15 Celebrity Endorsements We Just Couldn't Buy Into

Over the years there have been a lot of strange and really bizarre celebrity endorsements; from Ozzy Osbourne’s promotion of the margarine brand, I Can't Believe it's Not Butter, to Jessica Simpson’s The Dessert Treats line (which was basically a line of edible cosmetics *insert eye roll here* ). But fast forward a few years and it seems that Instagram is now the place where celebs want to promote products and are really cashing in on them.

When someone is famous, brands want them to use their things, but often the products that our favorite celebs are endorsing are things we really don’t need. Then there are also questions about whether they are even good for us or if they even work. Below are 15 celebrity Instagram endorsements, and while some of their products are not that surprising, others are very, very unusual.

15 Kaitlyn Bristowe Thinks Reddi-wip Makes Great Desserts

Who doesn’t like dessert? Very few people would answer and say they don’t like something sweet after a meal, but it is still head scratching as to why a celebrity would promote a product like Reddi-wip? Kaitlyn Bristowe, of former The Bachelor fame, has really cashed in on her celebrity following because it seems as though every other week she’s promoting a product. And one of her latest seems to be this sweetened whipped cream product, created by ConAgra Foods.

Her Instagram post claimed that she can handle dessert and told fans to tune into The Bachelor Finale so that they could see the “GREAT dessert" she made thanks to Reddi-wip. If that dessert in her hand is what she’s talking about, then it’s pretty underwhelming since it just looks as though it’s strawberries and whipped cream.

14 Mario Lopez Wants You To Buy An Expensive Pinner Test

Male celebrities definitely cash in on the Instagram endorsement game too, but Mario Lopez’s decision to share a Pinner Test, which is meant to reveal food intolerances, is a weird one.

According to BuzzFeed this product costs $490 and is meant to help users find their food intolerances so that they can remove those foods from their diet. Lopez commented on how the test can help you find out if you have a food intolerance, which could be the reason you “feel tired, maybe a little depressed been gaining some weight…” Lopez’s post certainly makes this product appealing—even if you could buy three good pairs of shoes for the same price—but BuzzFeed claims experts have found no science to support the claims of this test.

13 Katie Price Thinks Your Lips Need Breeze Balm

British TV personality Katie Price has 1.8 million followers on Instagram (currently), and she regularly posts photos of her children, her activities, countless selfies, and then, of course, promotional products. As you can see in this image, Price wants fans to find out all about Breeze Balm beauty. In particular, their lip balm which she claims smells like chocolate. And apparently tastes good too because she licks it off her lips all the time (she must go through a lot of them).

While she didn’t put the obligatory #ad in her post, it would still seem that this is a product she is promoting, because why else write a long speech about Breeze Balm beauty. Then again, considering Price has a serious pout on her, maybe it’s not the worst endorsement ever.

12 Kelly Ripa’s Fans Weren’t Impressed With Her JIF Hazelnut Endorsement

While most celebs promote health and beauty products, Kelly Ripa is not most people because she decided to promote her love for JIF Hazelnut. The difference between this ad and other celeb promotional ads is that she chose not to share a photo of herself eating the strawberry and posing in an exotic location with perfect lighting. Rather she figured she’d just go the easy, straightforward route.

This Chocolate Cheesecake Hazelnut spread looks delicious, but it seems Ripa’s fans were unimpressed with her promotion because responses included one from that read, “You either have a great plastic surgeon or the metabolism of a chiwawa (sic). 2 tbsp = 210cal.” And another commenter wrote, “Wow, the chemicals they can come up with to put in a jar..."

11 Blac Chyna Can’t Even Smile To Promote Express Smile Atlanta

There have been a lot of bizarre celebrity endorsements over the years, like Kim Kardashian giving her approval to Charmin toilet paper, but Blac Chyna’s decision to promote Express Smile Atlanta without even smiling is up there with the strangest. You have to wonder what goes through someone’s mind when they decide they are going to promote a product like Express Smile Atlanta, and then not even smile to show off their teeth. After all, the entire reason for using this product is to make your teeth whiter with the home kit, but Chyna’s decision to simply share a selfie of a close up of her face doesn’t do much to convince fans it actually works.

On a side note, at least her pout game is strong.

10 Becca Tilley Wants To Celebrate Margarita Day With Lime-A-Rita

If you’re a fan of margarita’s, then you may like the Lime-A-Rita idea. On Instagram the brand has this to say; “If you were a margarita in a can and/or bottle, you’d be this colorful too,” and it seems Becca Tilley agrees.

The idea behind this bold packaging is to promote a margarita in a can and make it seem really fun. Former The Bachelor contestant Tilley is a big fan, and took to Instagram to share this photo about how much fun she had with the Lime-A-Rita brand on National Margarita Day. (Yes, apparently there's a day dedicated to this cocktail.) But why is Tilley on this list of strange celebrity endorsements? Well, it’s mostly because promoting any alcohol is a little awkward.

9 Kylie Jenner Loves Tea Wraps, Experts Don’t

Kylie Jenner definitely loves promoting products, but when she decided to promote FitTea Body Wraps it was pretty surprising.

The product is meant to be wrapped around the stomach and the packaging claims it can “tighten, tone and firm” as well as “improve skin texture and tightness.” But some have claimed this idea is ridiculous. According to Daily Mail, Dr. Sam Hay has told Body and Soul there is “no scientific evidence” to suggest the claims made by the brand work. Hay added, “Fat and cellulite have a very low blood supply, so very little of those ingredients [in the wrap] are going to be absorbed through the skin, and even less of it is going to be absorbed into the fat.”

That said, Jenner is not the only celeb to show her love for this brand, and so too has Megan Fox.

8 Farrah Abraham Has Her Hand In Many Endorsement Deals

#SundayFunday @frocofreshfrozencoba addicted since day 1! #froyo #thebest #coba

A post shared by Farrah Abraham (@farrah__abraham) on

When you follow someone on Instagram, you want to be inspired by them or entertained. Maybe you follow the Kardashian clan because you love their fashion or their makeup skills? Maybe you follow Reese Witherspoon because she’s interesting and has great book selection choices? Or maybe you follow Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham because you like product promotions?

Abraham is a celeb who regularly posts endorsements for products, ranging from Flat Tummy shakes to Focus Factor pills, and then there is Froco Fresh Frozen which is a frozen yogurt brand Abraham wants fans to believe she is totally obsessed with. Now, she could very well be a froyo fan, but the endorsements of so many different products is pretty dizzying and she would probably do better to pick one or two, instead of multiple.

7 Kim Zolciak Biermann Can’t Stop Talking About 310 Nutrition

Kim Zolciak Biermann lent her name to the promotion of 310 Nutrition shakes, which are marketed as being delicious, healthy diet drinks to be used as meal replacements. On this post, she wrote about how the brand will always be her favorite and that they offer a “balanced (and delicious) meal and is just what you need to stay energized!”

You need only glance at Zolciak Biermann’s Instagram to see how often she shares her love for this brand as part of a promotional ad. But does she really just drink these shakes all the time and end up feeling full? Or is she snacking on fruits and massive salads in between her posts?

This is not her only beloved product though, because she’s shared many products on her Instagram account over the years, including Lyfe Tea Teatox, Express Smile Atlanta, Lilly Ghalichi eyelashes, and Mink False lashes.

6 Scott Disick Failed Horribly With His Promotion Of Bootea UK

Scott Disick is an extension of the Kardashian-Jenner clan and when it comes to endorsing and promoting products, they are the queens of this. Disick, however, needs a little work. In an absolutely hilarious move, Disick decided to share his love for BooteaUK, and he did this by posing with a jar of their protein shake powder. The problem is that he followed the brand’s instructions word for word, creating a post that read, “Here you go, at 4pm est, write the below. Caption: Keeping up the summer workout routine with my @booteauk protein shake!”

The problem with endorsements like this, as Disick pointed out by accident, is that often celebs don’t even write their own captions or use these products, it’s just a money grab. One good thing that came out of this though is that fans had a good chuckle.

5 Shay Mitchell Takes The Most Luxurious Biore Baths

Does Pretty Little Liars star Shay Mitchell really want us to believe she has all the time in the world to take baths in heat masks to purify her pores?

Mitchell is a beautiful woman and she has fantastic skin, but whether it’s down to Biore’s skincare products or not, well, that’s yet to be determined. What we do know is, she’s a fan (or maybe just of the money that lines her bank account for the promotion of these products), and she decided to share a very professional looking photo of herself wearing the company’s self-heating mask.

Mitchell didn’t caption this photo with any mention of it being an advert, but she did use the hashtag #BioreAmbassador, which certainly suggests to us that she’s an ambassador of the brand, which therefore means she endorses their products.

4 Naomi Campbell Had An Embarrassing Adidas Blunder

You may have chuckled seeing Scott Disick’s endorsement fail, but it seems that he’s not the only one who has done something like this because Naomi Campbell also makes it onto the list of celebrity promotional fails.

This happened when she shared a photo of herself holding up a pair of Adidas shoes, which look as though she’s never even put them on her feet (check out the laces). Then the second issue was with her caption which read: "Naomi, so nice to see you in good spirits. Could you put something like: Thanks to my friend @gary.aspden and all at adidas - loving these adidas 350 SPZL from adidas Spezial range. @adidasoriginals."

After seeing this, you can’t be sure if she posted this because she actually likes Adidas or because she just wanted the cash for it. Either way, it’s embarrassing, and should serve as a lesson to all celebs out there not to just copy and paste!

3 Khloé Kardashian’s Great Hair May Be Thanks To Sugar Bear Hair

What list of celebrity endorsements would be complete without a Kardashian on it? But you have to hand it to the Kardashians because they are usually pretty smart about the products that they promote, minus one or two flubs over the years.

Khloé Kardashian is a big fan of Sugar Bear Hair vitamins, and the company reportedly created the vitamins from a specific formula for all hair types and genders, which is meant to help make hair grow longer and stronger. Also, according to Kardashian’s caption, “These amazing hair vitamins are DELICIOUS!!!”

I'm not going to lie, Khloé Kardashian has great hair, but whether that’s down to Sugar Bear Hair or because she has more products and stylists on hand than any normal person could dream of, well, we can't be sure.

2 Jenni “JWoww” Farley’s Love Of GirlyCurves Could Be Problematic

Want to get killer curves? Well, according to some celebs, waist trainers are going to help you achieve your body goals. The problem is that many people have slammed these products for not working, but they're also bad for your organs.

Health and wellness expert Dr. Tasneem Bhatia told USA Today, "It just crams all of your organs together. So over a long period of time, wearing it too much and too frequently, it can cause damage too.”

Just because a celebrity promotes a product doesn’t mean it’s safe, but former Jersey Shore star Jenni “JWoww” Farley would disagree with the above comment. She wrote, “If I can count on anything I know I can count on my @girlycurves_ waist cincher. Every mom can use that extra help.”

1 Kim Kardashian Does Love A Good Selfie, So Why Not Lumee?!

You have to hand it to the Kardashians, they are very good at promoting their brand and themselves. The whole family are social media influencers, so it makes sense that they would find a way to monetize this. Kim Kardashian West has 109 million followers on Instagram, so of course, she’s going to think to promote products if it’s going to earn her big money. But the products she promotes are not always things people want to spend money on. Take her collaboration with Lumee to promote their phone case range, for example.

That said, it’s not really a stupid endorsement because at least Kardashian West is actually on her phone. A lot. And it sure beats her earlier promotion for toilet paper, so at least she’s gotten smarter about what she lends her name to.
