15 Moms Who Totally Rocked The #Brelfies

Breastfeeding can be considered one of the most unselfish and loving acts that a mother can do for her child. Not only is it beneficial for the baby, but it can strengthen the bond between the mom and her little one. Yet, as is often the case, the moment a mom starts breastfeeding her child, she is met with uncomfortable eyes from onlookers. A baby needs its food on demand—it doesn't matter if the mother is at a shopping mall, on a plane, or in any other public place.

To create awareness about this amongst the masses and to encourage breastfeeding in public, moms worldwide, including our favourite celebrity moms, are posting selfies of themselves nursing their babies—now popularly known as brelfies. Yes, people, selfies have taken a new form for mothers these days. While our celebrity moms are totally rocking their brelfies all over the internet, we present to you some everyday moms who are badass and nailed their #brelfies just as much as their celeb counterparts.

15 The dreamer mom

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Via: instagram.com[/caption]

For Amanda, popularly known as @coldcupoftea in Instagram, she describes holding a child while breastfeeding as like holding your own tiny map of bones, recognizing your own scent through the baby’s skin, and not being able to live without the part of you that now lives outside.

It really touched a few chords in my heart. The picture is even more beautiful than the words, isn’t it? The way she looks far away, like in a dreamland of her own, it seems like she is trying to etch the feeling of her baby’s suckles in her mind forever. And why not? Babies grow up fast. But this feeling of your baby pressed onto your chest is one to cherish forever.

14 The on-board mom

When you are travelling on a plane, it is absolutely necessary to feed your baby while taking off and landing. It helps to ease the ear pain that may occur due to change in air pressure. Many moms dreaded breastfeeding their child in the fear that other passengers would gawk at them or feel uncomfortable around them, but guess what? That has to end. Instagram user, @Serannajshutt, puts these social barriers out of the plane window by doing what is best for her baby.

Just look at how happy and excited she looks in the picture, not giving a damn about who is next to her. She is just busy being with her own company, her baby and, well, the camera.

13 The dressed to breastfeed mom

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Via: instagram.com[/caption]

When you have to breastfeed in public, you really need to think about what you wear. You can't just wear a short dress with a button on back, can you? Been there, done that, and it really had my baby shrieking while I found a nice, discreet place where I could lift my dress up all the way to my chest. I learned the hard way, but not @hotmamaclothing.

While deciding to breastfeed her child in public, it shows that she is a super mom and she takes it to next level by power dressing i.e. dressing to breastfeed. This nursing top does exactly what it needs to. Exposing and concealing at just the right places. Plus, the print is gorgeous. I am already drooling over it.

12 The toddler nursing mom

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="700"] Via: instagram.com[/caption]

Breastfeeding is exhausting. While it's good for the baby, physically, it literally drains you out. And when you continue it even after your baby has grown into a toddler, you are definitely one determined mama.

Page Rose (@motherofbabies) nails this extended breastfeeding with a beautiful picture. As she holds her 28-month-old child and nurses her, she recalls upon her breastfeeding journey and how she was able to have a letdown even when she thought she was running dry. That’s how amazing a mother’s body is. It knows what her baby wants. She says she may wean her daughter off the breast in a few weeks, but I am sure that this picture will always remind her of all the struggles and special moments she and her little miss have shared together.

11 The mom with a cause

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="700"] Via: instagram.com[/caption]

While she is obviously breastfeeding her beautiful daughter in the privacy of her home, it's clear from the ease and the smile on her face that if she needed to, she would definitely have no problem nursing her child in public as well. Just look at her daughter’s eyes. She is so satisfied and happy! Instagram user, @mrskTamayo, specifically mentions that the picture is for breastfeeding awareness month. She sure is a mama with a cause. I hope other moms get inspired by this.

10 The no-nonsense mom

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="700"] Via: instagram.com[/caption]

@Boo.bsmoothie is a real badass. She is effing confident and knows damn straight how to tackle onlookers. The way she is looking at the mirror and holding her baby with confidence, we know this is one no-nonsense mama. Her description in the picture is worth a mention here as well. “Yes breastfeeding is cool. It is empowering. It can make a women feel sexy. It is natural and what the boobs are intended for. No, we won't apologise for feeding our babies with our bodies. No we don't care if it makes you feel uncomfortable.”

I love every bit of this picture, as well as her words. Breasts are for breastfeeding. Period! It's about time we get over the over-sexualization of breasts and start thinking of the pure thing they are intended to do.

9 The I-can-nurse-anywhere mom

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="700"] Via: instagram.com[/caption]

Have you ever nursed your baby in an open car trunk? No? Well, this @babywearingdoula takes “feed your baby anytime anywhere” quite literally. I love how happy and at ease she looks in this picture. “Feeding with love, #normalize breastfeeding” is all she has to say. I think these few words hit straight to the point, clearly showing how strongly she feels for breastfeeding.

Do you know what the best part of this picture is? The filter used here. Black and white pictures generally make us think of things of the past. Like memories and stuff. How fitting it is! Your breastfeeding journey with your little one is for such a small span of time that it becomes a nostalgia forever. I bet this picture is going to end up framed in her bedroom wall as a souvenir from her breastfeeding days.

8 The live in the moment mom

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="700"] Via: instagram.com[/caption]

Instagram user, @Jhonsonjewel, describes this picture of hers as her favourite moment to date. We get it. Sand, sun, beach, and baby! What is there not to like about this picture? And the fact that she is nursing her baby is just that perfect touch for a stunning photograph. She is so in the moment that she doesn’t care if her or her baby’s faces show up in the camera or not.

It is her way of indicating how feeding her child and enjoying every bit of it is more important to her than worrying about who is looking at them, or what other’s might think. People are never going to stop judging breastfeeding mothers. So, I say live in the moment like this mom and relish it forever.

7 The breastfeed everywhere mom

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="700"] Via: instagram.com[/caption]

Breastfeed everywhere. This is what @briespuck has to say as she clicks a picture of her and her baby latched on to her chest. She is beautiful, she is strong, and she is telling all the mothers out there to breastfeed everywhere. I love her already! People really wouldn’t mess with her. She knows her rights and she acts on it well. And hey, did you look at that cute romper and the bow her baby is wearing? Totally out of subject, I know but it is just too cute to ignore.

I say do what this mom says. Breastfeed literally everywhere. In private, in public, at the park, or even in a car trunk like the mom above. Whenever and wherever your baby wants it. Just do it so much so that it becomes a norm.

6 The fearless mom

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="700"] Via: instagram.com[/caption]

This picture was probably taken in a park. Going for a walk in a nearby park postpartum is probably the best way to get some exercise done and spend some quality time with your baby as well. But what if the baby is suddenly hungry in the park with all the people around? Why, of course, you tend to the baby, right? You nurse your baby and it doesn't matter about where you're at or the people around you. This is exactly what @cloverkendall did here. And why not? We eat whenever and wherever we are hungry, and bottle-fed babies are given a bottle wherever they want it, so why should the breastfed babies be denied of it? Keep milking mama. You are an inspiration!

Hey wait! Is the baby posing there? It sure looks like it. What a cute, camera-loving baby!

5 The regal mom

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="700"] Via: instagram.com[/caption]

@sisi_yemmie is a lifestyle blogger mom from Nigeria who still breastfeeds her 15-month-old son. She says people think she should have weaned by now. Being a mother myself, after 11 months of breastfeeding, I have received all sorts of unsolicited advice about how I should start weaning already and about how I may not be producing enough milk, so why bother? But guess what? We are mothers and we know what is best for our babies.

If that is not enough, this momma plays well by throwing the WHO card right on their face! And that tiara! Just adds the regal touch to her personality that she already emanates through her words. Every mother deserves one. Way to go mamma!

4 The confident mom

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="700"] Via: instagram.com[/caption]

Kelly Oshay, popularly known as @Kelloggg on Instagram, says she has been on the breastfeeding journey since September 2012 with a short six month break in between of having her kids. While it may seem pretty exhausting to many of you, she agrees that even though lending her body to another human being is tiring, the love that passes back and forth in these nursing moments is beyond words.

Oshay is so downright confident about her breastfeeding decision that she says she is sure anybody who has known her even moderately has probably seen her breastfeeding. She doesn’t like to cover up and the picture perfectly tells you why. That connection that we see there between the mom and the baby is magical! That look in the eye makes all the hardships of motherhood worthwhile.

3 The lucky mom

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="700"] Via: instagram.com[/caption]

This picture really brings a smile on my face. While Laura Johnson AKA @wala.bear is busy taking the brelfie to normalize breastfeeding, the baby thinks that his mom must be tired and probably thirsty with all the clicking and all. So he offers his juice-filled sippy cup to her mom. How sweet! Breastfeeding really makes us thirsty (and sleepy, too).

Had it been me, I would have literally washed that juice down within seconds because really, every time I start nursing my baby, I realize I forgot to bring a bottle along and then have to wait either for someone to show up or for the nursing session to end. This momma is really lucky! She got the cutest little mama’s boy there.

2 The fitness-lovin' mom

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="700"] Via: instagram.com[/caption]

This fitness-lovin' mama (@_nadinmuller) clicks a brelfie in her gym to support breastfeeding and create awareness. It is such a happy picture of her nursing her 10-month-old and looking at the baby with love in her eyes. That smile is contagious, isn’t it?

She has beautifully said everything about the subject in such few words. She says that it is completely a mother’s choice whether to breastfeed and no matter how she decides to nurture her child, it is always done with endless love and that is what matters the most. There is really no better way to tell people to back off and let the mom and the baby be.

1 The sassy mom

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Via: instagram.com[/caption]

Okay, so this isn't a picture of a real being, but this drawing of a brelfie is a cool one, I must say. Do I really need to add anything here? Doesn’t the finger say it all? From the cool heart-shaped glasses, the tattoo on the right arm, and the finger of course, everything about this picture is sassy, just as the name of this super cool mama on Instagram is: @sassywassee

She mentions directly that this goes out to all the sensitive and ignorant people who cannot wrap their heads around the fact that she continues to breastfeed her 15-month-child. Wow! Extended breastfeeding really bothers people, doesn’t it? Well, if it does, we know what to do.
