When you look at Tracee Ellis Ross, it's hard to deny she's Diana Ross' daughter because they could be twins. But when you see Ross next to her father, Robert Ellis Silberstein, they could be twins too. There's no mistaking that she is the perfect combination of her parents.

With how famous her parents are, Ross has never lived in their shadow. She has had her own successful career in showbiz and has earned her $16 million net worth.

Ross might have a great relationship with her mother, but what's her relationship with Silberstein? Just because her parent's marriage wasn't successful, doesn't mean that her relationship with her dad fell away.

It's rare to see them together, sure, but here's what their relationship is truly like.

Silberstein Is A Family Man

When Silberstein and Diana Ross met, she was trying to decide on a gift for her then-partner, Motown founder, Berry Gordy. She spotted him in the store and approached him to ask his opinion on gift ideas.

What she found in Silberstein was "a rare thing, a gentleman who is young, alive and very handsome—all the fantasy things you think of in a husband."

The Supremes singer was desperate to have a family, but her relationship with Gordy wasn't working and she contemplated adopting a baby and raising it as a single mother. But that all changed when she started seeing Silberstein.

It was after he bought them matching pairs of red PJs that they knew they were meant for one another so they married in 1971.

When they got married, Diana was two months pregnant with her daughter Rhonda, who was biologically Gordy's. But when she gave birth, Silberstein adopted her as his own. Rhonda actually grew up thinking he was her father until she turned 13.

A year later, they had Tracee and then their daughter Chudney in 1975. The family had a happy, quiet life living in a modern styled mansion until 1977 when Diana and Silberstein split.

Ross' parents remained amicable, however. At the time, Silberstein told People that his relationship with Diana after their divorce was "almost too good to believe, like brother and sister."

Ross' relationship didn't end with her father though.

Ross Says She's Very Much Her Father's Daughter

When Silberstein dropped his name and became just Robert Ellis, so did Ross. She explained this change was the result of being just as much her father's girl as her mother's.

Speaking to W Magazine she said, "My father’s name is Robert Ellis Silberstein, and he dropped Silberstein, we all dropped Silberstein. I really felt strongly that I wanted my father’s name in my name, because everyone knows I’m my mom’s daughter, but I’m also very much my dad’s daughter. And I wanted him, when my name hit a screen, to know that I was also part of him. And so Tracee Ellis Ross it is."

People might always compare her to her mother, but there are a lot of similarities between father and daughter. Ross says she gets her impeccable taste not just from her mom but her dad too, and admits that when she talks to her dad, her "Jewish self," or her Jewish New York accent comes out.

"When I was on Girlfriends, they had to edit around my oy‘s," she told Larry King.

Ross also claims she gets her humor from her dad.

Talking to Refinery29, she explained, "My dad is hilarious. I don’t know if I got it genetically, but his perspective and point of view on life and ability to laugh at himself and laugh at life and see the humor in life is something that I love about him. And that I’m very grateful I got that."

They Love Posting About Each Other

Like most families around the world, the Ross family likes to post pictures on social media of their times together.

This past Father's Day, Ross posted a hilarious video of her and her father food shopping of all things. At the end of the video, the pair smile their identical smiles at the camera.

A few weeks ago, Ross also posted a photo of the pair smiling for the camera. She wrote, "Open your eyes, Dad! And I miss you! Looking forward to hanging out soon."

Just a couple of days ago, Ross posted a throwback photo of them together for Silberstein's birthday. This time she wrote, "Happy 50th Anniversary of your 25th Birthday Dad 😂 I know you didn’t want me to tell everyone that but you are the most vibrant and joyful human I know and I love being your daughter. I love you soooo much and I can’t wait to hug you and laugh with you in person as soon as it’s safe."

Silberstein also posts a lot of photos of himself with Ross out and about, and even posts things about her show Black-ish, in support.

Long story short, Ross loves her parents equally. While she got most of her showbiz skills from her mother, she got her humor, personality, and that prize-winning smile from her father.
