18 Jaw-Dropping Cosplays So Good, You Won't Believe They Aren't The Real Thing

We all have our favorite TV shows and movies that we adore—nay—worship (the ones that the rest of the world doesn’t generally fawn over). And do you know what makes the day for the likes of us?

Getting to look at the work of cosplayers who, unlike the lazy people that we are, painstakingly put together the best cosplays imaginable. And when I say “best," I don’t necessarily mean the most extravagantly complicated ones.

No. I mean the type of cosplays that are either too obscure or require an intricate knowledge of the plot of the series to be coming from the so many wannabe cosplayers that are flooding the Comic Cons of today.

So without further ado, here’s a list of the best 18 cosplays.

18 Ryuk

And here we get to see a sneak peak into the world the Ryuk, the death god. With his favorite human item in his hand: an apple! Makes you wonder who the next lucky chap will be who’ll get the Death Note. Hmmm….

17 Alice (Resident Evil)

This one’s definitely for those of us not ashamed to admit (in public) that yes, Alice was an effing BADASS.

16 Castiel (Supernatural)

And who doesn’t love heaven’s worst/best fallen angel? I thought the wings were a beautiful touch, one that can be given only by a true fan.

15 Sherlock and Irene Adler (Sherlock)

Via: deviantart.com

Just look at them. WOW. Need I say more? BTW, They're both chicks. Didn't see that coming, did you?

14 Rocket Raccoon (Guardians of the Galaxy)

Via: laughingsquid.com

Alright, so a lot of you may say that this isn't strictly cosplaying. But would you just look at it? And yeah, this costume was hand-stitched by a mother for her child. Damn.

13 Mulan’s army friends (Mulan)

Via: Pinterest

Why is it that we’re bombarded with hundreds of Elsas' and Snow Whites but not cosplays like these? I mean, have you ever seen anything more perfect?

12 Owen Grady (Jurassic World)

Via: Pinterest

Even he managed to also bond with some of the dinosaurs.

11 The Doctor (Doctor Who)

Via: deviantart.net

Okay, I’ll admit it. Among the hundreds of stunning Doctor Who cosplays I’ve come across, I think this one’s perfect because of this guy's uncanny resemblance to 10. And also because I’m more partial to 10 than to 11.

Sue me.

10 Snape (Harry Potter)

Sometimes, it’s not about the costume itself but how you present your character. And looking at Snape crying over the dead body of Lily with baby Harry sitting right beside him, is nothing less than poignant for any and every Potter fan.

9 Hiro Hamada (Big Hero 6)

The protagonist of Big Hero 6 (or was it Baymax?) looks like he came to life to bequeath us mortals of a gorgeous photoshoot.

8 Bumble Bee (Transformers)

I know I said I’d feature nothing super extravagant, but come on. Look at those bloody details.

7 Wolverine (X-Men)

Via: leagueofextraordinarycosplayers.wordpress.com

Another excellent character who is sadly not seen as much at Comic Cons as the other Marvel heroes. Maybe they're scared of accidentally cutting themselves with those claws?

6 Captain Malcolm (Serenity)

Via: pinimg.com

Okay. This one’s mind boggling. Molly Quinn (daughter of Nathan Fillion’s character Castle in the TV series Castle) is dressed up like Fillion’s most iconic role to date: Captain Malcolm Reynolds.

5 Gru and Vector

And here’s yet another excellent cosplay duo, that, despite having a very, very popular movie, doesn’t get to grace many Comic Cons or cosplay competitions. That’s just plain sad.

4 Lara Croft

I do love it when women are able to cosplay female characters without having to go nearly naked on a public platform.

Her pose, the dirt on her face, and pretty much everything in this photo is perfect. I know it’s less of a typical cosplay environment and more of a photoshoot. But hey! A good costume’s a good costume.

3 Jack Skellington and Sally

Via: Pinterest

Just. Look. At. Them.

2 Hiccup (How To Train Your Dragon)

Via: i.kinja-img.com

I don’t know if he’s the same guy who cosplayed Hiro, but either way, that’s one hell of an uncanny resemblance to a fictional character.

1 The Cabbage Merchant (Avatar: The Last Airbender)

Via: deviantart.net

Nobody knows what his name is, but he’s a running gang in Avatar: the Last Airbender (ATLA). Much like Mulan’s soldier buddies, this is one character that provides a lot of comic relief, but isn’t seen as often as ATLA fans would want. And that sign? LOL!
