Some things you see online just can’t be explained. Today, we’re going to look at some of these in picture form. Many of these weird pictures have simple explanations, like Photoshop, a panorama shot gone wrong, or time travel.
I know, I know. It all sounds crazy, but there are quite a few pictures and videos floating around the web that people think can only be explained by time travel. As weird as it sounds, some of them will seriously challenge you. Whether it’s a misplaced object or person in a time period that just doesn’t make sense, the following 15 images below will definitely make you pause and think for a moment. Keep reading to see 15 weird pictures that can most easily be explained by time travel.
17. This Mike Tyson Fan
The idea of seeing a cell phone in 1995 wouldn’t be that weird. They were huge, expensive, and inconvenient, but they still existed. But they definitely looked nothing like the high-tech Smartphones of today. So how do you explain the boxing fan in the background of an August 1995 boxing match, who appears to be holding up a modern day Smartphone to record Mike Tyson? Time travel? Or is it not what it appears to be?
It’s impossible to say for sure, but a lot of people definitely think it looks like a Smartphone. No cell phone invented in 1995 had cameras and they definitely didn’t look like that. People who aren’t buying the time travel theory have a different theory. They say there were small cameras back then that looked pretty similar to this one and he was clearly holding one of those. But who knows for certain?
16. Meeting His Future Self
Håkan Nordkvist knew no one would believe that he found a wormhole in his kitchen. Naturally, that made him decide to take a picture with his future self. He claims that he opened the cabinet under his sink and instead of seeing the pipes for his sink that he expected to see, he saw a bright tunnel. So he climbed in because, well, who wouldn’t?! He says that once he got there, he realized he was in the year 2042 and found his future self there. Because he knew no one would believe this had happened, he whipped out his phone and took a view of the two of them together, including the fact that they both had the exact same tattoo in the same place. Do you believe him?
15. An Ancient Greek Laptop
Who knew they had laptop computers in ancient Greece? Okay, they probably didn’t. But this statue definitely looks like this person is looking at one that’s being held out to her, right? People who are into time travel conspiracy theories claim that this carving of potential modern technology in such an old statue, is clearly a sign of time travel.
Meanwhile, people who criticize the theory say that it’s not a laptop and that she’s looking into a box while she lifts up the lid. The fact that it’s so shallow is what makes it look like it might be a laptop. Considering there aren’t many details on it, like a keyboard or anything, the shape of the mysterious object is all anyone really has to go on either way.
14. This Mysterious Object Found In Russia
This object is a lot more confusing than it seems. It was found in 2009 in the village of Sarakseevo, Moscow region, Russia. At first, people believed it was just a regular stone until they took a closer look at it. Then, it became obvious that there were some kind of confusing secrets hidden inside of it. Upon closer examination, it’s obvious that there’s a screw inside the rock. But why? Who put it there and what was it for?
These are all questions that remain unsolved, but this stone wasn’t the only strange object found in Russia. Another strange screw and an aluminum gear—that are believed to be over 300 million years old—were found there, too. Unfortunately, the questions of what they were used for will probably go unanswered for a long time.
13. Rudolph Fentz
The story of Rudolph Fentz is incredibly confusing and bizarre. Some people claim that it’s a true story and proof of time travel, but the truth is that it was just a story. Since the invention of the Internet in the 1990s, it’s been spread more and more as an urban legend. Because of this, the fact that it was a short story written in the 1950s has been mostly forgotten. Pictures of the supposed incident often accompany the story, but they’re all just as fake as the person in them was.
The story is about a man named Rudolph Fentz who appears in the middle of Time Square in 1951. He looks disoriented, is wearing old clothes, and no one has any idea how he got there. He gets hit by a taxi and dies of his injuries before anyone can help him and upon getting to his body, the police find a letter from 1876 and business cards with his name on them. After a tiring search to identify him, a police officer finds out that he went missing without a trace in 1876, but doesn’t report it because he knows no one will believe him.
Although this is an incredibly entertaining story and would be solid proof of time travel, it’s not a real one. That doesn’t stop people from passing around pictures and telling slightly modified versions as though they’re fact, though!
12. The Time Traveling Hipster
This picture is one of the most widely recognized examples of a picture that people claim is proof of time travel. Although it looks like a normal group of people gathering around for a photo op, there’s one person who stands out like a sore thumb. See that guy in the cardigan with the sunglasses? He’s who people who are big into time travel conspiracies call the “time traveling hipster.” And for good reason! Look at him with his messy hair and his wool sweater.
The reason people claim he’s a time traveler is because of his clothes and the camera he’s holding. People say that what he’s wearing (a graphic tee, sunglasses, and sweater) weren’t popular when this was taken in 1940. Plus, that camera looks pretty modern. I’m no expert on the fashion trends of that time, but I have to admit he looks pretty out of place!
11. Keanu Reeves’ Secret Identity
Paul Mounet was a French actor born in 1847. If his face looks familiar to you, it’s not weird, even if you’ve never seen a classic French film! He’s gotten a lot of fame on the Internet in more recent years due to the fact that he looks eerily like the modern A-lister, Keanu Reeves. Although Paul Mounet allegedly died in 1922 of heart disease, some people claim that he died under “mysterious circumstances” and that his body wasn’t actually found. Could that be because he never quit acting and we just know him today as The Matrix‘s, Keanu Reeves?
10. Michael Jackson In Ancient Egypt?
Celebrity doppelgängers aren’t that strange. There are plenty of modern celebrities who look a lot like each other. Before Katy Perry changed her black hair and bangs, people would compare her to Zooey Deschanel all the time. And Nina Dobrev and Victoria Justice seriously look like they could be sisters! Two celebrities coincidentally looking alike is nothing weird and definitely not proof of time travel. But a celebrity whose lookalike is a bust that was carved in around 1550 BC? That’s weird!
The Field Museum in Chicago has had this 3,000 year old ancient Egyptian bust on display for 21 years. Its popularity skyrocketed in the years after Michael Jackson’s death due to the fact that it looks just like him. Is this a sculpting coincidence or was the king of pop also a musical sensation in the time of King Tut? We’ll never know, but this display is eerie.
9. This Weird Flying Object
Conspiracy theorists actually give this strange finding in a classical painting two explanations: time travel or aliens. I say, why not both? Time traveling aliens sounds as likely as any other explanation for what’s going on in the background of this painting.
This painting dates back to the 15th century and is called “The Madonna with Saint Giovannino” by Domenico Ghirlandaio. For the most part, this painting looks like any other painting from that time. Until you look a little closer and notice that thing flying in the background. Is it a UFO? Or an airplane? I’m just as confused as the guy in the painting looking up at it. Either way, people in the 1400s didn’t have that kind of technology. So it’s anyone’s guess how Domenico Ghirlandaio thought to paint one into this scene!
8. This Car That Comes Out Of Nowhere
Um, nope! Watch this GIF carefully because if you blink, you might miss that car that seriously comes out of nowhere. The car itself doesn’t look out of place, it looks like it’s a modern car just like the others that are driving around it. But the fact that it appears to come out of thin air is what makes this clip incredibly strange.
Skeptics have said that the car was just driving right next to the one it pulls out in front of. If this is the case, the dash cam that caught this footage wouldn’t have been able to see it until it pulled out the way it did. This seems like it could be a good explanation, but a lot of people insist that can’t be true because of the angle it appears to be driving at when it drives away.
7. This Cell Phone In The ’30s
The first ever cell phone was made in 1973, but some confusing footage of women leaving a factory in 1938 is seriously making people question that fact. The woman in the middle appears to be carrying a cell phone that she’s talking into as she leaves the factory with her co-workers. Is she, though? Or is it a coincidence?
Someone claiming to be one of the grandchildren of this mysterious woman came forward after the clip got popular. Allegedly, this woman’s name was Gertrude Jones, a 17-year-old who was working for a factory owned by Dupont. They said that the factory was experimenting with wireless phones for inside the factory for the workers to use to communicate with each other. But this doesn’t explain why she has it outside or the fact that no one else seems to have one! Whether this is proof of time travel or has a more simple explanation, this is still undeniably strange.
6. Or In A Charlie Chaplin Film?
What kind of sloppy time traveler would walk right through the set of one of the most famous movie stars of the time? Well, apparently this older woman, dressed in sophisticated looking clothing and holding something that appears to be a phone up to her head, would! This clip was from some behind-the-scenes footage from Charlie Chaplin’s 1928 film The Circus. The way she’s walking with her hand up to her ear totally looks like she’s talking into a cell phone, right?
Skeptics say that she’s more than likely holding an ear trumpet, a funnel shaped device that was used as a hearing aid, up to her ear. Another theory that people use to debunk the cell phone idea is that it might be an ice pack or something for an injury. Who knows!
5. This 1905 Mohawk
In modern society, a mohawk hairstyle is usually associated with someone who is into punk rock music and generally non-conformist in their style. Although they got this image attached to them in the 1970s and ’80s, they date all the way back to 300 BC. Crazy, right? They weren’t particularly popular in mainstream society until punk music emerged with musicians rocking them until way later, but the 1939 movie Drums Along the Mohawk is what a lot of people credit with introducing them into modern Western culture.
This photo shows a man wearing a short sleeved shirt and apparently rocking a messy mohawk in 1905! Although it’s not unbelievable that he would have that hairstyle long before they were popular (it was originally a haircut that the Pawnee wore, so perhaps this figure is from the Native tribe), the fact that he looks so out of place makes a lot of people call this picture proof of time travel. Was he ahead of his time or did he travel back 65 years into the past?
4. This Surfer At The Gold Rush
If you don’t look closely at this picture, you might not notice anything out of the ordinary. Someone found this picture in a book called The Cape Scott Story which says that it was taken in 1917 at San Josef Bay. For the most part, this picture looks like a pretty normal old looking photo. But, like many of the other items on this list, there’s just one little thing that stands out and seems like it doesn’t quite fit.
The reason this photo has gotten so much attention is because of that shaggy haired guy over in the left half of the picture. While everyone else is dressed somewhat nicely in clothes that fit the stereotype of the 1900s (and are all posed for a group photo), this guy is different. He has longer hair, a t-shirt and a pair of shorts on, and he looks like he’s not ready for the picture to be taken. Even the guy sitting next to him looks surprised that he’s there. Is this a hoax to fool people or did this surfer dude time travel back to the turn of the century?
3. Jennifer Lawrence And Zubaida Tharwat
I have to admit, this one is a bit of a stretch. Zubaida Tharwat was an Egyptian actress who was in movies from the 1950s through the 1980s. If her name or face seems familiar even though you’ve never watched any Egyptian movies, there’s a reason for it! In more recent years, she’s gotten some attention around the Internet due to the fact that she looks so similar to Jennifer Lawrence. Jennifer Lawrence isn’t the first celebrity to have an old time doppelganger, either. People have found old pictures of people who look just like Keanu Reeves, and Jay-Z among other celebrities. These pictures make people wonder whether or not they might have time traveled to the future to gain fame and fortune.
So, did Zubaida give up her career in Egypt to come to the present day to be Jennifer Lawrence? Probably not. Especially considering the fact that she only died in 2016, while Jennifer Lawrence’s career began in 2006. But it’s hard to deny these big screen beauties look eerily alike!
