You have to admire the Supernatural fandom. They're just as passionate and dedicated as they were 12 seasons ago. It's why they're one of the loudest fandoms on Tumblr. And they're not just vocal about their love of the show, they're also exceptionally creative in expressing it. As a result of their enthusiasm, you can't post anything on Tumblr without them finding a gif to fit. And we love them for it.
Some their most creative work is done by the contingent of Supernatural fans that ship Castiel and Dean... also known as Destiel. They've had to be creative because Destiel isn't canon. They're still holding out hope that it might happen and, considering how determined they are, they won't give up until it does or until the show ends - whichever comes first. Hopefully the former because we don't want to imagine a world without Sam, Dean, Cas and Crowley.
In the meantime, Destiel shippers, this collection of memes is for you.
15 Because you fly that flag with pride
Castiel first appears in the fourth season of the show after bringing Dean back from Hell. And what a glorious first appearance it was. Lights exploding, a door bursting open, thunder crashing and - suddenly - a man in a trenchcoat. You really can't go wrong with that combination in any show, but after rock salt doesn't harm the man and the demon knife does nothing, you're left with a scene that only Supernatural could pull off. After Dean asks him who he is, Cas replies by saying, "I'm the one who gripped you tight and raised you from Perdition." More flashing lights, a crash, and Dean sees Cas's wings. But none of that is as interesting to Destiel shippers than the intense eye lock that happens afterward. We're pretty sure that's when the good ship Destiel set sail. And this was the flag it was flying when it did.
14 Because you appreciate the gift that is Jensen Ackles
You probably don't like to think back to the dark days before Dean Winchester was an actual thing, but do you remember when we only knew Jensen Ackles as Eric Brady on Days of Our Lives? Actually, we're pretty sure Jensen would like to forget those days too. Or at least some of the cheesy photo shoots he did during that time. Like this one.
Even back then, it was clear that he was a beautiful man. And he's gotten better with age. Which is why it's totally plausible that anyone - even an angel - would sell his soul for a shot with him. Actually, how many shippers have considered a deal with a crossroads demon in exchange for Supernatural's canon to include Destiel? If you're ever feeling that desperate, save your soul by taking comfort in knowing that there's seldom real romance for any of the characters on the show. Plus, you know, potential partners die. Often.
13 Because you do all the required research
All TV fandoms spend considerable amounts of time obsessing over fine details that casual viewers wouldn't notice. The Supernatural fandom is one of the most diligent of them all. They'll research everything - from throwaway lines of dialogue to religious symbols - and then share it with Tumblr so that we all stay informed. This post is one of those.
The writers may not have any plans to write Destiel into the show, but that doesn't mean they aren't aware of the ship or don't like having fun with the fans. Cynical observers have accused the show of queerbaiting, but hopefully, that's not the case and that the writers just like to make sure the fans feel acknowledged. They play fast and loose with the fourth wall in general (like that time Dean and Sam are sent to an alternate reality where they're actors on a show called Supernatural) so when things like this Purgatory moment happens, it's all part of the fun.
12 Because you appreciate Misha Collins as Misha and as Castiel
It's true, Misha Collins is the greatest gift to mankind. No exaggeration. He's as dedicated to the show as the fans are - and you can't help but love him for it. His interactions with fans on various social media platforms go over and above the call of duty. It's quite incredible how important he's become to the show, especially considering that he was supposed to appear in only three episodes. That was all the way back in Season 4 and, eight seasons later, he's still with us.
He frequently plays along with fans, but that's not all: He uses his status to do incredible charity work - becoming a real life angel. One of his philosophies is that acts of kindness really can change the world, which is why he co-founded a charity called Random Acts, amongst other things. It's taken Cas 8 seasons to go from emotionless to compassionate but it seems like Misha has always been that way.
11 Because you know everything that happens at conventions...
... and you make sure we know about it all too. One of the best ways to keep track of a show, meet the people involved in it and interact with other fans is to attend conventions. Cult TV shows - even ones that have been off air for years (RIP Firefly) - are known for their appearances on the convention circuit. There are so many of them that it's hard to keep track, let alone attend them all. Fortunately, there are always other fans willing to share their experiences at conventions with everyone who wasn't there. The Destiel fandom is family that way. Which is how Tumblr posts like this exist. Unless their names are Nathan Fillion, it seems like this is the kind of thing actors would get sick of doing, but the Supernatural cast is always obliging, willing and full of fun at conventions. We'd like to think it's because they get on so well in real life.
10 Because you made sure Destiel was there during Megstiel
Look, Megstiel was kind of fun. It's always amusing to watch Cas get awkward about normal human things like flirting, dating, and relationships. And Meg, despite being a demon, did sacrifice herself so that our heroes could escape Lucifer's Crypt with the angel tablet. Part of the reason why the relationship between Meg and Cas was enjoyable to watch was because it seemed like such an unlikely thing. (Ahem... kind of like Destiel.) Meg was a Demon. One of the worst of them too. Cas is an angel. Mostly one of the best of them. Sure, opposites are supposed to attract, but this was on a whole other level. Considering that she works with Dean and Sam to protect Castiel from Crowley, it seems like she genuinely cared for him. As much as a demon can care for anyone anyway. They made a cute couple. Still not as cute as Dean and Cas. 7.

9 Because you're always so creative
Destiel fans, how do you think of this stuff? Also, is this not the most adorable family you've ever seen? They look amazing for a bunch of people who've been possessed, tortured and killed so often. It must be the love that keeps them beautiful. The time Castiel spends looking into his vessel, Jimmy Novak, during Season 10 is integral to showing Cas's growth over the seasons. His empathy for Jimmy and his daughter Claire is one of the ways in which we can see that Castiel has gone from an emotionless angel-automaton to a being with compassion and humanity. Understandably, it takes Claire a while to see the same thing we do. (Cas did take her father away from her, after all.) But by Season 11, even she can see the changes in him. If Destiel will never be made canon on the actual show, can we please find a way to get this movie made?
8 Because you're always so funny on Tumblr
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the hilarity of "opens closet?" Also, one moment of reality to think about where they boys kept all their flannel before they found the Men of Letters bunker? This Tumblr post brings us to an important question, though: What would Sam think of Destiel? Potential answer: He's the more tolerant of the two brothers and family is so important to him that he'd probably be thrilled. Outside of a potential Cas and Dean pairing, seeing the friendship between these three grow has been one of the most rewarding things to watch. Castiel's loyalty to the two Winchesters is one of the things that separates him from the other angels because it's through the brothers that he comes to see that a human's life has value. It's also through Sam and Dean that he learns the importance of individuality and the right to self-determination.

7 Because you don't miss a thing
Seeing this line written out is a bit confusing. Read out of context, it seems like Cas was naked on top of Baby, which is delicious wishful thinking and not something anyone is opposed to seeing. What's really happening here is that Dean is swearing on Baby that Cas showed up naked and covered in bees. In case you'd like a reminder, here's the scene where the line is said. And you know, whenever Dean swears anything on his car, he's being deadly serious. It is his most prized possession, after all. This wasn't a moment that only the Destiel fandom would've liked to have seen. We're all more than happy to see any one of the boys shirtless. Whenever one of these moments happens on the show, you can be sure that Destiel shippers are rewinding, pausing and obsessing. And, of course, finding a show-related gif that perfectly describes their reaction.
6 Because you made this meme
Destiel shippers are famous for their incredible artwork, gifsets, and meme creation. This is one of their best efforts. It may not be a quote from the show, but the Winchesters + Cas are family. Actually, Cas is treated more like a brother than their real half-brother Adam... who is still sealed in Lucifer's Cage. Although no one seems too concerned about that. In fact, we're not sure they even remember he exists. *Subtle spoiler alert* There's a quote by Cas in one of the recent episodes of Season 12 that perfectly describes his feelings about the boys:
You know this world? This sad, doomed little world? It needs you. It needs every last Winchester it can get, and I won't let you die. I won't let any of you die. And I won't let you sacrifice yourselves, you mean too much to me. To everything. Yeah, you made a deal. You made a stupid deal, and I broke it. You're welcome.
5 Because you've made Destiel a part of your everyday lives
The comment made by this Tumblr user is actually quite true: Fans - especially those in Tumblr fandoms like Destiel - are obsessed enough to name their kids after their favorite characters. Not to lump something like Twilight in with Supernatural, but after the books/movies were released there was an upswing in the number of babies named Bella and Edward. Sam and Dean are normal, already established names. (Eric Kripke has said that he named Dean after one of the characters in Jack Kerouac's novel On the Road.) Castiel... not so much with the name normality. If you do choose to name your son after him, you should know that in Hebrew, it means Shield of God. Good Idea: Name your Chevy Impala 'God.'
But in 10 years, when our shows (#sadforever) are no longer around, this will be one of the ways we'll recognize each other. You know, besides the fact that we'll all be driving Impalas, eating too much pie and living in bunkers.
4 Because you give us potential headcanons
If anyone were to force Cas and Dean out of their constant eye-locking and into acknowledging their feelings for each other, it would be Sam. He's often portrayed as the more sensitive of the two brothers and is genuinely better at reading people's emotions that Dean. Um... except for that time when his soul was trapped in a cage with Lucifer and Michael. And that other time when he was thought hooking up with Ruby was a good idea. Oh, and when he decided he was fine with dying during the demon trials. In spite of (and often flat out ignoring) his brother's stubbornness, he's often the one that forces Dean to talk about his feelings. Considering all of this, it's entirely possible that Sam will ignore the writers and take matters into his own hands. What? Is he not real? Allow us to dream, please?
3 Because you're hopeless romantics
Awww, you guys. This is adorable. But, actually, in the Supernatural universe, a gray sky is never a good thing. It means the angels have fallen, that the apocalypse is near or that God's evil sister is awake. Or that Dean has stopped enjoying pie. (Which is the most terrifying of all those things.) Speaking of sweet nothings, there are times when they say ... ahem... interesting things to - and about - each otherLike this one from Dean: Cas, not for nothing, but the last time someone looked at me like that...I got laid.
And this conversation between Sam and Cas:Sam: So what, you like him better, or something?Castiel: Dean and I do share a more profound bond. I wasn't going to mention it.
Or how about this throwaway comment by Balthazar:Sorry, you have me confused with the other angel. You know, the one in the dirty trench coat who's in love with you.
And the best of them all, when Meg says to Dean (about Cas), "Ask him, he was your boyfriend first!"
2 Because you understand them
Watching a relationship unfold between these two would be fascinating. If only because they're both completely useless at expressing their feelings and would inevitably say awkward things. You can totally imagine Dean saying something like, "Damnnnnndelion." And it's just as easy to think that Cas would miss the point entirely and point out this awkward truth about dandelions. Many of the things humans say go right over his head. Watching Misha Collins pull that confused face is one of the best things to happen in an episode.
1 And, most importantly, you know how they'd win each other over
Dean loves pie almost as much as he loves his car. Some of the best moments in the show are when he's scoffing pie (he hasn't got the best table manners) and Sam is watching him with an expression that is equal parts disgusted and amused. Hey, no judging here... pie is delicious. So it stands to reason that if Dean loves pie and Cas loves Dean, then the way to his heart is through pie. PIE flavored pie. The only way this could get any better for Dean is it if was served on Baby's hood and was followed by a romantic little hunt to kill something icky.
Destiel shippers, keep doing what you're doing. Tumblr wouldn't be the same if you didn't.
