There was a time when the world was amazed by the Duggar family. The mere thought that someone could have that big a family and make it work was nothing short of a miracle. Then they watched as the family kept growing, as Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar kept having more children.

This lasted for a while, and the family had a lot of success. All things must come to an end, and the same is true for this family from Arkansas. The name Duggar is now synonymous with the word scandal, and people tune in to see what trouble this family will get itself into.

The scandal surrounding their eldest son, Josh, was the straw that broke the camel's back and it is what got the show cancelled in the end. There is a spin-off show now, following some of the elder sisters of the family, but the family name has been tarnished.

TLC was the channel that aired this family, and they are still trying to recover from some absolute cringe-worthy moments that the world has not forgotten about, nor stopped talking about. We have 20 of them here.

20 Birth In The Bathroom

It is easy enough to say that this show involves a lot of childbirth footage. Michelle and Jim Bob had their fair share, but now their children are grown and having children of their own.

They first daughter-in-law, Anna, was the first to have a child on the show. According to Screenrant.com, when she gave birth to their first child, she was not comfortable giving birth in front of the cameras and went into the bathroom (of all places) to have some peace and have her baby.

19 “There Is No Such Thing As Over Population”

This family certainly has its fair share of views and opinions on things, and they normally don’t follow the mainstream idea.

Michelle Duggar, the matriarch of the family, was captured in an interview stating that she believed that overpopulation was not accurate, as reported on Screenrant.com. She also stated that the whole world’s population could all fit inside Jacksonville, Florida.

18 Inappropriate Jokes

While it was still seen as inappropriate then, the joke that Josh made earlier in the season has a whole new, and terrifying, meaning now.

All of the couples have to have chaperones on their date, and while being chaperoned by two of his siblings, he made a very inappropriate joke about being from Arkansas. This moment was captured on an episode of 17 Kids & Counting, as reported by Screenrant.com. He was, of course, referring to the incest stereotype that surrounds the southern state.

17 All The Counselling Sessions

People who follow the show have gotten to see a lot of courtships and weddings, and there is something cringe-worthy about each one. That is the pre-marital counselling sessions the bride and groom get from their parents, as reported by Screenrant.com

Jim Bob and Michelle have no training in giving therapy lessons, but every Duggar child must go through the awkward counselling sessions before tying the knot.

16 Getting Told Off By FIL-To-Be

No one likes to get yelled at by their father, or father-in-law, especially when it is on national television. According to Screenrant.com, this is exactly what happened to Jill Duggar and her then-fiancé, Derick.

Couples have strict rules when it comes to what a couple can do before they are married. When the two were engaged, Derick attempted to put his arm around his bride-to-be and Jim Bob awkwardly stepped in between the two of them to prevent this from happening.

15 Oblivious Parents Are SO Embarrassing

Parents are notorious for embarrassing their children, it happens. It usually happens on purpose and not because they are completely oblivious to the world around them.

Screenrant.com reported an incident that occurred on the second season of the show. The world collectively cringed when Jim Bob and Michelle were in San Francisco and they walked into a hippie shop. Jim Bob saw some paraphernalia and thought it was very funny-looking glassware.

14 Wisdom Tooth Meltdown

When you put your whole life on TV, chances are we are going to catch a moment or two that you may not want us to catch. Including getting your wisdom teeth out.

In an episode titled, "Duggars Under The Knife", Jana and Jill, two of the older sisters, had to get their wisdom teeth out and the whole thing was uncomfortable, according to Screenrant.com. Having a phobia of needles sent Jill into a full breakdown, and fans were ashamed that they allowed that to be filmed in its entirety.

13 Pro-Safety Family

There are those out there who value the safety of their family, and they will do and own anything to keep their family safe. There are also those who disagree with that ideology and think items do more harm than good. Screenrant referenced an Instagram post from 2014 that showed the family's love for their safety.

Those who are against such safety measures cringe every time they see how pro-safety the Duggar family is. Often having items very close to young children.

12 Anti-Discrimination Bill Was Rejected … Harshly

Michelle Duggar is often in trouble when it comes to what she says in interviews and on the show, and this moment was too cringe worthy for a lot of people to handle.

According to Screenrant.co, Michelle publicly spoke out against an Anti-Discrimination bill stating that she did not approve of the transgender community and felt that the community would not feel safe with these types of people around young children.

11 The Big One

Josh Duggar, the eldest child, has been the one to cause most of the drama for the family. When Josh got married to Anna, he sang his new wife a song called “The Loyalty Song,” which was cringe-worthy enough for anyone who saw it. This was noted to be in an episode in 2008 by Screenrant.com

What followed was a revelation that he was married and that he was also using a popular online platform to engage in other activities.

10 Past Life Caught Up With Her

There were times when the audience got to catch a glimpse of the past lives of Jim Bob and Michelle and were quite surprised at what they found out.

Michelle used to be quite the rebel, according to Radar Online, wearing bikinis around the house and her family had received complaints from neighbours about her attire.

9 Awkward Courtship (Just One Of Them)

Like we have stated, we have seen a lot of courtships as we have followed the Duggar’s, and they all tend to be a bit much, but this one wins the prize.

Jessa and Ben wanted to start a courtship and when Ben got the approval from Jim Bob, he had the job of officially asking Jessa. The whole conversation where Ben asks Jessa to officially court is awkward and uncomfortable. This was all noted by Screenrant.com, in regards to an episode of the show.

8 Bed Sharing Got Real Awkward Real Quick!

Thanks to funds from the show, the family now lives in a huge house and has more than enough room for everyone. More so, given that a lot of the children are starting to move out.

This was not always the case; the whole family was cramped in very small quarters at one point and it was a cringe fest. There was not enough space for every child to have their own bed, and a lot of them ended up having to share beds to sleep in at night. This was all noted in a special episode titled, 16 Children and Moving In.

7 Parents Defending Their Son Is Usually A Good Thing

This moment came later on in the series, near the end actually, and it has left a lasting impression After Josh was discovered to have been inappropriate with four of his sisters, and having had an affair on his wife, he had a lot of support.

People mainly cringed because most of this support came from his own parents, Jim Bob and Michelle. The couple reported their feelings in an interview with Fox News and was reported by Screenrant.com. People were shocked that they could stand behind their son who had hurt their other (innocent) children.

6 Backwards Beliefs

The family has very strong beliefs when it comes to a lot of things, and their girls are often the victim of these beliefs more than anyone. This is all reported on Screenrant.com.

They are taught that they always need to dress modest and be held accountable for how they are seen in the world. They must only wear skirts that are long and modest clothing. They are also responsible for all of the housework in the house.

5 Sister Or Mother?

There are a lot of people who are still following the Duggar family and they are saddened for one daughter. Jana Duggar is one of the oldest daughters in the family, and she is still at home. Jana's status is reported by entertainmentdaily.co.uk.

She is not married, so she is still living with her parents. What fans can’t help but notice is that she acts more like a mother than Michelle does and seems to take on a lot of the maternal roles that people feel Michelle should be doing.

4 Michelle Says ‘Never Say No’

This moment came as quite a shock to people all over the world, as it is not a view that is shared by many. According to entertainmentdaily.co.uk, Michelle teaches her children, girls specifically, that they are to grow up, meet a man and take care of the house.

She also teaches them that they are to be subservient to their husbands. They are never to say no to his requests and that is how you keep a man happy in a marriage.

3 A Bit Too Forgiving

We already discussed how the world was shocked that Jim Bob and Michelle seemed to support their son after it came to light what he had done to his sisters.

However, people were also a bit weary when they heard that the sisters had forgiven him. They brushed it off as a boy in the midst of puberty who was curious. The sisters had given an interview, which was shared by therichest.com.

2 A Loss Was Staged?

There was still supposed to be one more Duggar, but sadly, the pregnancy did not last. While the world understands that is sad, they also thought it was a bit staged.

According to therichest.com, some cringed at the thought that they would allow this to be aired for everyone to see. That this should have been a private time and not something that was seen to be used as a means to make money.

1 A Medical Emergency

There was a scary moment in the Duggar world when the youngest child, Jodie, had a violent seizure. It was, of course, caught on film and aired for the world to see.

According to therichest.com, many cringed at the fact that they chose to air this whole thing on national television. Especially since Jodie was well underage and could not consent to having that used for monetary gain.
