"We’re excited to hear Taylor’s version of how absorbing influences from cinema led to her creating 'All Too Well: The Short Film,' which we’ll present in its original 35mm form for the first time at TIFF."

The short film was written and directed by Swift, which got its inspiration from the song of the same name. "All Too Well" originally appeared on Swift's fourth studio album, "Red," before a ten-minute version appeared on the re-recorded album, "Red (Taylor's Version)." The short film stars Sadie Sink from Stranger Things and Dylan O’Brien from The Outfit. Swift produced the film with Saul Germaine of Saul Projects. PolyGram Entertainment, Republic Records and Universal Pictures distributed the film, which premiered on YouTube in November 2021. Swift previously held a special screening of the film at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival.

Swift won three awards for "All Too Well: The Short Film" at this year's MTV Video Music Awards. The film won Best Longform Video, Best Direction, and the night's highest honor, Video of the Year.

"I’m so honored to have been recognized alongside such amazing artists and directors in this category," she said during her acceptance speech. "I just want to say I’m so heartened by the fact that for the first time in VMA history four of the directors nominated in the Video of the Year category are women."

She went on to thank her fans for their support.

"You guys, I’m just so proud of what we made and I know with every second of this moment that we wouldn’t have been able to make this short film if it weren’t for you the fans. I wouldn’t be able to re-record my albums if it weren’t for you, you emboldened me to do that."
