Said to be worth more than $50 million, we can clearly say Jonah Hill is enjoying a successful career. However, the praise came with a lot of major risks. Unlike other actors, Hill experienced success at a young age, and in truth, he was offered huge roles early on, certain roles to work alongside iconic directors that nobody would say no to, including Steve Spielberg.

Hill wanted to stay true to his vision and ultimately, he was also nudged by others to turn down a certain project.

He might've been sweating a bit, given that the film grossed over $700 million and would only add to its success in the years that followed, with multiple sequels - it became a massive franchise. Sure, he missed out, but it didn't hurt his career one bit.

We'll take a look at how his career played when he refused the role and what he did instead, which would also lead to big success. Looking at his resume, although it might be hard to believe, but he made the right call.

Success Came Quickly

Unlike lots of other actors in Hollywood, success came quickly for Jonah Hill, who decided to pursue the craft after dropping out of college and betting on his passion.

In terms of a professional standpoint, things worked out. At a young age, just barely scratching the surface, he was appearing in films like 'The 40-Year-Old Virgin', 'Accepted', 'Click', and 'Knocked Up'.

His biggest break in the lead spot would come in the film 'Superbad', it was at that point that Hill knew things were changing. He wanted a role behind the scenes but gigs kept turning up on-screen, like SNL. “Right after Superbad, I took a writing job on Brüno [with Sacha Baron Cohen]. I was 23, and they asked me to host SNL for the first time. And I didn’t want to leave the writers room,” Hill said.

“I was like, ‘Guys, I don’t know what to do.’ It was my first job working for Sacha. And Sacha was like, ‘Dude, you should go host SNL.’ To me, having a writing job for Sacha Baron Cohen was as rad as hosting SNL. I was a kid. I had probably too much power for a young person, and too much autonomy, and not enough life skills.”

This was just the start as Hill battled with some huge decisions throughout his career. One included saying no to a franchise worth billions.

Seth Rogen Told Him To Turn Down 'Transformers'

Just a couple of years prior to 'Superbad', Jonah Hill could've taken his career in a different direction. The Michael Bay action, sci-fi film came calling, starring the likes of Megan Fox, Shia LaBeouf, and Mark Wahlberg.

The initial film soared at the box office, bringing in over $700 million. The films that followed would be just as impressive.

Despite the huge success, Hill was advised to pass on the project, particularly by Seth Rogen, "I can see if Steven Spielberg's calling you, asking you to do something, how that's hard to turn down," but Rogen ultimately concluded: "You want to make a movie about fightin' robots? Make your own movie about fightin' robots. You can do that. That's on the table now."

Hill was like-minded to Rogen's statement, he also admitted to not being ready for such a role back then, "I just think like I have to prove myself more in what I'm doing now, making comedies and stuff before I do the big action movie or something, you know? I'm not proven yet."

Although the numbers the film put up are immense, it was the right call for his career. He would make the jump when the time was right.

It Did Not Affect His Career

Although it was a bold decision, it all worked out just fine.

Hill gained a slew of experience after turning the project, including a multi-film deal of his own, on his own terms, with '21 Jump Street'. In addition, he made the jump to serious films when it was time, notably starting with 'Moneyball' alongside Brad Pitt.

Just a few years later, he received Oscar-buzz for his role alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in 'The Wolf of Wall Street'.

It is fair to say that his patience worked out quite well in his favor and in addition, he was able to do some work behind the camera as well.
