Celebrities are some of the most fickle people in the world when it comes to relationships. It seems in Hollywood, it’s all fair game. Whether it’s short-lived marriages, multiple marriages or feuding with family members, A-Listers have never quite seemed stable in their interpersonal relationships (especially with other celebs). However, there are some very rare and very real long-lasting relationships in tinseltown that sometimes cause the rest of us a great deal of envy and those are the true and tried relationships amongst some of the entertainment industry’s most admired and celebrated people. Seriously, how nice would it be to call Jennifer Lawrence in the morning to go grab a cup of coffee? It’s the stuff dreams are made of. Here are 15 Hollywood friendships that we’re totally jealous of.
15 Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer
Jennifer Lawrence has had a meteoric rise to superstardom in the past few years. She has won an Academy Award for best actress and three Golden Globes, just to name a few. Much like JLaw, Amy Schumer also went from being a third rate comedian to the reigning female of comedy in America in a short period of time. It makes sense that the two would meet and hit it off, forming one of the most high profile, jealousy-inducing friendships of recent times. We mean, who wouldn’t want to spend time with either J. Law or Schumer (or better yet, the two of them at once)? We're sure between Amy’s dirty jokes and Lawrence’s constant falling down, it’s a great time to be had.
14 Lena Dunham and Jemima Kirke
Lena Dunham and Jemima Kirke both star on the hit HBO show, Girls. They play two of the four friends showcased in the drama. In real life, however, the two actresses have been thick as thieves since they were children, ever since their school days at Brooklyn's St. Ann's School. The two have remained so close, in fact, that Lena gave Jemima a starring role in her film, Tiny Furniture (which also starred Dunham) and then on the series, Girls. These two are SO close that Dunham even allowed Kirke to tattoo a Yorkshire Terrier on her rib cage without asking any questions. We can’t imagine letting our best friend give us a tattoo, but we would definitely let Kirke give us one.
13 Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun
One of our favorite recent bands has definitely got to be 21 Pilots. They originated in Columbus, Ohio about eight years ago. The band originally consisted of two more members (for a total of four) which are no longer around. However, Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun have gone on to make a great success out of 21 Pilots. The two rock/ hip-hop artists are so close, they had each other’s names tattooed on their respective thighs while onstage at a gig. Now that is the definition of friendship. Similar to Lena Dunham and Jemima Kirke's case, it must take complete trust and love to let a friend tattoo you (and for that tattoo to be of your friend’s name). These very successful pals have relied on each other to make it big, making some of us wish our best friends pushed us that hard.
12 Angelina Jolie and Gwen Stefani
Angelina Jolie has been called a lot of things since ascending to the top of the Hollywood pecking order. She’s been called a great actress, a femme fatale for the modern age, one of the most beautiful women of all-time…the list goes on and on. One thing Angie has not been called very often is a woman’s woman (or a good friend to women), since most of her highly publicized relationships have been with men (like Billy Bob Thornton and Brad Pitt) that were dating or married to other women. It seems, however, that when Jolie is in need of a close female friend, she just calls her BFF Gwen Stefani, whom she has formed a close relationship with and counts as a confidant. We're not going to lie, but we would love to be a third wheel to Stefani and Jolie when they are discussing Gavin Rossdale and Brad Pitt. If walls could talk...
11 Victoria Beckham and Eva Longoria
Another big Hollywood celebrity that we can't imagine having many close female friends is Victoria Beckham. After all, Posh barely seems to get along with her Spice Girls bandmates and in all honesty, doesn’t really come across as a warm and fuzzy person one would want to hang out with. We may be all wrong, however, considering that Beckham counts Eva Longoria as one of her closest friends. They are often snapped by paparazzi running around L.A. together and seen on each other’s Instagram feeds. It is fair to say that Longoria also had a share of bad blood with fellow female co-stars. Does anyone remember the crazy drama that used to be the cast of Desperate Housewives? Maybe Beckham and Longoria are just two peas in a pod.
10 Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer
Jacobson and Glazer met in an independent practice group while taking Upright Citizens Brigade improv classes in New York. However, neither one of them made it onto the group. Not being ones to give up easily, they began work on the hilarious web series, Broad City, which was picked up by Comedy Central and made into the half-hour scripted series we are familiar with. The show revolves around two main characters (also named Abbi and Ilana) as they navigate life in New York City, most often Brooklyn. As funny as the show and its characters are, the creators claim to definitely use a lot of their own real life experiences and personality traits, which are then played up for laughs on the show. Not only are these two very close in real life but they also get the chance to be best friends on the small screen.
9 Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King
Oprah and Gayle met a long time ago. Way before anyone really knew who Winfrey was, let alone King. This is what Oprah said about meeting Gayle about 40 years ago: “Back a lifetime ago, 1976, Baltimore. We were both on a local TV station. She was a production assistant. I was an anchor. We became friends, especially after a big snowstorm. When she couldn’t go out, get home and didn’t have enough clothes, I said, ‘OK, you can have my underwear.’ But then I added, ‘And don’t return it.’" Nowadays, the two are inseparable, taking vacations together, making appearances and giving interviews on their friendship. Many cynics have even suggested that the two are closer than friends, but that sounds like jealousy to us. We all wish our bestie was a billionaire and one of the most influential people in the world.
8 Chace Crawford and Ed Westwick
We all know these two hunks from the hit show, Gossip Girl. Both of these guys are seriously handsome and have set many a fans’ pulses racing, whether it’s during shared scenes on the show or appearances in real life. The two were even roommates during early seasons of the drama-packed television series. There were often times unscrupulous reporters even suggested the two might be more than just friends, like Oprah and Gayle. However, Ed was dating Jessica Szohr, who played Vanessa Abrahams on the show, from 2008 until 2010 (which is about the same time he lived with Crawford). Both actors have gone on to solid careers after the success of Gossip Girl and while they don’t live together anymore, they still appear to be very close friends.
7 Michelle Williams and Busy Philipps
Michelle Williams and Busy Philips met on the set of everyone’s favorite 1990s coming-of-age show, Dawson’s Creek. The show turned out its share of stars; virtually everyone on the cast went on to bigger and better things in Hollywood to varying degrees. Michelle’s star, however, has continued to rise non-stop since the show came to and end. She has received Academy Award nominations as well a Golden Globe for best actress for her role of Marylin Monroe in the biopic, My Week with Marylin (2011). Through all the changes, the one constant for this star has been the presence of her BBF, Busy, throughout her adult career. The two even walked the red carpet together at the 74th Golden Globe Awards earlier this year. This definitely seems like a friendship that will stand the test of time.
6 Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon
Justin Timberlake has been surrounded by some other very famous people since he was a child performer on the Mickey Mouse Club. His friends and cast mates from the hit Disney show include Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling and Kerri Russell, to name a few. Over the years, however, it has been the friendship between Timberlake and Fallon which has stood out amongst all others. The pair met on the set of the 2002 MTV Music Video Awards and since then have starred in a string of Saturday Night Live parodies together. The two are often photographed out and about together and have gotten us all used to hilarity ensuing any time they take to the stage together. Both of these guys seem to be independently awesome but the idea of them being BFFs is pretty cool and a little jealousy-inducing.
5 Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts
Nicole Kidman is one of the biggest superstars of her generation, having won an Academy Award, a BAFTA award and several Golden Globes for best actress. Naomi Watts has had a long list of nominations, too, including two Academy Award nods, a BAFTA nod and a Golden Globes nod. Both women are superb actresses (and we can watch The Hours (2002) or Mulholland Drive (2001) on a loop). It is surprising, however, that these two mega stars have been the closest of friends since being cast in the Australian coming-of-age movie, Flirting, in 1991. That's approximately 25 years of being BFFs and there are certainly many pictures of the two actresses showing just how close they have remained over the years.
4 Jennifer Lopez and Leah Remini
Jennifer Lopez is one of the biggest celebrities in pop music and has been for a long time. While Lopez has had a long list of love interests and husbands since her early days in Hollywood, we don’t often see her hanging out with other female celebrities. Don’t worry though, Lopez has had a BBF in the hilarious Leah Remini for many years. Lopez has expressed her undying support for Remini most recently, as Leah's battled against the Church of Scientology which she once belonged to. That is a big deal, considering the mention of Scientology sends most celebrities cowering in a corner. Not Remini, however; she has taken on the Church and its top members without a hint of fear and Lopez has been there by her side. The two do seem like a great match considering they are both tough New York City girls.
3 Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire
Leonardo DiCaprio is known for having a different supermodel on his arm as often as some people change underwear (it’s true). However, it is his friendship of over 25 years with Toby Maguire that seems to be one of his longest-lasting relationships. The two actors met in the late '80s during an audition. DiCaprio had this to say: "After I met Tobey at an audition, I felt like I wanted this guy to be my friend. I remember driving back from school and he was doing Hot Rod Brown Class Clown with Whoopi Goldberg outside Hollywood High. It was a high school. And I jumped out of my car in the middle of the scene, as they were shooting, practically." Leo added, "I was like, 'Tobey! Tobey! Tobey! Give me your number.' He was like, 'Yeah, who are you again?'" The two have remained friends ever since.
2 Tina Fey and Amy Poehler
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have been in the public eye for many years. Initially, each was a performer on Saturday Night Live, where the public first had the opportunity to see these great comedic talents work together. However, their story dates back to 1993 at Chicago’s Improv Olympic when they were honing their comedic chops. Now, it is not rare to see the two comedy greats, co-hosting SNL or the Golden Globes together. While the two women have forged their own careers independently with hit shows of their own, it is hard not to imagine Fey and Poehler as being a two-for-one deal. These two ladies will always steal the show when paired together, regardless of what the venue is. Like a modern day Laurel and Hardy, they make fans relish the sight of the two of them. One can only imagine the great moments the two share when the camera is not rolling.
1 Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland
This is another friendship that dates back almost 25 years to the early '90s when Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and a few other singers who are lesser known formed the group, Girl’s Tyme, in Houston Texas. From the get-go, the girls made sure to get the attention of the music industry—even going as far as participating (but losing) on the television show Star Search. Since then, many things have changed. First, the group Girl’s Tyme went on to be called Destiny’s Child and their success made them a household name. Now, all three women (Beyoncé , Kelly and Michelle) have their own solo careers, with Beyoncé probably being the most famous pop artist of our generation. One thing that doesn’t seem to change with time, though, is the friendship between Rowland and Beyoncé who are still BFFs and whose children play together now.
