20 Facts About Gamora That Everyone Chooses To Ignore

Ever since she was first introduced in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, Gamora has been one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most beloved heroines. Gamora courageously rebelled against her villainous father Thanos, entered into an adorable "will they or won't they" romance with Star-Lord, and helped save the universe on several occasions.

Viewers were devastated when she lost her life during Thanos' mad quest to complete the Infinity Gauntlet in Avengers: Infinity War, but thanks to the time travel of Endgame, a time-displaced version of Gamora is still in the MCU. Fans assume that she'll soon rejoin her fellow Guardians and things will go back to normal, but comic book readers know that it likely won't be that simple.

Marvel Comics' Gamora isn't quite the hero she's made out to be in the MCU, and on a few occasions, she's posed as big of a threat to the universe as the Mad Titan himself. She's still a fascinating, likable character, but there's a lot about Gamora that fans seem to be choosing to ignore.

20 SHE WASN'T A FOUNDING MEMBER OF THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

via: marvel.com

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Gamora joined up with the Guardians of the Galaxy as soon as the team was founded. She knew what horrible plans Ronan the Accuser and Thanos had for the Power Stone, so Gamora helped the Nova Corps and her fellow Guardians keep that Infinity Stone out of villainous hands.

That's not quite what happened in the comics. It took several years for Gamora to join up with that ragtag group of space heroes, because she was busy working with either her father Thanos or the Infinity Watch.

19 SHE'S MORE FORMIDABLE IN COMBAT THAN THE MCU DEPICTS

via: pinterest.com

The MCU has repeatedly stated that Gamora is one of the universe's most formidable fighters, but it's been difficult to fully accept that claim since she's only really defeated Nebula and a few nameless aliens in hand-to-hand combat. We'd love to see her face off against Captain America or Hulk, because in the comics, her martial arts skill has helped her defeat numerous opponents whose strength and durability surpassed her own.

She once defeated an entire military platoon containing dozens of combat-trained soldiers in a matter of minutes.

18 SHE'S MORE LINKED TO ADAM WARLOCK THAN STAR-LORD

via: cbr.com

Star-Lord and Gamora are clearly soulmates in the films, but those two heroes don't have nearly as strong a relationship in the comics. Gamora's most significant romance in the source material has been with Adam Warlock, a fellow member of the Infinity Watch.

She and Adam worked together for years, and when their relationship came to an end, she seemingly moved on with Nova. She and Peter Quill shared a kiss years later, but comic fans will always believe she's meant to be with Adam over Star-Lord.

17 HER RACE WASN'T ELIMINATED BY THANOS

via: screenrant.com

Gamora has plenty of reason to loathe Thanos in the MCU. The Mad Titan eliminated her family and half of her race, forced her to become his daughter, and then heartlessly trained her to become a warrior feared throughout the galaxy.

Gamora eventually grew to hate her father in the comics, but it wasn't as instant because he wasn't actually the one who made her the last of her kind. Thanos found her and took her in after the Badoon had already wiped out most of her species, the Zen-Whoberis.

16 SHE WAS ACTUALLY VERY LOYAL TO THE MAD TITAN AT FIRST

via: syfy.com

Gamora grew to doubt that Thanos ever truly loved her, but when the Mad Titan first took her in as a child, he showed Gamora just enough kindness to ensure her loyalty. He also promised her that, by training with him to become a deadly assassin, she'd be able to avenge the death of her family.

For years, Gamora did exactly as Thanos asked and helped him vanquish his enemies, and it wasn't until she realized that he planned to eliminate half of the life in the universe that she finally turned against him.

15 LIKE NEBULA, GAMORA ALSO RECEIVED CYBERNETIC ENHANCEMENTS

via: screenrant.com

Viewers know that Thanos provided Nebula with cybernetic enhancements whenever she lost her sparring matches against her sister Gamora, but the films never revealed that Gamora received some enhancements as well.

Gamora once faced off against a number of thugs too large for her to defeat alone, so they attacked her and left her on the brink of death. When Thanos found her, he restored her to health and cybernetically enhanced her to superhuman levels, turning Gamora—who was already considered the "deadliest woman in the galaxy"—into an even more formidable fighter.

14 THE COMICS SPOILED GAMORA'S ENTRAPMENT IN THE SOUL STONE

via: comicbook.com

Since Gamora is a founding member of the MCU's Guardians of the Galaxy, audiences assumed she was completely untouchable in Infinity War. Viewers were left with their jaws dropped with Thanos threw her off a cliff on Vormir, but the comics totally spoiled her eventual place inside of the Soul Stone.

Gamora, Adam Warlock and Pip the Troll all spent years together in the comics trapped inside of the Soulworld that's found within the Soul Stone.

13 GAMORA POSSESSED A HUMAN'S BODY

When Thanos gathered all of the Infinity Stones in Marvel Comics' Infinity War, Adam Warlock decided he must be stopped and guided Gamora and Pip out of the Soulworld. Their souls then took over the bodies of three humans.

Granted, those humans had recently lost their lives in a car crash and thus had no more use for their bodies, but it was still weird that Gamora basically zombiefied Bambi Long's corpse without permission.

12 SHE EMBRACES HER NEGATIVE REPUTATION

via: comicbook.com

The heroic Gamora fans know from the Marvel Cinematic Universe resents her reputation as "deadliest woman in the galaxy," but in the comics, she does everything she can to remind people just how dangerous and powerful she can be.

When she became leader of a female warriors called The Graces, she actually sat on a throne made of corpses, proudly wielding a deadly blade known as "Godslayer."

11 SHE COULD HAVE FOILED THANOS' PLANS BY DESTROYING TWO INFINITY STONES

via: popsugar.co.uk

It's difficult to say who is the most to blame for Thanos' victory over the Avengers in Infinity War. Several heroes made major errors which led to the Mad Titan's snap, but Gamora should probably receive the most criticism.

She knew all about her father's goal to wipe out half of all life in the universe with the Infinity Gauntlet, and she knew the whereabouts of both the Power Stone and the Soul Stone. Scarlet Witch proved it's capable to destroy Infinity Stones, but Gamora didn't bother trying to do that.

10 GAMORA BRIEFLY WIELDED THE TIME STONE

via: slashfilm.com

Doctor Strange may have been the primary wielder of the Time Stone in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but in the comics, the Infinity Watch tasked with keeping the Infinity Stones out of dangerous hands actually entrusted Gamora with this powerful cosmic weapon.

She developed a mental link to the Time Gem, and theoretically had the power to control time. Unfortunately, she struggled to figure out how to employ its powers, so she preferred not to use it at all.

9 SHE TRIED CLAIMING ANOTHER INFINITY STONE FOR HERSELF

via: fandom.com

Gamora, Adam Warlock and Pip were able to escape from the Soulworld in the comics, but a piece of Gamora's soul remained trapped inside of the Soul Stone. When Gamora joined the Guardians of the Galaxy and her new team came across the Power Stone, she desperately tried to convince Star-Lord to let her use it so she could reacquire the Soul Stone as well.

He refused, and she left the Guardians as a result. Star-Lord probably made the right decision though, because Gamora's father Thanos had already shown how dangerous it can be to let someone wield multiple Infinity Stones.

8 SHE FOLLOWED IN THANOS' FOOTSTEPS AND ATTACKED NIDAVELLIR

via: youtube.com

Thanos attacked Nidavellir prior to the events of Avengers: Infinity War to force Etri to forge the Infinity Gauntlet for him. It was one of the Mad Titan's most savage acts before he snapped his fingers and wiped out half the universe, and Gamora did something startling similar to it in the comics.

In order to help her quest to obtain the Soul Stone, Gamora attacked and took one of Nidavellir's master forge-smiths and forced him to make her new armor. He complied, but Gamora still ended his life once he finished.

7 SHE SINGLE-HANDEDLY DEFEATED THE MAD TITAN

via: screenrant.com

It took all of Earth's Mightiest Heroes to eliminate Thanos in the MCU, but comic book Gamora proved capable of this feat all on her own. During her quest to acquire the Soul Stone, she attacked her father to prevent his potential interference. Thanos mocked her by saying that he was happy she was going to conduct his requiem and gather multiple Infinity Stones, but Gamora brushed off that comment and ended the Mad Titan's life.

Thanos' words did resonate with Gamora, though, because she then adopted the name Requiem as her new alias.

6 GAMORA ALSO TRIED ENDING STAR-LORD'S LIFE

via: youtube.com

Gamora and Star-Lord fought each other during their first cinematic encounter in Guardians of the Galaxy, but they've had much more violent spats in the source material.

Requiem's mission to gather the Infinity Stones put her in the path of the new Infinity Watch and her old teammate Star-Lord, and Peter Quill quickly figured out her true identity. Gamora tried to terminate him as a result, and Star-Lord was only saved by the intervention of a Time Stone-wielding Doctor Strange.

5 HER RIVALRY WITH NEBULA WAS HER OWN FAULT

via: fandom.com

Nebula is made out to be the villain in her Guardians of the Galaxy rivalry with Gamora, but it was made fairly clear in the sequel that Gamora was actually the more heartless and violent sister.

Thanos frequently made them fight each other, and Gamora won these battles each time. Thanos would then try to cybernetically enhance Nebula against her will to make her stronger, and this understandably led to Nebula resenting Gamora. If Gamora showed Nebula a bit more kindness, mercy or let her win the occasional battle, things between the two could have been different.

4 SHE THREATENED ALL OF REALITY BY CREATING A WARP WORLD

via: comicbookherald.com

Gamora may not have gone the Thanos route of wiping out half of all existence when she finally gathered all of the Infinity Stones in the comics, but she did something nearly as catastrophic.

She used the Stones to fold the universe in half and then merge the two halves together, before sending the universe into a pocket dimension called Warp World which existed inside the Soul Gem. Thankfully, a group of Cosmic Avengers foiled her plan and restored reality back to normal.

3 GAMORA WOULDN'T BE AS STRONG A FIGHTER WITHOUT THANOS' GUIDANCE

via: comicscube.com

It's understandable why Gamora resents Thanos for the way he treated her during her childhood, but it's thanks to the Mad Titan that she grew to become one of the universe's most feared fighters. She takes pleasure from her reputation, and Thanos helped her acquire it.

Thanos trained her diligently for decades, and at first, she was happy to learn the skills needed to take out her enemies. Without his guidance, Gamora might never have developed into such a powerful, independent individual.

2 SHE BRIEFLY HAD THE ABILITY TO SEE THE FUTURE IN HER DREAMS

via: screenrant.com

Fans believe that Gamora's only superpower is her enhanced fighting ability, but in the comics, she actually had the ability to see the future in her dreams for a significant period of time.

This was a result of her ownership of the Time Stone, which she wasn't quite sure how to operate when she was awake. Once she fell asleep, however, its power manifested through sporadic precognitive dreams and visions.

1 IT'S HER BOYFRIEND'S FAULT THAT THANOS BEAT THE AVENGERS IN THE MCU

via: vix.com

The Avengers who fought Thanos on his home planet of Titan very nearly stripped him of his Infinity Gauntlet and foiled his mission to snap away half the universe. Unfortunately, when Star-Lord learned that Thanos obtained the Soul Stone by sacrificing Gamora, the leader of the Guardians' rage caused him to ruin the heroes' plan.

Peter loved Gamora and he deserved to be upset, but he shouldn't have put the fate of the universe at risk just so he could attack his crush's father.
