This summer's Spider-Man: Far From Home may only be Tom Holland's second solo film as the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler, but thanks to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's stints as Peter Parker and Holland's three other Marvel Cinematic Universe appearances, it feels like we know Spidey pretty well by now.

Even casual Marvel fans know that Spider-Man can stick to walls, swing around the buildings of New York City, throw some serious punches and detect threats with his spider sense, but the web-slinger actually has a lot more weapons in his arsenal than we've seen on the big screen over the past two decades.

Peter Parker may just seem like a mild-mannered, awkward nerd with a great sense of humor at times, but he's one of the most powerful superheroes on the entire planet. He can hold his own against some of Marvel's most dangerous foes, but unfortunately, that doesn't quite mean he's without his share of secret weaknesses.

20 POWER HE NEVER USES: COMMUNICATION WITH SPIDERS

Since Ant-Man can talk to ants and Falcon can communicate with his falcon Redwing, Spider-Man fans have always wondered why Peter Parker doesn't speak to spiders. Well, Doctor Strange #390 gave us our answer.

The Sorcerer Supreme briefly gave Spidey the ability to carry a conversation with a spider, but Peter learned that his namesake wasn't particularly impressed with him because he didn't live in a web or eat his enemies.

Peter's clone Kaine does have the ability to summon and control spiders and Peter briefly had it after "The Other" storyline, but it's not a particularly fan-favorite power and doesn't show up much in the comics.

19 SURPRISE WEAKNESS: THE COMMON COLD

Peter Parker has been able to land a punch on an Infinity Gauntlet-wielding Thanos and once even punched Hulk all the way into space, but with great power comes... some surprising vulnerabilities. Peter can survive fights with just about any supervillain, but the common cold affects him as much as it does the rest of us!

Spidey has a stronger immune system and heals faster than regular humans, but when he comes down with a cold, the fever and other frustrating symptoms can mess up his spider senses and slow down his reaction speed. Since he's not one to just take a sick day when his city—or the world—needs him, Peter will fight regardless of his illness and the results aren't always good.

18 POWER HE NEVER USES: FLIGHT

Spider-Man's primary means of travel is definitely web-slinging from building to building, but that's not his only way of getting around in a hurry. And no, we're not talking about the ridiculous Spider-Buggy he briefly drove in the comics.

Peter can make himself web wings which allow him to soar in a manner similar to that of skydiver with a wingsuit. Sony's first five Spider-Man films didn't show off this ingenious creation, but the MCU Spidey quickly figured out how to master his gliding talent.

17 SURPRISE WEAKNESS: RELIANT ON TALL STRUCTURES FOR TRAVEL

There's definitely a reason Stan Lee chose to place Spider-Man in New York, and it's not just because the city seems to be the favorite target of Marvel's supervillains. It also happens to be the home to hundreds of skyscrapers and other tall buildings Peter can swing around on, allowing him to be incredibly mobile in battle.

Unfortunately, when Spidey finds himself in the middle of Central Park or some other location without a tall structure he can shoot a web at, he loses one of his greatest weapons. If his enemies want to lure him into a trap he won't be able to easily escape, they just have to find a spot that'll remove web travel from Spider-Man's arsenal.

16 POWER HE NEVER USES: GENIUS-LEVEL INTELLECT

The live-action Spider-Man films have all done a decent job showcasing Peter Parker's proficiency in science and technology, but only comic book readers have really gotten the chance to see just how smart he is. He's actually a genius in a number of scientific disciplines and has had his intelligence acknowledged by some of the smartest men in the entire Marvel world.

For whatever reason, Peter just chooses not to profit off of his genius in the same way heroes like Reed Richards and Tony Stark have and has spent more time over the years working as a photographer for the Daily Bugle than in a lab.

15 SURPRISE WEAKNESS: ANTI-VENOM'S HEALING POWERS

Venom and Carnage are definitely two of Spider-Man's most well-known and frightening adversaries, but a different symbiotic monster actually poses more of a threat to the beloved wall-crawler.

When the leftover symbiote in Eddie Brock's body mixed with his white blood cells and turned him into Anti-Venom, he set out trying to cleanse the world of symbiotes. He tried helping Spider-Man remove any leftover symbiote from his system, but in doing so, he also nearly "cured" Spidey of the radiation which grants him his powers. Peter luckily stopped him in time, but whenever Anti-Venom is nearby, his powers temporarily disappear.

14 POWER HE NEVER USES: CAN GROW ADDITIONAL ARMS

In the controversial and fairly unpopular The Other storyline, Spider-Man went through all sorts of bizarre changes which made him significantly more like his namesake. Some of his new spider-like abilities actually helped him become a more effective superhero, but the four extra arms he grew definitely made it hard for him to walk around town as Peter Parker.

Each of his new hands shared his typical ability to stick onto walls and the additional fists helped Spidey pack a few more punches, but fans (and Peter) were relieved when Marvel decided to get rid of them.

13 SURPRISE WEAKNESS: LACK OF INCOME

When Doctor Octopus briefly occupied Peter Parker's body in Superior Spider-Man, Otto started Parker Industries and used his genius and inventions to become a multi-millionaire. Peter is just as smart as Doc Ock and could have done something like this on his own, but he's always settled into low-paying jobs.

New York City is one of the most expensive places to live in the whole country, and Peter's struggle to make ends meet has definitely complicated his life. In addition to having to pay for basic needs like food and rent, Spidey also has to pay for web fluid supplies and costume fixes. Luckily, he has friends like Tony Stark who can bail him out of financial holes every now and then.

12 POWER HE NEVER USES: ENHANCED SPEED

We all know that Spider-Man is very agile and acrobatic, but few fans realize just how fast the web-slinger can be. In the comics, he's proven capable of swinging from skyscraper to skyscraper for two miles in only five seconds. That's not quite as fast as Superman or Quicksilver, but it definitely makes him the favorite in a race against any non-speedster.

Spidey's speed helps him avoid punches and dodge bullets, and when it's combined with his spider-sense, he can be borderline untouchable. In Civil War, he was able to take out a team of S.W.A.T. officers without them even being able to make out who he was.

11 SURPRISE WEAKNESS: HIS LOVE FOR AUNT MAY

Heroes always claim that love gives them an advantage over their most nefarious adversaries, but villains repeatedly prove that love can be used against them. By targeting those that Peter Parker cares about, Spider-Man's enemies are able to put him in compromising positions.

When the Kingpin ordered a hit which led to the termination of Aunt May, Peter actually made a deal with the devil Mephisto to bring her back. The deal included some devastatingly negative terms—his marriage to Mary Jane was completely undone, and nearly everyone who knew that Peter was Spider-Man had their memories of his secret identity erased.

10 POWER HE NEVER USES: ACCELERATED HEALING

When comic book fans think about accelerated healing factors, heroes like Wolverine and Deadpool are typically the first to come to mind. Spider-Man's ability to recover from serious wounds may not be as instant as theirs, but he's survived injuries which would have been fatal to countless other notable superheroes or supervillains.

In Amazing Spider-Man #700.4, Peter was burned so badly that he was completely unrecognizable, but after a good night's sleep, he woke up fully recovered and ready to get back on the streets as Spider-Man.

9 SURPRISE WEAKNESS: STRESS OR MENTAL EXHAUSTION

Peter Parker doesn't typically have any difficulty using his powers to their full potential, but stress and exhaustion can actually affect him as strongly as they affect the rest of us. When he's got too much on his mind or is feeling unsure about his worth as a superhero or as Peter Parker, Spidey can lose control of his abilities and find himself seriously underpowered and vulnerable.

Many viewers rolled their eyes when Tobey Maguire briefly lost his enhanced gifts in Spider-Man 2 upon disappointing his friends and family, but the comics have actually supported that possibility.

8 POWER HE NEVER USES: ABLE TO TALK TO HORSES

In this year's War of The Realms: The Land of Giants, several of Earth's greatest heroes teamed up to help Thor and were given a variety of Asgardian weapons and relics in their quest. Wolverine gave Spider-Man the silliest-looking helmet he could find as a prank, but the web-slinger later found out that it was magical and gifted him with the ability to speak to his horse.

Peter initially named his flying steed "Buttercup," but after the battle, he was shocked to discover that he could communicate with the horse and that her name was actually Queen Arctorius. Thankfully, the former leader of the winged horses once ridden by Odin's Valkyrie didn't mind the cutesy nickname Spidey had bestowed upon her.

7 SURPRISE WEAKNESS: SPIDER-SENSE DOESN'T WORK AGAINST SYMBIOTES

Spider-Man's strength, speed and web-shooting skills definitely do a lot to help him in battle, but his most useful gift is probably his spider-sense. He can detect danger before it arrives, and thanks to his incredible agility, he can use his superhuman warning system to avoid both ranged and melee attacks.

Unfortunately, his greatest asset doesn't work against some of his greatest foes. Venom and his symbiotic offspring like Carnage and Scream don't trigger Peter's spider-sense, so he finds himself fighting blind whenever he faces them.

6 POWER HE NEVER USES: RAZOR-SHARP STINGERS

Among the many new powers given to Spider-Man in The Other storyline were a pair of retractable stingers located below his wrists. These stingers were razor sharp and coated in a dangerous venom which could instantly paralyze his enemies, and they could actually be launched as projectiles and instantly regrown.

Peter was hesitate to use these stingers as the offensive weapons they could have been, and didn't particularly miss them when the conclusion of the storyline took them away.

5 SURPRISE WEAKNESS: DOCTOR OCTOPUS' MIND TRICKS

Doctor Octopus might look like one of Spider-Man's more ridiculous and whimsical villains, but Otto's high IQ has helped him best his heroic adversary on several occasions. He once erased Spidey's mind and convinced him that they were criminal allies, and when his body started falling apart from illness, Doc Ock actually created a device which allowed him to swap minds with the wall-crawler.

Peter found himself in Octavius' failing body, while Otto was able to use Peter's youthful, super-powered body to become a "Superior" Spider-Man. Luckily, a fragment of Peter's consciousness remained in his body and after several months, he was able to regain control of it.

4 POWER HE NEVER USES: INCREASED METABOLISM

When Peter Parker was first bitten by a radioactive spider, he developed an extraordinarily fast metabolism. This newfound gift was understandably overshadowed by the development of powers like wall-crawling and super strength, but it's come in handy on countless occasions.

Peter has been able to quickly burn off poisons and toxins, and when Kraven the Hunter shot him full of tranquilizers and buried him in Kraven's Last Hunt, he was able to recover and dig his way out of his premature grave.

Those are the most practical applications of this power, but it can't be ignored that Spidey's enhanced metabolism also lets him consume ridiculous amounts of pizza without having to worry about gaining too much weight.

3 SURPRISE WEAKNESS: LIMITED WEB FLUID

Spider-Man can certainly hold his own against nearly anyone in hand-to-hand combat, but he typically prefers to use his webs as weapons over resorting to using his exceptionally powerful fists. Unfortunately, web fluid is incredibly expensive, and even when he can afford to make as much as he needs, he only has access to as much fluid as the web cartridges he has on hand can carry.

There have been several occasions where Spidey found himself completely out of web fluid in the middle of a major battle. Since he's become fairly reliant on his ability to swing around the city and tie up his foes with his webs, this can seriously affect his confidence and proficiency in a fight.

2 POWER HE NEVER USES: ORGANIC WEBBING

One of the most controversial aspects of the original Spider-Man trilogy was Sony's decision to give Peter Parker the ability to create organic webs. We never saw Tobey Maguire experiment with making his own web-shooters, because he was able to make webs with a simple flick of his wrist.

Spider-Man can't typically do that, but in The Spectacular Spider-Man: Disassembled,  Peter was bitten by the Queen and actually developed the ability to produce organic webbing through spinnerets in his forearms.

1 SURPRISE WEAKNESS: DEADPOOL

One of the many reasons comic book fans rejoiced when Disney bought 20th Century Fox was the newfound possibility for Deadpool and Spider-Man to interact on the big screen for the first time. Wade Wilson is one of Spidey's biggest fans, and in the Spider-Man/Deadpool comic line, we got to see what would happen if the two comedic heroes actually teamed up.

The Merc With a Mouth developed a better conscience by working with his do-gooder idol, but Spider-Man didn't quite benefit from their partnership. In fact, his time with the mercenary actually brought out some darkness inside of Spidey, and he started questioning whether or not Wade was right about simply terminating his enemies.

Deadpool frequently lands himself and his partner in sticky situations, and Spidey struggles as much to control Wade as he does fighting the foes they team up to defeat.
