Britney Spears' Full Biography
Britney Spears is a name that needs no introduction. With hit albums like "Oops, I Did It Again" and "Baby, One More Time", she has made her mark as the best-selling teenage artist of all time. Her music has been beloved by millions around the world and continues to inspire new generations even today.
Early Life/Education
Having been born (12/2/81) and raised in Kentwood, Louisiana, Britney Jean Spears started singing and dancing as early as two years old and soon participated in talent contests. However, when she was eight years old, she tried out for The All New Mickey Mouse Club by Disney but was rejected due to her young age.
Her talent impressed the producers, who urged her to find an agent in New York City. She spent her summers studying at the Professional Performing Arts School and even produced television commercials. Finally, in 1991, she landed a role in an Off-Broadway play named Ruthless.
After two years, Spears became a part of The All New Mickey Mouse Club's team of Mouseketeers alongside famous musicians such as Justin Timberlake, who she would later date, and Christina Aguilera.
Career
In 1997, at the age of 17, Britney signed with Jive Records, and in 1999 and 2000, she released her first two albums, "...Baby One More Time" and "Oops!... I Did It Again." Her second album quickly became the fastest-selling female artist album in American history, setting a record that was kept for more than a decade.
After two years, Britney released another album that was more mature and shared her name. Following this, she starred in the 2002 movie Crossroads. Never skipping a beat, she went on to release her fourth studio album, "In the Zone". At that point, Spears took a break, and her loyal fans wouldn't see another album until 2007, when she released quite possibly her best album ever, "Blackout".
Britney Spears' album Circus, released in 2008, marked her first Billboard number-one single since her debut with "Womanizer". In 2011, Femme Fatale became her most dance-oriented album yet. Her 2013 release, Britney Jean, was said to be highly personal but received criticism for using too many synthesized effects that obscured her voice.
However, with Glory in 2016, Spears was able to recapture the essence of her earlier work and was praised for it. Glory showcased a more mature and introspective side of Spears with songs like "Man on the Moon" and "Just Luv Me". The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart, making it her highest-charting album in nearly a decade.
Britney Spears has also showcased her talents as a judge on The X Factor back in 2012 and even had a successful Las Vegas residency show titled Britney: Piece of Me at Planet Hollywood from 2013 to 2017.
Business Ventures
Britney has had many endorsements, like Pepsi, Skechers, and Polaroid. She also made a perfume with Elizabeth Arden that made her millions, and has a glasses line called Shades of Brittney.
Personal Life
Britney Spears has had some very high profile relationships, as well as controversial one’s.
Justin Timberlake was the first big time relationship for Spears. Many saw them getting married one day, but he is happily married to Jessica Beil now. The two were together from 1998-2002.
In 2022 Britney got married to Jason Alexander, but only for a moment. Their marriage was broken off just 55 hours after saying, “I do”.
Britney Spears and Kevin Federline were together from 2004 to 2007. Federline started as her dancer and later became the father of their two children.
Unfortunately, Britney's life during this time period coincided with a downward trend in her musical career that included several mental breakdowns. Following their divorce, Britney had a highly publicized meltdown that left a lasting impact on her image.
Adnan Ghalib, Jason Trawick, David Lucado, and Charlie Ebersol also all dated Britney Spears.
Currently, though, Britney is married, for a third time, to Sam Asghari. The couple have been together since 2016.
Net Worth
In 2018 Britney Spears was worth $215 million. Today she is worth $70 million. This has to do with her conservatorship.
Controversy
The most noteworthy part of Britney Spears life recently has been the conservatorship issue.
If an individual is suffering from dementia or other mental disorders resulting in their inability to make autonomous decisions, they may receive a conservatorship from a court of law.
Spears' conservatorship was split into two parts - one for her finances and the other for her personal life.
In 2019, Jamie Spears resigned from his position as the personal conservator for both areas due to health issues. Subsequently, a court appointed a care provider to take over his daughter's personal conservatorship. Finally, in September 2021, an accountant assumed responsibility for Britney Spears' monetary assets, taking over from Mr. Spears' previous role as her conservator.
Britney Spears' life took a turn for the worse following her divorce from Kevin Federline in 2007. The loss of custody of their two children seemed to have taken a toll on the singer's mental health, resulting in erratic behavior.
This caused concern among the public, as she was involved in incidents such as shaving her head and hitting a photographer's car with an umbrella. She was later admitted to the hospital twice under temporary psychiatric assessments, including after an incident where she refused to surrender her sons during a standoff with the police.
Britney Spears' conservatorship was established as a temporary measure and later made permanent. Her father's lawyers defended the conservatorship in court filings, stating it was necessary to protect Britney from physical, emotional, mental and financial distress.
However, the conservatorship has been heavily criticized by Britney's fans and some celebrities, who argue that it strips her of her basic human rights. The #FreeBritney movement has gained momentum in recent years, with many calling for an end to the conservatorship and for Britney to regain control of her life.
