17 WWE Stars That Use A Fake Hometown

Along with names, WWE also switches a performer's hometown at times. A lot of that has to do with the wrestler's gimmick. In certain instances, a wrestler’s real-life identity just doesn’t match with their persona. Just imagine labeling Jinder Mahal as being from Calgary, Alberta or even Kane from Spain! We just can’t, given their in-ring gimmicks.

In this article, we’ll take a look at 17 names WWE decided to use a fake hometown on. Some are more obvious than others – in some cases, the WWE star might be using a modified name as well. Who knows, maybe one day some of these wrestlers might finally convert to their real place of birth!

17 Lacey Evans (Parris Island, South Carolina)

via Forbes

She’s the biggest heel on-screen at the moment, however in real life, the opposite holds true. She’s a true hero of a mom that entered the military scene as a teen. In truth, Evans can be the ultimate babyface if WWE told her real story.

Instead, she’s using a different name and a totally different hometown, according to WWE she’s billed from South Carolina instead of Georgia. Her real name is actually Macey Evans.

16 Carmella (Staten Island)

via Pinterest

She made her NXT debut as a hairdresser from Staten Island, joining forces with Enzo Amore and Big Cass.

To Carmella’s credit, she’s very believable in the role – still to this day. However, if you dig a little deeper, you’ll come to realize that she was born and raised in Massachusetts, even attending University in her hometown area. She would also enjoy a run as a cheerleader for the New England Patriots.

15 Matt Riddle (Las Vegas, Nevada)

via Pinterest

Matt Riddle was allowed to keep his real name which really isn’t a surprise given the name he made for himself with the UFC, along with his stint on the indie scene.

However, what is a bit of a head-scratcher is the fact that he’s billed from Las Vegas, Nevada instead of his actual hometown of Allentown, Pennsylvania. The NXT star currently calls Florida his home today, residing in the area.

14 Toni Storm (Gold Coast, Australia)

via WWE

She discovered WWE at the age of 10 while living on the Gold Coast over in Australia. During her stint in the Mae Classic and on WWE TV, she was billed from the area.

Surprisingly, she wasn’t born there and Storm ended up in Australia because of her parents separating. The 23-year-old is actually from Auckland, New Zealand.

13 Kane (Decatur, Illinois)

via Pinterest

This one has to be the biggest surprise on the list. No, Kane isn’t from some random cemetery or his billed location of Decatur, Illinois. Heck, he’s not even from Knox County, Tennessee, the place he’s currently in charge of.

Kane is actually from Spain! Kane was born overseas while his family stayed at a US Air Force base in the area. He would grow up in Missouri, similar to the next guy on the list...

12 Randy Orton (St. Louis, Missouri)

via YouTube

He still lives in Missouri while even visiting the area's MLB team (the Cardinals) back in 2015. Orton grew up in the area, however, he was born in Knoxville, Tennessee at the start of the ‘80s.

Another little known fact, his real name is Randal Keith Orton – hence the RKO initials.

11 Jinder Mahal (Punjab, India)

via WWE

A big reason for Mahal winning the WWE Title was due to his link to India. This is reminiscent to Santino who won the IC Title during a show in Italy during his debut. Though in both cases, the WWE stars weren’t actually from the area, although WWE did make this claim.

In Jinder’s case, he was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta.

10 Tyler Breeze (Daytona Beach, Florida)

via Pinterest

For the purpose of his flamboyant gimmick, it only makes sense that Triple H changed Tyler’s hometown. He’s billed from Daytona Beach, Florida. In actuality, Tyler’s from British Columbia, Canada; he trained at the Lance Storm wrestling school prior to starting with WWE.

Emma and Peyton Royce are some of the others that joined Breeze at the school in Alberta.

9 Lana (Moscow, Russia)

via WWE

Similar to Carmella, we only know Lana as a person from her fake WWE hometown of Moscow, Russia. The biggest surprise is that Lana is from Gainesville, Florida, nowhere near Russia.

To her credit, she played the role perfectly and in fact, some fans might still assume that she’s from there. That is unless you’ve watched Total Divas and heard Lana suddenly drop the accent.

8 Sasha Banks (Boston, Massachusetts)

via YouTube

Growing up with a single mom, Sasha did a lot of moving around at a younger age before finally settling down in Boston, Mass.

Although she does reference Boston as her home – Banks wasn’t born in the area. She was actually born in Bayley’s neck of the woods over in Fairfield, California.

7 Zelina Vega (Puerto Vallarta, Mexico)

via WWE

Given that she made her managerial debut alongside Andrade, the obvious choice was to label Zelina as being from Mexico. During her earlier days with NXT, she was speaking to Almas in the dialect.

She’s originally from Queens, New York City. She got her start in the business as a teenager. Still yet to hit her 30s, she’s one of the top managers at the moment.

6 Nia Jax (San Diego, California)

via Pinterest

Prior to ending up in San Diego, Jax did some moving around, literally going across the world. She was born in Sydney, Australia (surprisingly) and was later raised in Honolulu, Hawaii.

She would take to college in San Diego and Jax thrived as a basketball player. She entered WWE’s developmental system in 2014 with no prior experience – the family bloodline did help things, however.

5 AJ Styles (Gainesville, Georgia)

via IG

We can hear the WWE ring announcers in the back of our minds labeling AJ from Gainesville, the small community with 40,000 inhabitants. In truth, that is his current home but it isn’t his place of birth.

Styles grew up in North Carolina and would attend school in South Carolina. He got his start in the industry over in Georgia.

4 Adam Cole (Panama City, Florida)

via YouTube

At the age of 30, Adam Cole is on top of the NXT mountain. It was quite the journey getting there, starting off in a small Pennsylvania town and working his way up from small indie promotions like CZW.

He’s labeled as being from Panama City Florida – currently, with NXT, he calls Coral Springs, Florida his actual home.

3 Bray Wyatt (Lafayette, Louisiana)

via IG

Given the eeriness surrounding his gimmick, it makes sense to label Bray as being from a place like Louisiana.

In his personal life, the same doesn’t hold true. He’s originally from Brooksville, Florida and he currently resides in Miami, Florida alongside his new partner JoJo Offerman. Things are finally looking up for Wyatt since the return of his new gimmick.

2 Brock Lesnar (Minneapolis, Minnesota)

via YouTube

He made his debut with WWE under a duo billed as the Minnesota Stretching Crew. WWE kept this label till this very day, even despite the fact that he moved to Canada.

Brock’s actual hometown is in South Dakota, growing up on a farm with his family. He would also attend college in South Dakota.

1 The Undertaker (Houston, Texas)

via IG

From Death Valley; that’s all we can think of when it comes to the legendary Undertaker and heck, we refuse to accept anything else.

Mark Callaway, the dude behind the gimmick is from Houston, Texas. He resides off the map these days alongside his wife Michelle McCool and daughter in Austin, Texas.
