Farrah Fawcett was an icon in her heyday. The actress was famous for her role in Charlie's Angels, her illustrious modeling career, and countless film projects and series that catapulted her to great heights. Farrah's most famous relationship was with Ryan O'Neal, a self-proclaimed womanizer who admitted he didn't think he was supposed to be a father.

But he was; Ryan O'Neal fathered Farrah's son Redmond James Fawcett O'Neal in 1985. O'Neal already had three children by the time he started dating Farrah, so Redmond has three half-siblings; Tatum, Griffin, and Patrick. Unfortunately for Redmond, his life wasn't easy growing up, and he's had many of the same struggles his family — especially his father — had.

Updated October 2023: Redmond O'Neal has led a troubled life. His addiction to alcohol and illicit substances, in conjunction with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and anti-social personality disorder had not only landed Redmond in jail several times but in a mental health facility for the last several years.

Despite the fact his father, Ryan O'Neal promised Farrah Fawcett on her deathbed that he would take care of Redmond, Ryan has been unable to do so. The relationship between the father and son is so broken that Redmond refuses to see Ryan while receiving treatment for his mental health conditions.

Despite being given $4.5 million after Farrah died, Redmond has lost almost all of the wealth that was left via trust to him, now only having a reported net worth of $10,000.

Redmond, now 35, apparently is not employed, but he used to be a voice actor, albeit not at the same level of success as other stars. Some of his work can be found in movies like The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars and Johnny Bravo.

It hasn't been the smoothest sailing for Redmond lately, though. His last IMDb-credited project was more than ten years ago, and he's been in trouble with the law recently.

Redmond spent some time in jail in 2018 for an apparent fight with a handful of other men. Before that, he was arrested and accused of robbing a convenience store. And before that, he was wanted for a "week-long crime spree."

After a court appearance for many of those issues, and facing some serious charges, O'Neal was deemed "incompetent."

He was then transferred to a hospital where he was set to receive mental health care.

When Farrah Fawcett passed in 2009, she left Redmond a $4.5M trust, though there were strict conditions involved with its use. The parameters of the trust include stipulations that Redmond could only access the interest from the account, which amounted to about $300K per year (before taxes).

The trustee, who is Farrah's friend Richard Francis (a producer), has control over how the interest is distributed, whether monthly or yearly.

But another stipulation said Redmond could only use the principal balance for healthcare; he couldn't use the principal for legal defense or bail with police-related issues.

Redmond reportedly couldn't meet the $50,000 bail amount upon his arrest in 2018. At that time, multiple sources suggested his net worth amounted to about $10,000.

Since O'Neal's trial in 2019, the one in which he was deemed incompetent, the troubled former actor has apparently not been freed.

The Sun last stated that Redmond "has allegedly been diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and antisocial personality disorder" following his evaluation in court.
