As any One Tree Hill fan will no doubt know, during the first few episodes of the show it seemed like Sophia Bush’s character Brooke Davis was going to be a stereotypical cheerleader type. Thankfully, before too long it became clear that the character had a lot more substance than that and over time she arguably became One Tree Hill’s main character.

Of course, all good shows have to end eventually and One Tree Hill’s final episode made its broadcast debut in 2012. Clearly not someone to rest on her laurels, since then Sophia Bush has kept herself busy. With that in mind, it is time to get to this list of 16 things Sophia Bush has been up to since the end of One Tree Hill.

16 Tackled A New Medium

Obviously an established actress by the time she finished filming One Tree Hill, Sophia Bush may have been looking for a new way to flex her acting muscles at that point. After all, she would go on to star in her first and to date only music video, Passion Pit’s “Carried Away”.

15 Became A Producer

Obviously best known as an actor, some people may not realize that Sophia Bush has branched out. For example, she directed three episodes of One Tree Hill. On top of that, since One Tree Hill came to an end Sophia has executive produced more than one documentary project and the upcoming show Mother Truckers.

14 Helped Make The World A Better Smelling Place

Definitely known for her on-point fashion sense, Sophia Bush certainly has a good eye for things but you may not realize she has put her nose to work as well. After all, in 2015 she launched a fragrance line called i smell great which was designed to work all-day. In fact, Sophia told People Magazine that she and her co-founder Randi Shinder worked on getting the scents right for three years.

13 Brought Attention To Poverty

During the height of One Tree Hill’s success, Sophia Bush began to be consistently involved in a lot of charitable causes. Certainly, something she has kept up since leaving the show that made her a star behind, in 2013 Bush took part in Global Poverty Project's "Live Below the Line" campaign. On top of that, in 2017 she worked a phone to raise funds for the ACLU on Global Charity Day.

12 Taken The Wheel

For the most part, when you tune into a major movie or TV show and see characters driving, it is stunt professionals who are actually in control. However, according to what Sophia Bush told The Wrap, while working on Chicago P.D. she got to do her own driving. “They’ve all gotten to know me, and they know that I’ve become quite the amateur race car driver myself. And they let me do all of my own stunt driving on the show.”

11 Crossed Over

After Sophia Bush left One Tree Hill in the rearview mirror, it was easy to feel like she’d never reach that level of TV success again. Instead, we’d argue that she pulled off something even more impressive due to her role as Erin Lindsay. One of the lead characters in the show Chicago P.D., Sophia would also make appearances as Erin in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago Justice.

10 Became A Founding Member

As we all know, for far too long women felt powerless because so many have been silenced after suffering harassment at the hands of powerful men. Thankfully, the Time’s Up movement has helped to empower many previously silenced women. One of the first actors to embrace the movement, Sophia Bush is considered a founding member even though she didn’t create Time’s Up.

9 Starred In A Lambasted Film

Throughout Sophia Bush’s lengthy career, there is no doubt that she has proven that she has real acting chops. Of course, even Meryl Streep has starred in some real stinkers so Sophia shouldn’t feel too bad about her lead role in the movie Acts of Violence. A film that has a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a reviewer for Roger Ebert’s website even wrote that the film is “a gross, creepy and generally tacky piece of claptrap”.

8 Went Skydiving With Fans

As we touched on earlier in this list, Sophia Bush has dedicated her time and money to helping various charities during her time in the public. Another example of that, in 2013 Sophia agreed to skydive with a pair of female fans in order to raise money for I Am that Girl, a charity that empowers young girls and women.

7 Motor City Investor

Considering that Sophia Bush was born in Pasadena, California, it seems surprising that she is so passionate about another city but she co-founded Detroit Blows. Said to be an “inclusive, non-toxic salon in downtown Detroit” Sophia and best friend Nia Batts take a lot of pride in their business. If that weren’t cool enough, their salon also features a philanthropic arm named Detroit Grows, which helps other entrepreneurs invest in Detroit.

6 Suffered A Tragedy

While a lot of people paid attention to Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray’s short-lived marriage, few seemed to care when she dated former Google executive Dan Fredinburg. Together for just over a year, Sophia and Dan remained close friends, which is why she was heartbroken when he lost his life in the 2015 Nepal earthquake. Taking to Instagram to express her grief after Dan’s passing, Sophia wrote “Pieces of my heart that have broken into such tiny shards, I'll likely never find them all.”

5 Proved Her Pixar Powers

Arguably one of the most entertaining movies Pixar has ever released, 2004’s The Incredibles has remained so popular that a sequel came out in 2018. A massively successful film that made over a billion dollars at the box office, Incredibles 2 featured the voice talents of Sophia Bush in the role of an aspiring superhero named Voyd.

Back in 2013, Sophia Bush agreed to be the face of Target’s Give with Target program. In that role, she met with media entities like Marie Claire and explained that Target was giving away up to $5 million to schools. In order to decide where the money went, customers got to go on a Target website and vote for any school once a week. After that, Target gave $1 for each vote a school got once it surpassed 25.

3 Revealed Behind The Scenes Turmoil

Speaking about her experience making One Tree Hill on Ashley Graham's Pretty Big Deal podcast, Sophia Bush said: “I remember my boss kept writing scenes for me to be in my underwear”. In response, Sophia would say “I'm not doing this, this is inappropriate. Like, I don't think this is what we should be teaching 16-year-old girls”. Sadly, Sophia then revealed that her boss told her “Well you're the one with the big f--king rack everybody wants to see.”

2 Quit A Starring Role

As we touched on earlier in this list, Sophia Bush got to play the character, Erin Lindsay, in five different shows. Not only that, her work in the role received loads of praise from viewers. Despite those things, in 2017 she quit her starring role in Chicago P.D. which meant leaving the character behind. Definitely a surprising move, she later would reveal that working on the show made her “really unhappy” due to things like bad Chicago weather and allegations of verbal abuse on-set.

1 Started A Podcast

These days, it often seems like every celebrity is launching a podcast. Unlike many of her peers, however, Sophia Bush’s podcast isn’t designed to promote her more mainstream work. In fact, while speaking about her podcast Work in Progress with InStyle, Sophia said: “It is the most fulfilling and fun thing I’ve done in a long time”. Her podcast has also been described as being made up of “frank, funny, personal, professional, and sometimes even political conversations”.
