Although his mother found fame and fortune acting, the Hollywood scion has his own aspirations. Edited from his Instagram: "One day, I walked onto a random film set... decided to film random stuff... they tried to stop me... i kept filming... the director begging me to get off of her set. Never let people [or police] tasers stop you from accomplishing your dreams."
Although he was being facetious, Julian has no plans to follow in his mother's footsteps as an actor, however, it's clear he's got talent behind the camera!
9 Julian Murray Stern Is An Only Child
Julian Murray Stern was born in California on May 7, 1998. His parents had been married for three years by then. Although his father is a successful businessman, his celebrity lineage comes from his mother who is a 12-time Primetime Emmy nominee and won the award in 1996 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
Although Lisa Kudrow may have given birth to triplets on Friends, Julian is her only child in real life! Luckily for Lisa, Stern made his desire to not have any siblings clear from early on, which worked out quite well for the 23-year-old. 7 Julian Murray Stern Is Pals With The Beckhams
Like any SoCal kid who lives in the warm weather with lots of outdoor activities, the tween liked riding scooters and skateboarding.
Considering celebrity parents attract other famous parents, it’s not a surprise that Julian hangs with Brooklyn Beckham and the entire Beckham gang, especially at the skate park, which Brooklyn has also taken a major liking to. Julian has likely met many other celebrities' children, but he is certainly closest to the Beckham family.
6 Julian Murray Stern Had A Drive-By Bar Mitzvah
Julian was at a mall when men from the Chabad movement asked him if he was of that faith. Julian said he was half-Jewish [on his mother’s side]. The Kudrow family is not particularly religious, so what occured next came as a great shock to Julian's mother.
They said: “Great, come here, we’ll give you a bar mitzvah in 30 seconds.” He went home and told his mother that while at the shopping center, he bought a video game and got bar mitzvah-ed. Surprise mom!
5 Julian Murray Stern Has Five “Aunts And Uncles”
Aside from biological relatives, Julian could count his mother’s close-knit group of talented castmates from 'Friends' as his own family: Courteney Cox (Monica Geller), Jennifer Aniston (Rachel Green), Matt LeBlanc (Joey Tribbiani), Matthew Perry (Chandler Bing), David Schwimmer (Ross Geller).
Considering Kudrow welcomed Julian back in 1998, during the height of the show, it's no surprise that the entire cast stepped in to help the new mom navigate motherhood alongside her French hubby, Michael Stern. The Friends cast were extremely close while shooting the show, so everyone certainly pitched in to help each other. The extra support was also true during Matthew Perry's ongoing battle with addiction.
4 Julian Murray Stern's Birth Was Written Into 'Friends'
The star of HBO’s The Comeback was already four seasons into her popular television series when she found out she was pregnant. Because the “air-head” member of the sextet was so valuable to the cast, her pregnancy was written into the storyline of her character, Phoebe Buffay, who decides to act as a surrogate and has triplets.
While Kudrow was pregnant with triplets on the show, she was actually carrying Julian all throughout season 4, hence her having to stay back during the cast's visit and filming session in London, England. Her character ended up giving birth early in the show's 5th season.
3 Julian Murray Stern Is Not A Fan Of 'Friends'
During a 2014 Jimmy Kimmel interview, Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion star revealed that her son, who was 16 at the time, was not a fan of Friends. This came as a great shock to fans considering this was the role that launched his mother's career.
When the host offered that kids aren’t often interested in their parent’s careers, the comic actress pointed out that Julian loved “everybody else." The actress went on to say she was worried that Stern would like Jennifer Aniston more than her! It is unknown if Kudrow's son has watched the entirety of Friends or if he has only seen a couple episodes.
2 Julian Murray Stern Had A Hands-On Mother
Even though she was on a world-renowned network television megahit, the Analyze This actress treated it like a typical 9-to-5. In fact, she passed on other acting opportunities that could have shown people she was more than "Phoebe," because she didn’t want to uproot her child “to New York, then London,” as she told Glamour in 2014.
Luckily for Julian, Lisa was involved very much throughout his life, allowing him to feel as if he had a normal upbringing, despite her A-list status in Hollywood.
1 Julian Murray Stern Graduated College
When mama has a BS in Biochemistry, education will be a priority. He attended Crossroads in California for high school, and, even though he and his parents toured universities in Boston, Julian decided to attend the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. Lisa was certainly happy that her son chose to stay close to home for college, since it meant she got to see him more often than just school breaks. She was also proud of Julian for continuing on the family business by studying a subject in the entertainment industry.
His junior thesis Mind Made Up is available online, which is a quick look into the work he did during his time at college. In May 2021, Julian officially graduated, leaving mom, Lisa with no choice but to post the celebratory moment on Instagram.
