Some fans don’t remember what movie it was when they first set eyes on the screen goddess known as Charlize Theron – they just remember they couldn’t take their eyes off her. At 44-years old, Charlize can outshine and out-glow any young starlet under the age of 20 without even so much as blinking. Theron first showed her ageless on the screen during the 1990s when she starred in a series of forgotten movies.
The one thing we didn’t forget was her face.
But it wasn’t until make-up altered her face dramatically in the film Monster when Hollywood and the Academy finally took notice that her acting skill matches her real-life face.
Here are 20 photos that prove Charlize has actually discovered the fountain of youth.
20 Cover Girl
It’s 2019 and Charlize still does photoshoots where she looks like she isn’t a single toe outside of her 20’s. The thing is, it isn’t just Charlize’s face we tend to idolize. Especially since she took home the Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in 2003.
19 The Fountain Of Youth
Charlize was born in Benoni, which was (at the time) in the Transvaal Province of South Africa and while she’s fluent in English, her first language is actually Afrikaans. Acting wasn’t actually her first choice – Charlize actually wanted to be a dancer. She ended up getting a one-year modeling contract at 16 though.
18 Doing IG Right
And it appears that worked out quite well for her, considering. At 16, she moved from her family’s farm to Milan, Italy with her mother, where she modeled throughout Europe until finally moving to New York City when she was still in her teens. In New York, she went to Joffrey Ballet School.
17 Watch Her Earlier Movies (And You Won't Be Able To Tell The Difference)
Unfortunately, a knee injury stole her dreams of becoming a professional ballerina, so she turned to acting. She was actually “discovered” after getting into a yelling match with a bank teller while struggling in Los Angeles. She had her first role in Children of the Corn III, though it was a non-speaking role.
16 Student Daze
Having a beautiful face doesn’t mean one doesn’t have a difficult life. During her young school days in Benoni, she had to deal with a problematic father who often got physical with Charlize and her mother whenever he would drink. She was sent to boarding school at 13 in Johannesburg.
15 Walking Isn't Warranted
Charlize clearly enjoys having as much fun as possible, and you can see it on her Instagram feed. She’s often been said to be a fun person to work with and extremely pleasant. She’s often seen having fun with her two children. She appears not to take life so seriously, and we can all appreciate that.
14 Goddess Status
While the 2000s were filled with some of her best dramatic works, she also dabbled in big-budget movies like Handcock, a superhero movie starring her, Will Smith, and Jason Bateman. After she filmed The Road, she took a two-year break from the screen. The movie Young Adult, the first film she shot after her break, turned out to be a critical hit.
13 Beauty And Innocence
It is actually only a little bit difficult to tell the difference between a younger version of Charlize and the current version. It seems that she only got LOVELIER with time and age. In her younger years, you can tell that whatever baby fat she had in her face disappeared after, like, the age of seven, probably.
12 Time Traveler
I mean, YOU CAN’T EVEN REALLY TELL THE DIFFERENCE HERE. This photo was taken during her school days and she basically looks EXACTLY THE SAME. We can’t tell if she looks like a woman in her 20s here or a woman in her 20s NOW, but we aren’t complaining in the least. She’s just plain stunning and ageless.
11 Fashion Icon
Even back in her modeling days, Charlize has always had a knack when it came to the fashion world. Yet, she could probably make a potato sack appear beautiful if she wanted to. Her fashion seemed to be highlighted in the movie Atomic Blonde, where she played a magnetic spy in the 80s.
10 Smiles and Pigtails
A lot of people don’t know this but Charlize suffered from jaundice when she was a child, which caused her some serious dental issues. “I had no teeth until I was 11,” she said during an interview with The Sun. “I had these fangs because I had jaundice when I was a kid and I was put on so many antibiotics that my teeth rotted.”
9 Turquoise Play
Charlize has a lot to celebrate these days: not only was she named one of Time’s most influential people in the world back in 2016, but this year, she also became one of the world’s highest-paid actresses (ranked 9th by Forbes, with an annual income of $23 million). She has a bit to be thankful for.
8 Teenage Years
Some people often mistakenly believe that life hands you everything if you’re beautiful – and that wasn’t the case with Charlize. She had a difficult childhood growing up and in her teenage years when she had to give up her dream of dancing after a soul-crushing injury knocked her out of it. But, thankfully for us and the rest of the world, she turned to acting.
7 Won't Slow Down
Within the past few years, Charlize has starred in some blockbuster hits, like The Fate of the Furious, Atomic Blonde, Tully, Gringo, A Private War, and most recently, the comedy Long Shot, where she played a U.S. Secretary of State opposite Seth Rogan. We honestly can’t wait to see what she has in store for us in the coming years.
6 Darling Glow
Despite having some scary health concerns that plagued her throughout the years, Charlize still manages to glow. While filming Aeon Flux in Germany, the actress fell while filming some back handsprings and managed to get a herniated disc in her neck. Not only that, but she also managed to catch a series stomach virus back in 2009 (something they said she caught while shooting overseas).
5 Being A Beaming Mom Helps Too
Charlize is the mother of two children, Jackson and August, both of whom are adopted (and yes, Charlize is an EXCELLENT single mother). The family lives in Los Angeles together. Earlier this year, she revealed that Jackson is a transgender girl. Charlize has said that both her children “were born who they are”.
4 Old Hollywood Glam
Charlize has a look that we don’t see too often these days in Hollywood – which is the look of a Hollywood starlet from the town’s heydays back in the late 30s, 40s, and 50s. I’m talking about Lauren Bacall, Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe with the strength of Kathrine Hepburn. She’s definitely a technicolored throwback.
3 Highlighter Done Right
Apart from acting, Charlize is also the face of different cosmetic brands and Dior perfume. While she still looks amazing without makeup, she can strike down Gods when she showcases her different looks in numerous Dior ads. With a face like hers, chances are she’s going to be attached to that campaign for many years to come.
2 Pulling Off Any And All Hairstyles
Charlize has been known to change her look at the drop of a hat, and she’s doing so again in the movie Bombshell, which is being released this December. In it, she plays Fox News journalist Megyn Kelly during the Roger Ailes scandal. In it, Charlize is the spitting image of Kelly. Do we smell another Oscar on the horizon?
1 Ageless Starlet
It’s hard to believe that Charlize is only 44-years old and that we have so many more years of experiencing her phenomenal and luminous talent. We’re pretty sure she’ll take some breaks in between works, but we can always hope that she returns to the screen more powerful than ever.
