Scarlett Johansson is one of the most talented actresses working in Hollywood today. Johansson constantly seems to find herself in starring roles that have secured her position as a top draw at the box office and when she’s not doing that, she still finds time to work on passion projects, such as her screenwriting and musical career. The Black Widow actress has been a Hollywood fixture long before she ever even hit her 20s, starring in movies that one could never know she was a part of, unless they dug deep into her IMDB page. Her rise to stardom has been anything but simple and while people may think they know everything about the gun-slinging Avenger, this enigmatic actress still has much more in store for her passionate fans.

15 She lost the role in 'The Parent Trap' remake to Lindsay Lohan

The Parent Trap gave us a lot of firsts. It was the first time audiences saw a movie featuring twins, which didn’t star Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and it was also the first time the world was introduced to Lindsay Lohan. At the time, Lindsay was relatively unknown and if it weren’t for a last minute casting change, she would have most likely remained that way. Originally, the role of Hallie Parker and Annie James was set to go to Scarlett Johansson and it’s easy to see why. She was cute, wholesome and just the right age for Disney’s remake. Luckily for Johansson, this slight setback in her burgeoning acting career didn’t stop her for too long and she was eventually able to find success in many other films.

14 She has a twin brother

This is the second mention of twins on this list, but this time it doesn’t come in the form of fictional twin sisters in The Parent Trap. This time, it’s about Scarlett Johansson’s real twin brother, Hunter Johansson. Scarlett was born just three minutes before Hunter and they have remained close their entire life. While Hunter isn’t known in the Hollywood realm like his twin sister, he has blazed his own path in the world of politics, serving as an advisor on President Barack Obama’s 2008 election campaign. Luckily for these twins, they share a similar passion for politics. Johansson is a vocal democrat who has shown massive support for Obama throughout his presidency.

13 She hates the name “Scar Jo”

If you happen to see Scarlett Johansson walking down the streets of New York or Los Angeles and are hoping to get her attention, we have some advice for you: don’t call her 'Scar Jo!' While the actress is commonly referred to by this short form version of her name, she has gone on record to say that she feels the name is “lazy, flippant and there is something kind of violent about it.” It is going to be an insurmountable task to nip this nickname in the bud for the successful actress, but we are happy to know that we won’t be making the mistake of calling her Scar Jo, again.

12 She was the highest-grossing actor of 2016

Scarlett Johansson’s résumé is all over the place. She has performed in successful indie movies like Don Jon and Ghost World, but she has also reached the tallest peak of the blockbuster mountain, in her re-occurring role as Black Widow in the Marvel cinematic universe. Her success hasn’t come in vain, as Forbes has listed her as the highest-grossing actor of 2016, with a whopping 1.2 billion in ticket sales. You read that right, we said highest-grossing actor, not actress. Scarlett’s ability to draw at the box office beat out her Avengers co-stars, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr., as well as fellow actresses, Margot Robbie and Amy Adams. We can’t wait to see what Scarlett has in store for us next.

11 She’s going to direct a movie

So, if you’re keeping score, Scarlett Johansson has released two full-length studio albums, all while becoming the highest grossing actor of 2016. There is, however, one more talent to add to her ever-expanding résumé: Director. In 2015, Johansson was shopping a reel to buyers at the Cannes Film Festival for a film she seeks to helm, called Summer Crossing. Summer Crossing is an adaptation of Truman Capote’s first novel that was written in the 1940s and Scarlett Johansson has penned the screenplay for the film adaptation with her writing partner, Tristine Skyler. While the film has been in development since 2011, the project still appears to be a go, despite never receiving an official release date. Knowing the ambitious actress, the film should be a faithful and entertaining adaption of the beloved novel.

10 She’ll never date someone under 30 again

Lost in Translation was a breakout film for actress Scarlett Johansson. Not only was she starring in a role opposite Bill Murray, she was also only 17 years old at the time the movie was filmed. The young actress learned a lot about her craft from veteran actor Bill Murray, but she also learned something else in the process. Soon after filming for the movie wrapped, Scarlett vowed that she would never date anyone who was under the age of 30 again—a bold statement for the very young actress. She made good on her word and soon found herself in a relationship with Benicio Del Toro—a man that has 17 years on her.

9 She starred in Home Alone 3

When you think of the wildly successful film franchise Home Alone, you most likely have fond memories of Macaulay Culkin taking out two bumbling burglars in New York and Chicago. What you wouldn’t think of is the final movie in the series: Home Alone 3. Nobody could blame you for that, though—Home Alone 3 was pretty awful compared to the two films that came before it. Home Alone 3 did have one redeeming factor, though, and that was Scarlett Johansson’s performance as Molly Pruitt. While this isn’t a role Scarlett Johansson is often remembered for—likely due to Home Alone 3 being a huge flop at the box office—it was a great start to her quickly blossoming acting career.

8 Johansson attended the same school as Carrie Fisher

Becoming an actress is something Scarlett decided to pursue at an extremely young age. In her early teens, Johansson attended the Manhattan Professional Children’s School, a non-profit academy founded all the way back in 1914, which prepares young artists for college. The school focuses on several different art forms that range from dance, theater, literature, film and fashion. Obviously, Johansson went to pursue her film career and she certainly wasn’t alone in her pursuit. Graduates from the Manhattan Professional Children’s school included the likes of Sarah Michelle Gellar, Christina Ricci, Diane Lane and the late, great Carrie Fisher (just to name a few). Ms. Johansson fits right in among the school’s illustrious alumni.

7 She is a lefty

If you happen to see a picture of Scarlett Johansson signing an autograph on the red carpet, you might notice something that sets her apart from most people. We’re not talking about her glowing skin or ravishing appearance, we’re talking about the fact that Johansson is left-handed. While being left-handed is a trait she shares with only 10% of the world’s population, several of her other celebrity peers happen to posses this trait, as well. Celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Julia Roberts, Tom Cruise, Robert De Niro and Hugh Jackman are also bonafide lefties. We didn’t need to learn that Scarlett Johansson was left-handed to believe that she was special!

6 She has released two folk music albums

While it seems that Scarlett Johansson can fit into just about any acting role put in front of her, it may come as a surprise to learn that she has also recorded several singing projects in the last few years. Johansson has released two studio albums (Anywhere I Lay My Head and Break Up), three extended plays and four singles. While the reviews for her musical work have been mediocre to average, we have to admire the fact that someone with such a busy acting schedule was able to spend so much time on a passion project. We might not see Scarlett Johansson on Billboard's Hot 100 anytime soon, but something tells us that won’t stop the ambitious starlet.

5 Scarlett is a huge fan of jazz music

It’s no secret that Scarlett Johansson is a huge fan of music—she has recorded and released two solo folk albums, all while maintaining a successful acting career. What may come as a surprise is that Scarlett prefers to listen to classic jazz music. She enjoys incredible artists like Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, Chet Baker, Anita O’Day and even Duke Ellington. The actress isn’t the only one in her family that enjoys a classic jazz tune. In fact, rather than singing a boring old lullaby to her daughter Rose, Johansson prefers to ease her baby to sleep by singing some of her favorite classic jazz tunes. Maybe new parents should take a tip from the actress. We mean, she is a superhero, after all.

4 She is the inspiration behind a Looney Tunes character

Have you ever wondered what Scarlett Johansson would look like if she resided in the cartoon world of the Looney Tunes? Well, you won’t see Scarlett Johansson, but you will see STARLETT Johansson. When Looney Tunes was seeking inspiration for a recurring celebrity character on their TV show, they chose Scarlett Johansson. Aside from sharing a nearly identical name, Scarlett and Starlett share a head full of ravishing, red hair and voluptuous curves. Daffy Duck spends the majority of his time trying to woo the actress and who could blame him? Poor Daffy doesn’t have too much luck, though, and is constantly swatted away by Starlett’s hulking bodyguard. Coincidentally, Starlet’s bodyguard is named Bruce Banner (just kidding).

3 She’s an art school reject

When you think of Scarlett Johansson, a word that probably doesn’t come to mind is 'rejection,' but that was exactly what happened to the young actress when she applied to the Tisch School of the Arts, in New York City. While the reason for the rejection is unknown, it did come as a blessing in disguise for the young actress. While Johansson wasn’t able to practice her craft at the respected art school, she was able to perform in movies at a very young age—an experience that offered its own unique form of learning for Johansson. Something tells us that if the Tisch School of the Arts had the chance to reconsider Scarlett’s application now, they may have made a different choice.

2 Scarlett has been smoking since she was 15 years old

We’ve all seen Scarlett Johansson light up a cigarette once or twice on the silver screen, but not many people would expect that the stunning actress would take the bad habit off screen, too. This nasty habit is nothing new for Johansson, as she has been smoking cigarettes since she was just 15 years old. While she isn’t proud of the habit, she has openly stated that she just can’t seem to kick cigarettes. Scarlett has been romantically involved with smokers and non-smokers alike—most notably, her ex-husband Ryan Reynolds, who didn’t support her bad habit and fellow smoker Sean Penn, who she also dated for a period of time. Let’s hope she is able to kick this bad habit as soon as possible. We’re rooting for you, Scarlett!

1 Black Widow was pregnant

Avengers: Age of Ultron was a summer blockbuster of epic proportions that featured Scarlett Johansson’s character, Black Widow, in all her glory. Black Widow had a little secret during the production of the film, though, and it came in the form of a baby bump. While most actresses would choose to sit on the sidelines during their pregnancy, Johansson chose to continue her gun slinging and avenging without a hitch. Black Widow remained a central focus of the film and Johansson’s pregnancy was well-hidden by clever shots and precision CGI. The cast of Avengers certainly didn’t have an issue with their cast mate’s pregnancy. Robert Downey Jr. was quoted saying that her pregnancy has made the process “a little less grueling for everybody.”
