20 Mistakes In The Harry Potter Films That No One Even Noticed (Until Now)

The Harry Potter films are based on the fantasy book series of the same name by J.K. Rowling. While there are seven books, there were eight films made, breaking up the last book into two parts. The films are wildly popular, with three of the films landing on the “50 highest-grossing films of all time” at release.

J.K. Rowling was adamant that the main actors selected were British, making the films more authentic. This meant that many of the actors had their breakout performance on the Harry Potter films.

Having a successful movie, however, doesn’t exclude it from having mistakes, and the Harry Potter films are no exception. Here are 20 mistakes in the Harry Potter films that no one ever noticed.

20 He Doesn’t Even Go Here

via retroent.com

On the left hand side of this photo you’ll notice that there is a camera man who definitely doesn’t go to Hogwarts. And he definitely wasn’t supposed to be in this shot in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. How this actually made it into the film is beyond us!

19 Magic Carpet Ride

via moviemistakes.com

While this oopsie isn’t as easy to notice, it’s hard to unsee it once it’s pointed out. In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Ron moved places on the rug from one scene to the next. So unless this is a magic carpet, this is another mistake that wasn’t caught.

18 Tape Marks Visible

via moviemistakes.com

Viewers don’t often get to see behind the scenes of movies and TV shows, but everything isn’t as easy as it looks. Every actor has a specific place, often marked by tape. In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets we get to see these tape marks that cue Mr. Weasley’s line.

17 The Mysterious Note

via the odysseyonline.com

This is another mistake that most fans probably didn’t notice. When you see a still shot you clearly notice that the note being passed in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire clearly has four lines in one scene and three lines in the next. Why didn’t they use the same note?

16 Who Opened The Book?

via pinterest.com

There weren’t many mistakes in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, but this oopsie was very noticeable. The book next to Hermione is closed in one scene and open in the next without anyone touching it. It’s possible that there was an extremely high wind that opened the book, but highly unlikely.

15 Color Changing Towels

via moviemistakes.com

In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, it’s pretty obvious that the towels around Harry and Hermione’s shoulders change from one scene to the next. In the second scene, it looks as though Hermione has Harry’s towel and Harry has a completely new towel. Who was in charge of handing out towels?

14 Wardrobe Malfunction

via moviemistakes.com

Hopefully the person in charge of wardrobe started keeping track of outfits more carefully after this blunder in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Harry’s shirt is a completely different style from one scene to the next although the color is only slightly different, so maybe it was an honest mistake.

13 Is This Your Suitcase?

via moviemistakes.com

I’m not sure whose suitcase is in the second picture, but it certainly isn’t Harry or Ron’s. In the first scene in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the suitcase that Ron flips over is clearly different than the one he gets up next to in the following scene.

12 Vanishing Hair

via moviemistakes.com

There was a little mixup with Professor Quirinus Quirrell and whether he is supposed to have hair or not. He is always seen wearing his turban so you can’t really tell. But in a couple scenes you can see that he has sideburns. It’s not a big deal until the end when it’s clear he is supposed to be completely bald!

11 Wires Are Visible

via moviemistakes.com

The Harry Potter movies have a ton of cool visual effects. One of those awesome scenes is in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone when they have floating candles. Or it would be great until you notice the wires holding up the candles. While it kills the magic a little big it doesn’t take away from the movie.

10 How Did You Get Here?

via pinterest.com

One of the biggest mistakes in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is when the everyone forgot where Harry was supposed to be seated while filming. In one shot Harry is across the table from Hermione, next to Ron. And then we suddenly see him sitting next to Hermione. So how did he get there?

9 Will You Hold This For Me?

via moviemistakes.com

In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, fans noticed a small mistake. In one shot Ron is holding a rather large book. In the next shot, he’s not holding anything. This caused fans to question where his book came from and why wasn’t Ron holding it the entire time?

8 Wand Changes Pockets

via moviemistakes.com

Fans loved this mistake and caught it as soon as the movie aired. In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Wormtail puts Voldemort’s wand into the left pocket of his coat. But when he gives Voldemort his wand back, he pulls it out from the right pocket of his coat.

7 Blood Disappears

via pinterest.com

Unless you were looking closely, it was hard to notice this small mistake. In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry got wounded on his arm after a fight with Tom Riddle and got blood on his hands. In the next shot, however, we can’t see any blood on Harry’s hands.

6 Moving Blanket

via pinterest.com

When Harry is at Arthur’s house in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, there is a little blunder with the orange blanket. In one shot the orange blanket is folded over the arm of the couch, but in the next shot the blanket is seen hanging on the back of the couch.

5 Inconsistent Hug

via moviemistakes.com

At the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, there is a scene where Ron and Hermione are sending their daughter Rose off to Hogwarts. In the first shot Rose’s hand is on the back of Hermione. In the next shot, her hand moved to Hermione’s arm, even though neither of them moved.

4 Where Are My Legs?

via moviemistakes.com

The earlier movies have more mistakes than the later movies, and this oopsie in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was quite big. When Grawp lifts up Hermione in the Forbidden Forrest, her legs are suddenly cut completely off. This was clearly a case of CGI gone wrong.

3 Bumpy Clothes

via moviemistakes.com

By the time the gang filmed Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, you would have thought they would have gotten the hang of things. For instance, they probably should have known how to hide their battery packs better. Obviously they hadn’t, since you can clearly see their battery packs in several scenes.

2 Costume Change

via moviemistakes.com

In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix we have another wardrobe malfunction that made it into the film. When Harry and Dudley have a confrontation at the playground, Dudley is filmed in one pair of shorts. Although the design is similar, Dudley is definitely wearing a different pair of shorts in the next shot.

1 Laundry Mistake

via moviemistakes.com

Although this oopsie is just in the background, fans still easily pointed out this mistake. After the gang fights the troll in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, there is a towel hanging up neatly in the background. But in the next shot, even though no one touched the towel, the towel is no longer handing neatly.
