it's going.

In an interview with Men's Health, Miles said, "I'm not one of those people who worry about if people don't see me every six months. I don't feel like my career is dying. It's going to happen when it happens and that's fine."
