Some celebrities are able to excel in multiple areas of entertainment, meaning that they can find an audience doing just about anything they please. LL Cool J and Jamie Foxx are perfect examples of this, as both men have been highly successful in music and in acting over the years.

Their worlds officially collided on the set of Any Given Sunday, which is a sports movie that many circle back to and enjoy to this day. While filming the movie, things got physical between the pair, leading some to wonder if their beef from the 90s is one that is still alive and well today.

Let’s take a look back at the brawl between LL Cool J and Jamie Foxx and where they stand now.

They Came To Blows Filming Any Given Sunday

LL Cool J and Jamie Foxx don’t seem like two people who would throw hands on a movie set, but these guys wound up colliding while filming Any Given Sunday. They were both younger actors at the time, and their brawl wound up going down in infamy.

As LL recalls, he was being far too aggressive with Foxx while filming a scene, which got under the skin of the actor. Low and behold, LL’s roughness is what eventually sparked a retaliation. In an interview, LL would give a detailed breakdown of what took place between the two.

LL revealed, “This wasn’t scripted. I’ma keep it 100 with you. You want me to keep it 100; I’ma keep it 100. He punched me in my face. So, I look at him after he punched me in my face. I said ‘Why’d you do that?’…He said ‘Look,’ and he was turned to the side [in a fighting stance]. He had his helmet on, and he was turned to the side. He said, ‘I told you before. Don’t put your hands on me. Period!’”

“So…Yo, when he said that, my left hand grabbed the face mask and, as I was pulling his helmet off, my right hand was punching his chin. This was like ‘POW!’ And, then, he was laying there, and I though he was faking ’cause he was [in a sleeping position]. I thought he was faking,” he continued.

Eventually, the cops got involved and the pair were separated. Foxx wound up filing a police report after the incident, which makes this story even wilder.

The Film Becomes A Hit

Cooler heads would eventually prevail, and filming would continue for Any Given Sunday. We have to imagine that things were initially tense on set after what took place, but everyone involved were professionals, and they put it behind them so that the production of the movie could continue.

Despite this negative aura surrounding the movie, Any Given Sunday went on to become a hit. Released back in 1999, the movie went on to gross over $100 million at the box office, making it a success for all involved. The movie, to be fair, had a talented cast with other performers like Al Pacino, Cameron Diaz, and Dennis Quaid, but as we have seen in the past, a stellar cast is no guarantee for success.

After the movie rocked the box office, questions began to arise about LL and Foxx and whether or not the two would ever patch things up. This easily could have turned into a mega beef that lasted a lifetime, as both guys were successful in music and could have kept things going if they wanted to.

Where They Stand Now

Instead of keeping their beef alive by fanning the flames, LL Cool J and Jamie Foxx would put things behind them.

When speaking with MTV, Foxx revealed that “...We looked at each other like, ‘Why we wasting all this time? Let’s get together and do some music, do some movies.’… So we started talking about that, did a couple of records together. When you’re grown, you don’t really have time for all that [beefing]. When you’re young, it’s cool to have your emotions on your chest. But we’re grown now.”

As we mentioned earlier, both men have been successful in music, and while acting is the thing that drove a wedge between them, ultimately, it was music that brought them closer than ever. Since the incident, both men have continued on with their careers, each finding additional success in acting and in music. They have both thrived for years now and have cemented individual legacies in the business.
