15 Celebrity Couples Who Quietly Called It Quits

We're used to celebrity break outs being a huge dramatic affair, splashed on tabloids of every grocery store check out area. Often we hear the nastier sides of rumours and truths: restraining orders, affairs, twitter savagery that makes each side come out looking uglier than they did before. However, there are some celebrities that keep it classy, who prefer to keep their lives as hidden as possible from the public eye—despite their job that requires them to put on a pretty dress or suit and smile for the cameras. Here are 15 couples that quietly called it quits, so quietly that fans and the media made a bigger splash out of their separation more than the couple did—or for some, did it so skillfully quiet, that fans didn't find out until a few months later.

15 Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom

Via: limonchello.info

This couple doesn't surprise us with how secretive and quiet they were surrounding their breakup, considering it took five months between first rumour of them actually being a couple to being Instagram official back in May 2016. Just like their beginning, there wasn't a public statement around their breakup until four months later and then Orlando Bloom waited another five weeks before affirming with Elle UK that he and Perry were still friends and acting very grown up around the whole thing.

So despite trying, they couldn't make the long distance relationship thing work. We're not surprised, but we tip our hat to them for being mature about the whole thing, even though most of us probably didn't even know they had been dating officially (though may have been longer) for ten months.

14 Robert Pattison and FKA Twigs

Via: eonline.com

Pattinson is so private about his life, there probably are still some out there who thought he has been single since his Kristen Stewart days (news update: he hasn't been). Pattinson, who the cool people know as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the, urm, rest know him as Edward Cullen in the Twilight series, started dating the English singer FKA Twigs in September 2014, got engaged nearly seven months after, but things came to an end in October 2017. However, there are sources that say they broke up months before the news broke out. Which, wouldn't be so surprising to hear since the last time they were publicly seen together had been back in May.

These two are so silent to the press, there has yet to be a public statement or even a twitter post about it. Silent as the grave, so to speak. (Too soon Potter fans?).

13 Fergie and Josh Duhamel

Here's another case of a couple waiting months before giving the public a heads up that we can no longer say #couplegoals when referring to them. Fergie and Josh let the world know they had separated in September of this year, but that they had waited to let people know so they could have the privacy to figure things out together and for their adorable son Axl. They had been together for thirteen years together, and we're happy to hear they kept things classy, even though our hearts are heartbroken that things didn't work out for the actor and singer.

We're guessing that Fergie allowed herself a few big girl tears during this major stage of her life. As for us, we definitely were sad hearing this Fergalicious couple is saying goodbye, but life goes on.

12 Laurence Fishburne and Gina Torres

There's something that just tugs at heartstrings when we discovered that a Hollywood couple calls it quits after being married for the majority of the 21st century. Gina Torres and Laurence Fishburne separated after fourteen years of marriage, and managed to keep it under-wraps for close to a year before disclosing it to the public. Now that's called quietly calling it quits. The Firefly warrior Torres and Matrix Master Fishburne ended things romantically, but say they are still in this together even though they aren't going to be side by side working on things anymore.

It's not tears in our eyes, our eyeballs are just sweating. We applaud them for ending things amicably and still focusing on the positive aspects of each other. And who knows what the future holds for the two of them.

11 Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr

Via: thesun.com

Granted, this news is old, like 2013 old, but we wanted to remind the world of Orlando Bloom's skills of flying under the radar. Perry wasn't the first time that Bloom ended things and failed to mention it to the world until a few months later. When the Lord of the Rings actor and Kerr separated, they formalized the separation process before letting the press know. Bloom is aware of his ability to keep his life relatively private, and uses it to his advantage when dealing with family matters that are best not examined under the lens of the press.

Even if Bloom's relationships don't work well, at least he knows he is able to mourn them privately, because he sure isn't going to allow the paparazzi to be the ones to give him a shoulder to cry on.

10 Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber

Some couples were so skilled at being private with their lives, you didn't even know they were a couple until things have ended. Naomi Watts, from the Divergent Series, and Liev Schreiber, action star and voice of Storm King in the My Little Pony Movie, separated last year after being together for eleven years. Except for a joint public statement back in September 2016, they remained quiet about their separation beyond that until having interviews months later.

There's something to admire about people who don't take an opportunity to make passive aggressive statements, but instead to focus on the positive life. Though she admitted she has her good days and bad days, Watts applauded Schreiber's parenting skills and mentions they are working together to be the best parents to their two sons.

9 Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor

This one hits right in the childhood. If you grew up quoting Zoolander, you know the heartbreak we're feeling that these ridiculously good-looking individuals aren't a couple anymore. After an impressive 17 years of marriage and five movies together, Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor gave a joint public statement announcing their separation back in May, and have kept silent regarding it since then. And surprisingly, except for the news outbreak of their separation, the media seemed to have respect their request for privacy, since there was very little speculation regarding the separation beyond Stiller is too busy with his career and Taylor was focused on being a mom.

Looks like Stiller is suffering from a lot more than a black lung, Pop, but we wouldn't know with how silently he's suffering.

8 Robert Valletta and Scheana Marie Shay

Via: usweekly.com

Who? Yes, you might be aware of Scheana Marie Shay, who was on a couple of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills episodes, as one of the women Brandi Glanville sat down with who had an affair with her ex husband Eddie Cibrian. Or you might know her from her current role in Vanderpump Rules. Robert Valletta, a C-list-ish actor that appeared on a couple of episodes of Ugly Betty who is also supermodel Amber Valletta's brother.

Him and Scheana Shay broke up a few months ago, but how people found out was through an Instagram comment. He responded to a comment on one of his pictures that was asking where his girlfriend was. In a now deleted comment he responded, "Sadly we broke up, we are still amazing friends and we adore each other. We will see what happens." Cool fam, thanks for letting us know.

7 Alex Rodriguez and Anne Wojcicki

Those who pay attention to baseball know Alex Rodriguez, the former Yankees player, or as he's been known for the last couple of months, J-Lo's new boo. Earlier this year, though, we discovered he was another person who kept his breakups on the down low, having discovered his break up with Anne Wojcicki, CEO of 23andMe, a few months after they had already split.

Their breakup seemed mutual, and people around them seemed to think that maybe their many differences may have been what broke them up. Or, as Anne's mom insinuated, A-Rod didn't have the intelligence level to keep up with the Anne and her family. Ouch, we know that jocks and nerds having relationships is shocking on a High School Musical level, but this is one mom who thinks her daughter should stick to the status quo.

6 Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama

Via: usweekly.com

Back in 2016, Demi Lovato, Disney start and Wilmer Valderrama couldn't get away with breaking up as quietly as some of these other couples, especially considering how upfront and vocal Demi's been about her life, but they managed to keep things under their control by posting a mutual Instagram post about their relationship status going from significant other of six years to best friends. And then it wasn't for another four months before Demi Lovato spoke about it in an interview. That's, like, 2.3 years in dog years.

But we don't think we realized how adorable and strong their relationship was until Demi Lovato reflected back on it in her Simply Complicated Documentary that came out in October of this year. Makes us want to find someone to "tell me you love me".

5 Evan Rachel Wood and Zach Villa

Via: entertainmenttonight.com

If it wasn't for sources telling the media, we would have no frickin' clue that another couple called off an engagement. Evan Rachel Wood and Zach Villa got engaged earlier this year back in January, and we found out they ended their engagement in September, a full month after it had been called off.

These two are the duo behind the band Rebel and a Basketcase, and we can't help but wonder if this ending of the engagement will help for music fodder, or if it's making things a bit awkward in the recording studio. We have no way of knowing because of how quiet these two are being about the whole thing, and perhaps they like it better that way.

4 Elon Musk and Amber Heard

Via: eonline.com

Another case of the world finding out a couple broke up through what they post in Instagram comments. Over the summer, their breakup hadn't been personally confirmed by them until Elon Musk had commented on one of Amber Heard's posts, "Btw, just to clear up some of the press storm this weekend, although Amber and I did break up, we are still friends, remain close and love one another. Long distance relationships when both partners have intense work obligations are always difficult, but who knows what the future holds."

Amber waited a few hours before adding her own two cents to the confirmation, "Being in the public eye means having to explain yourself to so many people, so much of the time. In this case, I'd like to remain more quiet. Although we have broken up, Elon and I care deeply for one another and remain close. Thank you for the continued support, respect, and privacy during these difficult, very human times."

3 Elizabeth Olsen and Boyd Holbrook

Via: people.com

This engagement being called off back in 2015 would not have been noticed at all if it wasn't for Elizabeth going around without her engagement ring. It was only then people knew that her engagement with Boyd Holbrook was off, and even then she didn't comment on it, no public statement stating anything about their relationship status. We're not surprised though, considering how rarely her famous older siblings keep their private life out of their interviews. Elizabeth took a page out of their book and kept silent about the whole thing. Holbrook, not so much.

He kept quiet for a good while. It wasn't until a year later that he revealed the details of their breakup in an interview, saying that she had broken things off over the phone. But Elizabeth still kept mum, focusing on much bigger things.

2 Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield

Via: vanityfair.com

These two are the royal couple of keeping things quiet. We didn't even know they were for sure dating or not, you know, except for pictures of them kissing and holding hands. But that could have been method acting for all we know. We were shipping them when we didn't know there was anything to ship. There were theories back in October 2016 that they had broken up, but nothing was really confirmed until two months later Emma Stone mentioned she was single to Rolling Stone Magazine. But this was also the same month that Andrew Garfield said that if he could bring any actor or actress with him onto a desert island, he'd pick Emma.

Whether they are just good friends, or just pulling a fast one on all of us, we're not sure. All we know, is if they end up getting back together (or still together?), we would be very happy.

1 Chris Pratt and Anna Faris

Via: hollywoodlife.com

Gosh, this one still stings a little. These lovely, hilarious two individuals filed for divorce earlier this December, and our hearts are officially broken for this pair. They still speak of each other so well, and are keeping focused on their love and respect for each other, despite it not working out for their marriage. Compared to some other couples on this list, they didn't exactly call it quits quietly, but they posted a joint message on their social media accounts, and left it at that for a moment, letting the world react with their disappointment and heartbreak for a little while before making any comments during interviews. And really, Anna's first response was on her podcast, so it's not exactly to the media. Okay, so we just wanted an excuse to express our sadness again. Fine. We still love both of them.
