Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, otherwise known as J2. Ever heard of them? If you're a fan of the the CW's hit series Supernatural, then you most definitely have. Those two guys wriggled their way into our hearts in episode one, and 12 seasons later, we love them more than ever. Sam and Dean. They're a team. Just a couple of guys saving people and trying to do the right thing. What's not to love?

What is it about the two of them that makes them so special to the fans? How have they managed to star in such a long-running, successful TV series? Just why exactly are these two goons so lovable? Let's explore this topic in-depth by checking out these 15 reasons why Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are friendship goals.

15 They hit it off right from the start

Legend has it, these two got along right from the get go. Funnily enough, it seems their friendship was meant to be. During an interview at one convention, Jared revealed that, unlike other auditions, where actors line up and wait for their chance to read for a role, he and Jensen were the only two people to show up and try out for the parts of Sam and Dean. And, because they were the only guys there, they got the roles.

According to Jensen, however, it wasn't always smooth sailing. He admits that during season one, he and Jared got in a heated argument. But, they both realized they would need to be friends in order for Supernatural to work, and came together to make that happen. Jensen says that's the last time they ever fought.

14 They're just a couple of tall, handsome Texans

Jensen says he and Jared are both on the same wavelength. They weren't interested in bickering over small details. They just wanted to get along. And, considering they both have so much in common, it's easy to see why they're such good friends. They're both tall. They both hit the genetic jackpot. And they're both from Texas. They've stumbled upon a winning formula.

Here are the stats. Jared Padalecki: born July 19, 1982 in San Antonio, 6 feet, 4 inches tall. Jensen Ackles: born March 1, 1978 in Dallas, 6 feet, 1 inch tall. They're so similar, it's like they were born to play a couple of rugged, handsome brothers on a TV show. We don't know what they're doing down there in Texas to make their actors so cute and talented. But, whatever it is, they're doing it right.

13 They were roommates for a while

Filming for Supernatural is done in Vancouver, British Columbia, and lasts for nine months. Canada's a long way from home for these two Texas boys, so they decided to stick together and they became roommates. According to Jensen, the two were together all day, every day for a good chunk out of the year. He also says that even when they didn't have to hang out together, they still found themselves wanting to.

Jensen and Jared were together constantly in the early days of of the show, and bonded a lot during that period. The depth of their relationship is visible on screen, as well as off. All you have to do is watch a few episodes of Supernatural to know that these guys genuinely care about each other, and it's not just an act.

12 They won a bar fight, Sam and Dean Winchester style

If you've seen season two of Supernatural, you undoubtedly noticed Sam's arm was in a cast. Turns out, he broke his wrist in a bar fight. Apparently, Jensen and Jared went to a bar one night, and they were recognized by a girl in the bar as being the good-looking guys from TV. Well, the guys that the girl was with mistook her meaning, and thought she meant J2 had been harassing her, so they started throwing punches. Unfortunately for them, they picked the wrong guys to mess with.

Using the martial arts training they'd learned from their time on the set of Supernatural, Jared and Jensen quickly put those punks in their place, and even sent a couple of them to the hospital. Wow. They really are the Winchester brothers.

11 They were in each other's weddings

As if their friendship couldn't possibly get any cuter, Jensen and Jared were groomsmen in each other's weddings. When Jensen Ackles married fellow actor and former costar, Danneel Harris, in 2010, Jared was there. And, when Jared married former Supernatural costar, Genevieve Cortese, Jensen was there.

They were even there to watch their families grow. On March 19, 2012, Jared and Genevieve's son, Thomas Colton Padalecki, was born. A year later, on May 30, 2013, Jensen and Danneel's daughter, Justice Jay Ackles, was born. Later that year, on December 22, Austin Shepherd Padalecki was born. Then, on December 2, 2016, the Ackles's twins were born: a boy, named Zeppelin Bram, and a girl named Arrow Rhodes. And, on March 17, 2017, the Padalecki's welcomed their first daughter, Odette Elliot. Gee whiz, J2 It's like you're trying to out-kid each other.

10 Their families hang out together

You just thought it couldn't get any cuter than Jensen and Jared being in each other's wedding. Ha! Well, the joke's on you, because it turns out, it actually can get cuter. Much cuter. Like, super, incredible, mega cuter, times infinity. Okay, are you ready for this? So, not only are Jensen and Jared besties in real life, their wives and kids enjoy hanging out with each other, too. Aaaaand, cue the *squeeee!*

The Ackles and the Padleckis frequently get together for major holidays and events, like Christmas and the Fourth of July. Jensen and Jared, along with their gorgeous wives, got together at the Women's World Cup in 2015. Oh, yeah, and their precious little kiddos play well together, too, as you can see in this picture, which is basically cuteness overload.

9 They help each other out

Supernatural would be a total flop were it not for Sam and Dean. And, as we know, Sam and Dean wouldn't even exist if Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles hadn't shown up to audition. They take their parts very seriously. So seriously, in fact, that sometimes, we can't tell when they're being themselves and when they're being Sam and Dean.

Of course, Jared and Jensen aren't really Sam and Dean. No, wait. Yes they are. They may goof around a whole lot more when they're not filming new episodes of the best show ever, but they're still basically the Winchester brothers. Whether it's Dean saving Sam from a some ghouls, or Jared teaching Jensen how to use the Twitter, these two adorable dorks are always there to help each other out.

8 They're not afraid to show off their silly side

Nobody likes a character who's super serious all of the time. It gets old. Even a show that's dealing with weighty issues—like abandonment, death, loss and so on—needs to be injected with a little levity. No audience ever stopped watching a TV show because it was funny.

And, that's another reason why Supernatural is such a hit. Sure, it's serious. Very serious. It's got more drama than we fans know what to do with (no, seriously, someone please help us deal with all of these feels). But, it's not all serious. The drama is heavily peppered with hilarious one-liners and running jokes. Jared and Jensen's acting skills are phenomenal, but it's their comedic timing, and fearlessness when it comes to showing off their silly side, that makes the show work so well.

7 Their Twitter conversations are always LOL-worthy

Like we said, Jared and Jensen aren't one-trick drama ponies. They know how to be funny, too. Not only are they tall and talented and good-looking and from Texas, they're also incredibly funny, even without a script. Gaw lee, you two. Save a little talent for the rest of us, would ya? Oh, no. We're only kidding. You just keep doing what you're doing. You guys are so cute.

You know J2's friendship is legit because whenever they're together, they're always goofing off. Whether they're on stage at a fan convention, or in their trailers between takes on the set of Supernatural, or on Twitter, they always know just how to tease each other, and it's always LOL-worthy. And, don't even get us started on the Supernatural gag reels. Sigh. Could we love them more?

6 They turned down other roles so they could stay on 'Supernatural'

Another reason why we love Jensen and Jared so much is because they appreciate the fandom. When they're not on set or spending time with their family, they're meeting fans, answering questions and taking pictures at conventions. They bend over backwards to make Supernatural lovers happy, and that's special, because not every actor would do the same.

Jared and Jensen are so dedicated to remaining with the show that they've turned down other roles just so they could stay on. Jared was offered the lead role in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, but declined the offer to stay on with Supernatural. Additionally, Jensen was offered the roles of both Captain America and Hawkeye, but he said no, too. They don't need spandex and capes. They're already superheroes.

5 They even watch the show together

Look at them. Look. You just look at this picture of Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles watching TV and drinking beer, and then try to tell us that they aren't really Sam and Dean Winchester. Go ahead. Try it. We'll wait. Yeah, that's what we thought. You can't do it, because it can't be done. Jared really is Sam, and Jensen really is Dean. They are legit Winchesters, and if you try to say otherwise, we will salt and burn you, b*tch.

So, yeah. Jared and Jensen get together to watch new episodes of Supernatural. They also team up to tease the other actors of CW shows via hilarious Twitter exchanges. Oh, you crazy kids. This fandom wouldn't be half as fun if it weren't for you.

4 They're always pranking each other

Friends may be friends, but they're not best friends unless they mercilessly pull pranks on each other just for fun. And if Jared and Jensen don't fit that bill, then we don't know who does. They've pulled more pranks on each other than we can count. We bet they can't even remember all they've done to each other.

Switching prop alcohol out for real alcohol is just one of the millions of pranks they've played on each other. But, best of all is when they team up to prank other people, like when they pranked costar Misha Collins. During Misha's first time directing, they pranked him by: leaving muck in the pockets of his director's chair, throwing water balloons at him and nailing him in the face with a cream pie.

3 They support each other through thick and thin

Dean Winchester wins the award for best big brother of the year. He would do anything for his little brother, Sammy. The same rings true for Jared and Jensen. They may not be slaying monsters that go bump in the night in real life, but they still have each other's back.

During filming one day, Jared had an anxiety attack. After meeting with a doctor on the set, he was diagnosed with clinical depression. He's been very open with his struggle, which isn't always easy to do. At one point, he had to cancel upcoming conventions due to exhaustion. And, even when he was down, Jensen was there for him, tweeting: "get some rest, my brother. I got ur back... always." No, we're not crying, you're crying!

2 They save the world on screen and off

In an effort to help others dealing with depression, Jared launched his Always Keep Fighting campaign, hoping to raise money for To Write Love On Her Arms, a nonprofit organization that supports people suffering from depression, self-harm, addiction and suicidal thoughts. Naturally, Jensen teamed up with Jared in this endeavor, and the campaign sold over 40,000 t-shirts. Jensen has also raised money for the Down Syndrome Guild of Dallas, to help fund research, as his nephew has the syndrome.

So, Jared and Jensen may not really be cutting the heads off of vampires and shooting shotgun shells full of salt into unruly ghosts. But, they're still tackling the real-life monsters that we all struggle with. Add "charitable and all-around good guys" to the long list of why J2 are friendship goals.

1 They're brothers through thick and thin

The relationship we see between Jared and Jensen on TV isn't just acting. It's the real deal. They may not be blood brothers in real life, but they know that family is more than simply being related to someone. Family means you're always there for each other, no matter what. It means supporting each other through life's many trials. It means standing side by side through the sunshine and the rain.

After 12 years of filming, Jared and Jensen's friendship has endured many struggles, and many joys, too. They've fought vampires, defeated ghosts and killed more demons than we can count. They've even conquered a few real-life monsters, too. And through it all, they've been the very best of buddies proving, once and for all, that they are the ultimate in friendship goals.
