15 Confessions From Clingy Parents That Give Us Serious Trust Issues

We all love using the Whisper app to confess some of our deepest, darkest secrets...but unfortunately, it looks like our parents share that guilty pleasure. Our mothers and fathers are supposed to raise us to be honest and respectful, but these shocking confessions prove that they don't always practice what they preach. Instead of just talking to us, they snoop through our journals, hack into our social media accounts and low-key find ways to shatter our relationships if they don't like who we're dating. We were always suspicious that our ridiculously clingy parents were up to some shady stuff behind the scenes, and these jaw-dropping whispers totally confirm all of our biggest fears. Now we're never going to get over our extreme trust issues!

15 Dogs are a clingy parent's best friend

They say that dogs are supposed to be man's best friend, but this confession proves that they are secretly every clingy parent's BFF. You thought that the reason your beloved canine always follows you around is because he loves you and wants to spend as much time with you as possible? Nope! He's actually just acting as your parents' spy, keeping tabs on you at all times and ready to rat you out if you ever sneak off. We're not sure how this dad trained his pup to "follow, protect and track" his daughter, but the fact that he pulled such a overprotective and creepy feat off makes us suspicious of all of our pets and their true intentions! What's next, hidden cameras attached to your puppy's leash?!

14 So THAT'S why your boyfriend is so suspicious!

Via: whisper.sh

You hate it when your boyfriend wrongly accuses you of talking to or hanging out with other guys, but his suspicious nature might not actually be his fault—especially if you have a parent as shady and evil as the one who made this confession! Any time this devious mom answers a phone call made by her daughter's boyfriend (who she secretly hates), she lies and says her daughter is out with some other guy in hopes that her deception will throw him into a jealous rage and result in a break up. You can't blame your boyfriend for being upset and freaking out when it seems like every time he calls your house, your supposedly adult and honest mother says you're out with another dude!

13 Just wait until they figure out the truth

Via: whisper.sh

Divorce is always a difficult concept for parents to explain to their kids, and it's even worse when one parent just up and abandons the family without any sort of warning or explanation. The responsible thing to do is tell your children what really happened so they can cope with the sad situation, but this mom opted for the easier option—she claimed her ex's absence was due to his job as a secret agent, and she forges monthly letters from him to keep the ruse going. We thought we were traumatized when we found out our parents lied to us for years about Santa Clause, but this is so much more messed up. How long can she really hope to keep this charade going?!

12 Or you could just tell her the truth?

Via: whisper.sh

Parents always talk about how important it is to be honest, but when the times comes to talking about something they either can't explain properly or fear their kids won't be smart enough to understand, they love making up lies that are easier to explain than the truth. Sure, telling your daughter that cigarettes are filled with cat poop is easier than explaining the dangers of nicotine to her...but you don't want her going through life genuinely thinking that people are going around smoking pet feces. Eventually, she's going to repeat that ridiculously inaccurate statement in public, and look like a complete moron! The resulting humiliation will make her question everything you've ever taught her, and her trust issues will linger for the rest of her life.

11 Just when you thought you were finally popular...

Via: whisper.sh

Admit it, you jump for joy a little bit every time you get a new follower on Instagram or Twitter. Another follower means another person who is genuinely interested in what you're up to with your life, and that sort of validation feels great. After all, everyone wants to feel loved and appreciated! Unfortunately, the hundreds (or if you're really lucky, thousands) of loyal followers you so proudly have on social media might not actually be real. They might just be fake accounts purchased or created by your clingy parents to give you a false sense of popularity. Thanks to this confession, we're never going to be able to stop worrying about whether or not we have as many fans online as we think we do!

10 The guilt doesn't make this okay!

This overprotective mom has some real difficulty respecting her son's privacy. In fact, she's so obsessed with staying in the know when it comes to his social life that she actually stole his girlfriend's journal and read it. She said the guilt is "starting to set in," and it's nice that she's at least aware that she should feel wrong for browsing through a teenage girl's private thoughts, but that definitely doesn't make her actions any less despicable. This whisper proves that it's not just our stuff that we have to hide from our intrusive parents...we have to worry about them somehow going through our significant other's belongings, too! We definitely don't want to know what's going on behind-the-scenes of our parents marriage, so why on earth do they want to know what's happening with our relationships?!

9 What social life could your 10-year-old really be having?!

Via: whisper.sh

Thank goodness for Facebook and Instagram's privacy settings. We all used to have our profiles open to the public, but when our parents discovered social media and created accounts for the sole purpose of stalking us, we couldn't switch our profiles to "private" fast enough! This mom proves how openly parents stalk their kids online these days, and while this isn't a surprising revelation by any means...it's a bit weird that this mother feels the need to spy on her 1o-year-old's Instagram. What could he possibly be posting at that age that would be a surprise? If she's already obsessed with her son's social life this early on, we're nervous to think about what she'll be like when he starts dating or going to parties.

8 Um, you better figure this out fast!

Parents, if one of your kids is acting "out of character," find some time to actually talk to them and see if there's something wrong. Changes in your child's personality are not an invitation for you to go through their diary! That being said, if you do go through your daughter's diary and learn from your snooping that she's contemplating suicide, you should not be going on Whisper to write about how you "don't know how to bring this up with her." You should immediately reach out to her, do everything you can to make it clear how much you love her and offer to bring her to a therapist so she has someone to talk to if she's not ready to talk to you about her depression. You're the adult, start acting like it!

7 This is why they sell diaries with locks

Via: whisper.sh

Okay, here's yet another confession from a parent who went through their child's diary. Kids, if your parents buy you a journal or diary so you have a way to write down some of your thoughts and secrets, you should apparently just throw it out ASAP—parents just can't be trusted! This girl thought her diary was a safe place to write about her sex life, but of course, she was wrong. Her mom found out she's no longer a virgin. Sure, this saves them from having to have the infamously uncomfortable "birds and the bees" conversation, but that doesn't make this invasion of privacy acceptable. From now on, we will only even consider buying a diary if it comes with a lock and key, and we can keep the key on our person at all times so our folks can't find it or make a copy.

6 So proud of her hacking, she made a hashtag

Via: whisper.sh

Guys, any time you talk to your crushes via text or over the internet, be absolutely sure you're not saying anything your mother wouldn't approve of...because this confession proves that there's a chance that she's reading every word. This self-proclaimed "hacker mom" is so proud of her spying, she gave herself a hashtag. And instead of feeling guilt over her invasion of her son's privacy, she simply feels pride over how funny and smooth her son is with the ladies. Um, creepy. It's also a huge double standard... we're sure a father wouldn't be this proud of his daughter for being a good flirt with her peers. Confessions like these make us want to change our phone and social media passwords on an hourly basis.

5 Way to blow it for your son, Mom

Via: whisper.sh

Finally, here's a confession from a parent who actually got caught while she was being shady AF. This clingy mom "routinely" checks her son's phone, and her repeated snooping led to her eventually dialing his crush and leaving an accidental minute-long voicemail. The crush will surely ask her son what's going on, and he'll figure out that he's not the only one who uses his phone at home. Karma is coming back to bite you, Mom! Now your son is never going to trust you around his phone, and he's likely going to keep those trust issues for the rest of his life. This all could have been avoided if you just tried learning about his life by talking to him, instead of by breaking into his phone all the time.

4 This is why you don't give your GF's parents your number

Via: whisper.sh

Never give your girlfriend's parents your phone number. Unless you're absolutely positive she's the one and that her parents are going to be your in-laws in the near future, there's simply nothing good that can come from your GF's folks being able to text you. Hours after having sex with his girlfriend, this poor guy opened up his phone to find a text from her dad. "Next time after you guys have sex, make sure my daughter's shirt is actually right side out." How completely and utterly embarrassing! Now this poor kid is going to be way too scared to have sex with his girlfriend, because he doesn't want to leave behind any evidence would could lead to a repeat of this horrific experience. That sort of paranoia isn't going away any time soon.

3 Okay, this is sort of sweet

Via: whisper.sh

When this dad drove his daughter to college for the very first time, he got lost en route and was forced to spend a few more hours with his little girl. What she likely didn't realize is...he got lost on purpose because he wanted to prolong her departure for as long as possible. While this is yet another confession that proves parents are super manipulative and can't be trusted, we can't help but find it slightly adorable. He loved his daughter so much, he desperately searched for ways to hold onto her. As soon as we're done sighing over how sweet this is, we're going to try to figure out if this is why our own clingy parents seem to get lost every single road trip.

2 Downright diabolical parenting right here

Via: whisper.sh

Your parents claim to be supportive of your relationships, because, as they like to tell you, "if you're happy, I'm happy." This confession proves that claim is absolute bull. They smile and act all polite any time your boyfriend comes over, but then they do some seriously shady stuff behind the scenes to ensure your relationship won't last. This diabolical mother found out that her daughter's boyfriend can't stand spicy food, so she makes sure to make every meal as spicy as possible when he comes over for dinner so he'll be absolutely miserable. An evil scheme like this is something you'd expect teenagers to do in a high school soap opera, not something you'd think a grown-up could be capable of in real life!

1 Real mature, Mom

Via: whisper.sh

Speaking of evil schemes, it just doesn't get much worse than this! In this confession, an overprotective mother hated her son's girlfriend so much, she actually created a fake Facebook account so she could befriend her and "sabotage their relationship." She claimed to be her son's cousin, and will likely use her false persona to spread a lot of lies and rumors that will make the girlfriend fall out of love with her son. We thought the people featured on MTV's Catfish were shady and disgusting, but this is just 10 times more disturbing. What kind of a parent goes this far out of their way to ruin their child's happiness?! It's stuff like this that makes us scared to trust anyone we meet online.
