Dancing With The Stars contestant Jojo Siwa has recently come under fire for saying she relates to Britney Spears’ hardships.

The night of October 4 saw the Dancing With The Stars contestants pay tribute to global pop icon Britney Spears in the show’s "Britney Night". Amongst dazzling costumes and impressive routines, one contestant, in particular, felt their connection to the night’s theme ran a little deeper than the dance moves performed.

During a pre-recorded video shown prior to her routine of "Baby One More Time", Dance Moms star, Jojo Siwa opened up on how she felt towards Spears. Siwa highlighted how she felt she could resonate with the pop sensation. She compared herself to Spears as both made their mark in the industry at a young age.

Whilst recalling her experiences with childhood stardom, Siwa stated, “I think I've had a really great support system around me, but being a child star is hard. I was always homeschooled, and so I never had a person bullying, like it wasn't a thing for me.”

She added, “One night, I went to a Halloween theme park. People were shouting at me, 'JoJo Siwa, f*** you.' No 14-year-old wants to hear that. Every time that I go through something, it reminds me of the other side, of what's good."

Following the performance, Siwa and dance partner Jenna Johnson sat down with Hollywood Acess for an interview on their choreography.

During the interview, Siwa went into further detail about the ways in which she felt she could relate to Spears. Siwa stated that only someone who had been a child star could understand the struggles that came with the title. She stated, “You understand the struggles, you understand what you give up, you understand what you gain.”

Siwa rounded off the statement by claiming that if she was given the chance to sit down and “have a conversation” with Spears, the two would “become best friends in an instant.”

In the wake of the claims made by Siwa, many rushed to Twitter to troll the dancer as they believed that no part of Siwa could understand the struggles that Spears had endured. They claimed that Siwa had to be “stopped”.

One stated, “All these people comparing themselves with Britney’s situation need to stop. Did this girl/woman have her money controlled by others? Is her ENTIRE family making bank from her? Does she have others fully in control of her reproductive parts? NO, NO, AND NO.”

Others branded Siwa “insensitive” for her claims as they came following Spears' recent success in removing her father Jamie Spears as her conservator.
