When we were kids, waking up in the morning was one of the most exciting things in the world because it meant we got to eat our favorite cereal and watch Spongebob Squarepants. The show was full of interesting, hilarious, and unusual characters. Aside from Spongebob and Patrick, a few of our other favorites were Sandy Cheeks (the underwater squirrel), Pearl (the spoiled teenage whale - who was also Mr. Krabs's daughter, which made no sense but hey, we were kids so we rolled with it), and of course, Squidward Tentacles. The sarcastic, slightly depressed, self-piteous, turquoise resident of Bikini Bottom. I personally feel that the older we become the more relatable Squidward is to us. Don't believe me? Well, here are the memes to prove it.

15 Just 5 More Minutes...

After a late night of binge watching Netflix, studying, or doing whatever it is that keeps us up, early mornings hit us like a 500-ton truck. When the time comes to rise and shine, sometimes we decide to rise and go back to sleep instead. Snoozing our morning alarm clocks for five more minutes, no, ten more minutes, ahhhh twenty more minutes, is what we do best. When we finally do manage to get ourselves out of bed, the consequences we suffer like missing a bus, getting to work late, and having to skip breakfast (the horror!) make us question whether or not it was worth it to sleep in in the first place. On the other hand, who can blame us for wanting to get a little extra sleep? That's why they call it beauty sleep which is needed every now and then.

14 When Something Really Great Happens But You're Too Sarcastic To Care

What was that? You just got promoted? You got a raise? You finally bought those sneakers you've been saving up for for months? Well woo-hoo for you.

Okay, so we aren't actually this bitter when someone we care for tells us a story about a wonderful thing that has happened to them. Most times their success makes us happy and we are genuinely congratulative when they share great news with us, but sometimes we get into an extremely sarcastic mood. Sarcasm is like a cold or flu that we can’t help ourselves from catching, except we never get rid of it. Once we catch it, it becomes engrained within us forever, written in stone, permanent. Is this a bad thing? That's up to you to decide.

13 When The Mirror Says 'Damn, You Hot' And The Camera Says 'Damn, You Not'

How great is it when you finally find the time to get yourself all primped and prettied up for a night out. This is especially liberating after weeks of rushing out of the house early in the morning with bags under your eyes, hair un-styled, and a weird outfit you randomly threw together.

When we finally get the alone time to carefully pick out our outfits, style our, hair and if you're a girl, put on makeup, it's absolutely lovely. Naturally, in the narcissistic society we live in, when we look good our first instinct is to whip out our phone and take a selfie. The not so lovely thing about this is the stark difference in appearance we see in our mirror versus our phone's camera. In the mirror we always look 10/10. On camera..uh, not so much. Why is this? Doesn't it make you wonder, what we actually look like? Is it the image we see in the mirror or the image we see on camera? Mind. Blown.

12 The Quarter Life Crisis

Family dinners can get awkward when relatives we don't really know (or even like for that matter) decide to ask us what our five-year plan after graduation is. While the reaction in our head kinda resembles the thing we see Squidward doing here, what we really do is make up a well articulated story about our "plan," our hopes, our dreams and our aspirations.

Even though some of us have an idea of what we want to do with our lives, we never truly know where life is going to take us. I think Leonardo DiCaprio said it best in legendary Titanic dinner scene; "I love waking up in the morning not knowing what's gonna happen or who I'm gonna meet, where I'm gonna wind up." The gist of his speech is pretty much this: who knows what opportunities will come our way in the future. More importantly, who knows which one's we'll take. The one's we do are the one's that shape us and our future anyhow. Tell that to uncle Bob the next time he interrogates you at Thanksgiving dinner.

11 When You Fail So Bad At Customer Service

Customer service jobs are much more difficult than the people working them get credit for. Props to all of you who deal with customers on the daily and manage to meet their, sometimes, difficult and seemingly impossible demands. You guys rock and deserve a medal of honor, either that or one million dollars in cash. I'm serious.

While some people are gifted with exceptional customer service skills, others completely suck. Squidward, for example, is a bit of a train wreck. If you don't like being social, if you get annoyed easily and are just plain rude, DON'T work in customer service! It's common sense. Why would you do that to yourself and the people around you? If you feel like you are Squidward in this situation, maybe it's time to find a new job.

10 When You Have Five Midterms Scheduled, 10 Assignments Due, And 20 Mental Breakdowns

Welcome to the life of l'étudiant, a monochromatic silent film filled with stress, tears, sweat and blood.

Having a million things to do at the same time at all hours of the day - without time to do so much as take a breath - is pure stress many of us students go through. It is so stressful in fact, that we often find ourselves contemplating why we were cursed with such misery to begin with. Arms desperately raised in the air and tears flowing ever so slightly - yup that's us. If you're a student, I think it's safe to say Squidward's emotional despair is relatable to us here. If you aren't a student, the next time you see someone with a heavy-looking backpack on, you can remember this meme and sympathize with them a little bit more.

9 What You Want To Say When You Speak To Someone With The IQ Of A Rock

Nothing is more irritating than having a conversation with someone who can barely understand the conversation in the first place. Talking to this person is so bad that you would actually do anything to stop the conversation from continuing. You would even choose to feel physical pain because you can no longer take the mental toll this person's blank stare is causing on your brain.

As you might remember from the show itself, this unfortunate situation happens to Squidward more often than he likes, mostly when he talks to Spongebob. Throughout the years he has mastered his go to escape, knocking himself out with a bat. I sincerely hope you know no one annoying enough to make you want to do this. And if you do, it's time to cut ties.

8 Pass The Advil, Please

I think the saying goes "another day, another dollar," but this is obviously a Squidward remix. Who can blame him for being so stressed out all the time? Let's be real, he works with Spongebob Squarepants who is much too cheery for him to handle. Heck, he was even too cheery for us on a Monday morning before school. We've probably all had one of these extremely stressful days. They're the one's that give us a migrane before they even start. The worst thing is waking up knowing you're headed in for one of these long, long, Advil filled days. Once you're in it, it's like a never ending blackhole of misery.

Okay, but on the bright side, when these awful days do end, you find yourself in bed staring at your ceiling fan actually relaxing and it's a huge weight off your shoulders.

7 When You Have Serious Regrets About Starting Your Day

Some days are better spent in bed. When crappy things happen to us as we go about our daily routines it makes us wish we stayed home where our beds are. In comparison to the harsh, cold outside world, our beds are a blankety oasis of comfort and safety. Our beds are in a special place far, far away from the rest of the world and all of the crazy people in it.

When we were little kids, everything was playful, fascinating, and exciting. Even our bad days were our good days but the older we get the less fascinated we become by the now seemingly mundane things that excited us as children. Gosh, how depressing is this? Doesn't it kinda make you wish you stayed in bed today. Sorry to rain on your parade but if it's any consolation I'm tucking myself in right now.

6 Quite Possibly The Scariest Experience Of Our Lives

What's scarier than walking through a spiderweb? Or completely blanking on a math test? That's right! It's the feeling you get when you reach into your pocket in hopes of checking your phone and realizing that your phone is nowhere to be found. Nope, it's not in your pocket, not in your bag, where, oh where could it be?

The momentary mini heart attacks we have when we can't find our phones are too much to handle; mostly because the thought of losing our phones is terrifying. We have our whole life on those things! If you think about it, it's crazy how much we rely on technology for our own self-preservation. If we lose our phones, there goes our carefully selected and edited collection of photos for future Instagram posts (darn!), our long list of contacts and the to-do list's, and reminders we type out for ourselves on the notes app. This is a reminder to back up your phone. The next time you find yourself reaching into your pocket only to realize it isn't there, at least you'll be able to maintain a tiny bit of sanity.

5 Hello, My Name Is Self-Pity And Despair

If there's anyone who is likely to remain forever alone it's probably Squidward. His self piteous and desperate attitude doesn't exactly make him lovable. (Not to mention the sounds he makes when he's playing the clarinet.) In fact, I think it squid-WARDS away anyone who might show even the smallest degree of interest in him in the first place. It's sad but true.

So, if you're feeling a little bit depressed about your future love prospects, lighten up. Sometimes we aren't very lucky in the whole love game-thing but, that only means our shining moment is right around the corner. Remember one thing, no one wants to be with a melancholy molly so smile your lovely smile and enjoy life as it comes at you.

4 When You Meet Someone New And Try To Be Your Best Self

Meeting someone new is an interesting process, especially if you kinda start crushing on them after a while of friendship. Naturally when this happens, you try to put your best foot forward and you become your shiniest self. You don't let the other person see your quirks or flaws right away until you get comfortable with them. There is a moment and time for quirks to be revealed and that is when you know for sure the person you are revealing them to is awesome enough to handle them. If they can't handle them, well, then they're kinda boring don't you agree?

Now, if you are more of a direct person (like myself) go on ahead and show them who you are right away. I encourage it. If they don't like you, oh well. It's their problem, not yours. They aren't perfect either and thats a straight up fact so there really shouldn't be any judgement.

3 When You Slip Through Life Unnoticed

Depending on who you are, this can be a good thing or bad thing. For some people, the feeling of invisibility is like a cool superpower. For others, it's the worst feeling in the world. This meme reminds me of texting friends in a group chat and having all of your comments and carefully thought out jokes ignored. Where is the talent recognition? I'm basically as funny as Robin Williams and Chris Rock combined! For god's sake, notice me!

Obviously, Squiddy hates the fact that he is still practically invisible as a musician (he plays the clarinet). So much so that he doesn't even try to hide his pure disappointment. Instead, it shines through his very core, it seeps out of his pores and into the world for all of us to see.

2  Wake Me Up When I Care, Which Is Never

Wake me up when September ends? More like wake me up when I care. Sorry Green Day, but Squidward has a point. Now, I'm not saying we are the kinds of people who don't care about anything at all. In fact, when we become invested in something or someone - we turn into some of the most caring people on earth. With this said, we are so caring that we end up putting our heart and soul into all that we do to achieve our goals and make other people happy. It's just that, sometimes sleeping is more important than well...the things that don't matter to us, duh. So really, I guess life is all about finding your passion. The thing that drives you. But until then you can just wake us up when we care.

1 This Is What I've Been Saying The Whole Time!

Like I said, Squidward is one of the most relatable characters on TV. The older we get the more understandable he becomes. When we were kids we questioned, why is Spongebob's laughter frustrating him so much? Why does Squidward hate working at the Krusty Krab? Why is he so impatient when he's around other people? It all makes sense now. The life experiences we've gained and the many wacko's we've met along the way explain it all.

One statement I can most certainly agree with is that 90s babies grew up in the golden age of cartoons. This is because the producers of shows like Spongebob brought us characters like Squidward, who we could enjoy as little kids and look back on as adults saying, "yeah, I can relate." Spongebob continues to be a great show today (loved by many children and probably tons of adults, too) and will go down in cartoon history as one of the classics.
