Gwen Stefani may still be a "Hollaback Girl" to us, but at home her three boys just call her ‘Mom.’ The singer has slowed down when it comes to releasing new music in recent years ever since her split from her long-time love, Bush lead singer Gavin Rossdale.

The pair first met in 1995 when Gwen’s band No Doubt and Bush both performed at a holiday concert for radio station KROQ. The two began dating shortly after and ended up tying the knot in 2002, with ceremonies both in London and LA. The couple ended up welcoming three sons: Kingston (born in 2006), Zuma (born in 2008) and Apollo Bowie (born in 2014). However, Gwen and Gavin surprised fans by announcing their intent to divorce only a year after their youngest son’s birth. Their divorce was finalized in 2016. Since 2015, Gwen has been dating her The Voice co-star Blake Shelton and the couple have shown no signs of slowing down ever since.

With three boys and a bustling job, Gwen clearly has her hands full. Although we’re sure she had a tough time following her divorcee, nowadays the celebrity makes juggling motherhood with a professional life seem like a piece of cake. Check out these 20 facts about how Gwen is parenting her sons.

20 She Went To Mediation Over Custody

Although they’ve been separated since 2016, Gwen and her ex-husband Gavin made headlines in 2018 when reports said they were going to mediation over custody issues. Evidently, Gavin had requested more time with their three boys, but Gwen was unwilling to give it.

“Gwen believes that she provides a consistent living environment and that the kids should be with her the majority of the time,” an insider told E! News.

“They are older now and taking their school work and activities seriously,” they continued. “She thinks Gavin still very much lives a rock star lifestyle and it’s in the kids' best interest to be with her. She wants to raise the kids a certain way and it’s very challenging because Gavin has different priorities.”

19 She Took Her Newborn On Tour

Gwen Stefani sure didn’t put her music on hold when she became a mom. The singer has opened up about the challenges of taking an infant on the road with her, although she’s apparently done it several times. Now that’s a #BossMom.

"When I first had them, I was like, 'I don't care, I'm just going to take them with me!'" Gwen told Parents, explaining she toured with her son Kingston when he was only 4 months old.

"And then by the time he was eight months, I was in rehearsals and went on a world tour and took him everywhere," the mom-of-three continued. "And that was a crazy experience to be on these long flights with a baby."

18 But Now She Doesn’t Take Them Out Of School

Even though it sounds like Gwen was pretty carefree with her boys’ schedule when they were younger, she’s admitted to toughening up on her rules.

While some celebrities choose to homeschool their kids, others (like Gwen) want them to get the regular experience of going to school, but it can come with its downsides. "It's so hard to take them out of school and do things," she told Parents. "You kind of have to keep them working hard and in their routine."

Now that all three of her children are in school, we can definitely imagine that having them miss school to go on tour with her isn’t an option.

17 She Thinks She Quit Breastfeeding Too Early

Breastfeeding is an extremely personal decision. Some mothers choose to forgo it, perhaps because their job is too demanding or it was too difficult for them. But for others, they may choose to breastfeed for years.

Back in 2009, Gwen revealed that she felt pressured to wean her second child, Zuma, off her as soon as possible in order to make it easier to manage work. However, it sounds like she has regrets about her decision.

"I didn't want him to (quit), it felt like a total rejection," she explained, USA Today reports. "It was really hormonal, and trying to stop in the middle of the tour was insane."

16 Her Boyfriend Is A Very Involved Co-Parent

Gwen got involved with her Voice co-star Blake Shelton fairly quickly after announcing her divorce and the couple has been inseparable ever since, with marriage and baby rumours constantly circulating.

Blake has opened up about just how much he enjoys helping his girlfriend parent her three boys. From the sounds of it, he’s a very involved co-parent.

"At this point in my life, I kind of had put [having kids] as like, 'Well, that wasn't meant to be,'" the country crooner told People last year. "Then all of a sudden it happens one way or another and it's like, 'Wow, [I] missed out on a lot.' And so having them around...I don't even know how to describe it. It's so much fun."

15 They’re Waiting Until The Kids Are Older To Marry

From gushing about each other in interviews to starring in each other's music videos, Gwen and Blake have proven various times just how in love they are. They’ve even spoken about their desire to get married. So, many fans have been curious to know when they’ll seal the deal, especially since they seem ready for it.

However, it appears the couple might be waiting until Gwen’s sons are older. “Blake and Gwen want Apollo to get a little older before they end up getting married,” a source told Hollywood Life about Gwen’s youngest son, Apollo, who was 5 years old at the time. “They want everyone to be present for that special occasion when it eventually happens down the line.”

14 She Dislikes Disciplining Her Kids

Most parents will tell you that laying down the law can be one of the toughest parts about motherhood, and it sounds like Gwen would agree. While speaking to People, she once lamented about how much she detests handing out consequences to her boys.

“The hardest thing to do is having a discipline chart and follow-up on all those things,” she told the publication. “It’s work, you know? But that’s where you get the results. I see a constant fear of ‘How am I gonna make sure these kids are good people?’”

Gwen continued, “I feel like naturally it’s so easy for them to be naughty, and you get more and more worried about it the older they get.”

13 Her Kids Cook Her Dinner

From the sound of it, we’d say Gwen and Gavin’s boys definitely inherited their parents’ creative genes. While speaking to Today, the singer revealed her boys love to try their hand at whipping up creations in the kitchen.

“I bought one of those clay pots you can put in the oven and cook things,” she explained, adding her oldest sons Kingston and Zuma found a recipe and then headed to the grocery store. The boys later cooked dinner for their mom and brother.

They even made dessert! “We had an ice cream maker that has been sitting in the garage for years. So they went and got all the ingredients and are going to make two different types of ice cream,” Gwen added.

12 She Won’t Let Her Boys Get Piercings

Gwen has always been pretty free when it comes to her style. She’s rocked almost every hair colour in the book and showed up to red carpets in next to nothing. She’s also been open about the experimental, rockstar lifestyle that she had in the '90s before motherhood.

However, it sounds like the star’s free-spirited past has made her strict when it comes to her boys. For instance, she once revealed that piercings are a no in her household. “I love when they still play and you’re like, ‘Oh good. They’re still doing that.’ [But then] there will be other things like, ‘Can I get my ears pierced?’ I’m like, ‘Um, no. No, you can’t!’” She once said, Huffington Post reports.

11 She Plays Fundraisers At Her Kids’ School

Just a few years ago, Beyonce made headlines for performing at a charitable event at Blue Ivy’s elite school. So, it’s not all that surprising to hear that Gwen and her bandmates have also performed at her sons’ school.

During an interview with Vogue, the singer recalled the time she and her former band played at a fundraiser for Zuma’s school. “We hadn’t played in three years. And I was going to do an acoustic thing with Tom, just a couple songs. The night before, we were like, Why don’t we all do it?” she said.

Gwen added, “And it was kind of weird going to school the next day. Oooh, awkward! But it was so great. There’s such a chemistry, this electricity between us, we can just do it. We can do it anywhere.”

10 She Got Backlash For Painting Her Son’s Nails

In 2016, Gwen was the subject of an online controversy after some fans took issue with the singer allowing her son to get his nails painted. The celebrity eventually responded to the debacle in an interview with Pride Source when she was asked about allowing her boys to explore their feminine sides.

“Of course, everyone’s gonna have their perspective and their opinion, and I know what’s real and what’s honest and true, and that’s really all that matters to me and all that’s important,” the mom-of-three replied. “So, it doesn’t really bother me. As long as my boys are protected and happy and I’m spending quality time with them, whether it’s doing sports or doing nails, it really doesn’t matter.”

9 She Dislikes It When Her Kids Have Homework

Homework time can be as hard for the kid as it can be for the parent. Whether your child throws a hissy fit when it’s time to do homework or you just have a hard time helping them learn the content, most parents wish their kids could just do all their work at school.

Once, Gwen hinted that she can’t stand it when her kids have after-school work to do. "That routine of homework is just ‘Ugh.’ By the end, you’re ready to just have them be home and have a little bit more of a flexible schedule and do fun stuff that they love to do," she explained to People.

We guess summer break must be her favourite time of year!

8 Her Kids Have Strong Opinions On Fashion

Aside from her work in music, Gwen has also dabbled in the fashion industry with her fashion lines, like L.A.M.B. and Harajuku Mini. Additionally, the star has become known for her bold sense of style, including her signature bleached hair and red lips.

So, given how passionate Gwen is about fashion, it’s no surprise to hear her boys love it just as much. When asked by Parenting if her sons have strong fashion opinions, the mom-of-three replied, “They do! It surprises me. Sometimes I'll dress them, and they'll say, ‘Mom, I can't wear this in front of people!’”

We guess this is why her boys always look so stylish! Who knows, maybe one of them will land up with a job in fashion.

7 She Admits That Her Kids Are 'So Spoiled'

When you grow up with two famous parents in the music industry, you’re bound to grow up in the lap of luxury. So, no fans are assuming that Gwen and Gavin’s three children are lacking in anything.

In 2017, Gwen admitted that she knows just how lucky her boys are to come from such a well-off background “They’re so spoiled! I don’t know what I’m going to do,” she told People while discussing what she would get her boys for Christmas that year.

“The oldest one has just started to get into liking brands and knowing what that is,” the famous mama continued. “[He] wants Gucci and Goyard for Christmas. I’m like, ‘Dude, how do you even know these things?!'”

6 She Says Her Youngest Is Easy To Shop For

While on the topic of Christmas and presents, Gwen admitted that she finds it’s easiest to shop for her youngest son, Apollo, who was only three years old at the time.

“The younger [kids] are, the easier they are,” she told People. “The little one is easy because all he cares about is Imaginext toys — probably in three weeks from now, he won’t care anymore!”

However, considering that her older son said he wanted Gucci for Christmas, it seems pretty self-explanatory why her younger son might be the easier one to buy presents for. After all, what 11 year old needs anything from Gucci or Goyard?

5 Her Kids Vacation With Her Boyfriend

It’s all one big happy family here! Many fans have wondered how Gwen’s sons adjusted following their parents’ split, especially since Gwen and Blake began dating so soon afterwards.

From the looks of things, everything appears to be going smoothly since the singer has taken her kids on vacation with her and Blake before.

This past April, the couple shared photos online of a trip they took to visit Blake’s extended family. In one shot, Blake was seen fishing with Gwen’s youngest son, Apollo. The previous year, the couple and her children headed to Oklahoma to visit Gwen’s family. Families that travel together, stay together, right?

4 Their Christmas Traditions Have Changed

We can only imagine how much of Gwen’s life changed when she and her husband Gavin divorced in 2016. Now that the parents share joint custody of their three sons, they’ve had to figure out how to divide the holidays between their families. But from the sounds of things, it’s all going all right.

“For me, it’s weird when traditions change. But it’s also fun to be flexible,” Gwen told People in 2017. “So we have incorporated an Oklahoma Christmas...and Christmas now has been really fun for the boys and for my family.”

“Last year, [the boys] had their dad’s Christmas and then my Christmas, and then we went to Oklahoma, so they got to do three Christmases,” she continued. “We just keep it going. They’re always asking, ‘Are we going to get more presents?!’”

3 Her Kids Are Close To Their Cousins

Given how busy Gwen and Gavin must be with their work, and that it keeps them primarily based in LA, we can imagine it’s difficult for them to see their family. That’s why we never expected Gwen’s sons would be particularly close to her extended family.

But on the contrary, Gwen once revealed they all have a very close relationship. “I believe in that tribal thing, the more the merrier,” she told Today. “[Weekends are] always better with the cousins around. When it’s just my three boys, there are fights.”

With all of the speculation that Gwen and her boyfriend Blake are hoping to have a child together, perhaps Gwen’s "the more, the merrier" attitude is a sign that she will, indeed, have more children in the future.

2 She Says Her Youngest Son Was A Miracle

There have been plenty of reports that suggest Gwen and her boyfriend Blake want to have a child of their own. Many tabloids assume that, since the musician has three boys, she must be desperate to have at least one little girl.

However, although she’s appeared open to the idea of baby no. 4 in the future, Gwen nevertheless doesn’t sound hopeful about the possibility. While speaking to Today, she admitted that she considered her third pregnancy a “miracle.”

“Um… I would love to [have more kids] but, I don’t, you know… probably not. I feel like Apollo was a miracle,” she said.

1 She Puts Her Kids Before Work

Gwen was still releasing new music and going on tour when she first became a mom over a decade ago. It hasn’t been difficult for fans to see the celebrity has slowed down her workload in recent years, ever since her divorce.

Nowadays, Gwen has hinted that she’s a lot more family-oriented than she was in the past. “What I learned about having kids and having a [job] is [it’s] not all about us,” she explained to People. “You realize that [kids] only want you to care about them. It’s just that automatic, like, ‘You’re my mom!’”

So, fans shouldn’t be expecting Gwen to be rushing back to the studio or her tour bus anytime soon.
