Over the years, we have seen Ryan Seacrest go from a television host to an entertainment mogul. His is a success story that many can only aspire to have.

According to Biography, Seacrest has always shown a keen interest in becoming a media personality even at a young age. He listened to DJs such as Rick Dees and Casey Kasem growing up. He studied them and reportedly copied the way they talked. And then, later in life, he managed to get an internship at a local radio station. Essentially, this was how fate intervened.

Seacrest was only 19 years when he decided to drop out of the University of Georgia to pursue radio and television. One of his first gigs was hosting the children’s television show “Click.” And then, he moved on to “American Idol” and eventually became a household name. Now, Seacrest also comes with other titles – radio host, executive producer, and businessman. The New York Times also pointed out that Seacrest is sometimes known as “the new Dick Clark.”

Indeed, in show business, Seacrest is known as a hard worker. Meanwhile, there are also instances where you may think he’s controversial. Just check out these sketchy things about him that everyone seems to ignore.

20 He once clogged a Kardashian toilet

During a visit to “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Seacrest talked about a time when he was invited into the Kardashian home and encountered a certain toilet. He recalled, “As I was seated, I was thinking about the menu of options, the things you can do when you’re finished. And so, I chose one and I pressed it, and the water level began to rise underneath me. I thought, Oh god, I better hit the other button. And it began to rise even more.” In the end, Seacrest said he did his business then closed the lid.

19 He once mistook Jeffrey Tambor for another actor

It’s one thing to mistake an actor for another actor. It’s another to be mistaken for another actor who’s already dead. Well, that’s exactly what Seacrest had done when he chatted with Jeffrey Tambor on “Live with Kelly and Ryan.” At first, he said that Tambor’s roles in “Arrested Development,” “The Larry Sanders Show” and “Transparent” were “unforgettable. But then, he also said, “We talked about the things you have done and are doing, but to me, you’re the scary guy on the subway in ‘Ghost.’” Tambor replied, “Oh, this is horrible. You’re gonna be embarrassed. That’s not me. He’s dead.”

18 He also failed to recognize Aaron Rodgers

Apparently, it’s not just actors that Seacrest fails to recognize. It appears that he also can’t distinguish a popular NFL star from the crowd even if he’s standing right in front of him. The interaction occurred at Ellen DeGeneres’ birthday party. And while on his radio show, Seacrest explained, “So it was a my [sic] bad…. He could tell I was being honest and I really didn’t put it all together but these guys look different when they’re not in uniform.”

17 He wanted to take full control of American Idol reboot

Over the years, the show “American Idol” went through distinct periods of highs and lows. And when the time came for a reboot, it was reported that Seacrest was determined to practically take command of the show. And in 2017, TMZ reported that Seacrest wanted to get an executive producer title for the show. And while he didn’t get the credit in the end, he did get a pretty hefty paycheck. According to Variety, Seacrest managed to negotiate $12 million for himself for the season.

16 He was reportedly jealous of Katy Perry

While Seacrest certainly stood to make a lot of money from the reboot, he reportedly was still miffed that singer Katy Perry was being granted a much bigger pay to come on the show. In fact, her salary was said to be $25 million. In a book entitled “American Idol: The Untold Story,” author Richard Rushfield also wrote, “[He] was suddenly asking himself why he would come back for a 16th season at a salary [much smaller than that] of the newcomer judge.”

15 He had a falling out with Simon Cowell

Over the years, “American Idol” fans have witnessed Seacrest and former judge Simon Cowell banter in between performances. And it soon became clear that there was some tension between the two. The situation seemed to have boiled over following the performance of Chris Sligh in the sixth season. Cowell had called Seacrest “sweetheart” and Seacrest responded, “Don't call me sweetheart. I don't want that kind of relationship. We'll just work together – that's fine with me.”

14 He pissed off Ariana Grande

Apparently, Seacrest rubbed Ariana Grande the wrong way when the pop star stopped by his radio program for an interview in 2016. During their conversation, Seacrest pointed out that Grande confirmed her relationship with Mac Miller on Instagram. However, Grande was clearly unwilling to talk about it. In the end, Grande proclaimed, “If I post something, that’s what I’m willing to share at the moment. But it doesn’t mean that you, Ryan Seacrest, with millions of listeners, are entitled to more information.”

13 He has beef with Scarlett Johansson

In February 2017, Seacrest failed to make a good impression on actress Scarlett Johansson when he interviewed her at the Academy Awards red carpet. According to Glamour, Seacrest asked, “Do you actually wear the shoes that you are wearing tonight for the rehearsal?” In response, Johansson remarked, “What a ridiculous question.”

12 He had a bizarre interview with Lady Gaga

It appears that Seacrest has been doing a number of awkward interviews in recent years. One interview that’s still making people cringe involves Lady Gaga. The awkward moment happened earlier this year during the red carpet for the Grammy Awards. On camera, Seacrest remarked, “And next it’s the Oscars with a live performance with Bradley (Cooper) at the Oscars…” he then passed the microphone to Gaga who looked shocked. She then remarked, “You’re like, answer my question but I’m not asking one.”

11 His interview with Trevor Noah was rather awkward

Apparently, things also didn’t go so smooth when Seacrest caught up with Trevor Noah on the 91st Academy Awards red carpet. According to reports, Seacrest had pulled Noah aside for a quick interview and congratulated him on the nominations for “Black Panther.” In response, Noah shot down Seacrest, explaining to him that his role in the movie was small. He also went on to praise Ryan Coogler and the cast for their hard work.

10 He didn’t do well on the red carpet with Richard E Grant either

Things also got awkward on the red carpet when Seacrest proceeded to speak with actor Richard E Grant at the Oscars red carpet in February 2019. Perhaps, Seacrest is not used to British sarcasm? According to the Mirror, Seacrest was asking how the actor bonded with actress Melissa McCarthy. Grant explained, “We met on a Friday two years ago and we started working on Monday. It was instant.” He then proclaimed, “She's having my twins in August.” It was clearly a joke, but Seacrest seemed to think that it was not.

9 He reportedly tried to relocate Kelly Ripa and their show

According to a report from Radar Online, Seacrest wanted to bring “LIVE!” to Los Angeles and uproot co-host Kelly Ripa in the process. A source told the publication, “That's when Kelly put her foot down and said, 'No way!' Kelly pointed out that her production company with husband Mark Consuelos, Milojo, is based in New York... She also pointed out that her son, Joaquin, is about to begin high school in New York City. Producers have offered to have Joaquin home-schooled or provide a tutor for him, but she won't pull him out of school.”

8 He was denied entry into Jennifer Lopez’s 50th birthday bash

By now, you’d imagine that Seacrest has gotten pretty chummy with Jennifer Lopez. However, that doesn’t mean that the entertainment mogul could readily enter her 50th birthday party. According to People, Seacrest initially couldn't get in because his name was not on the guest list. However, after someone made a quick phone call, Seacrest was finally let into the party. He sat beside the birthday celebrant and her fiance, Alex Rodriguez, too.

7 His foundation paid more to his family instead of allotting money to charities

Over the years, Seacrest has been determined to give back through the Ryan Seacrest Foundation. However, the 2018 report from Showbiz 411 revealed that the foundation paid the Seacrest family more than it gave to charity. The foundation's Form 990 in 2016 stated that Seacrest’s parents, Meredith and Gary, received $310,603. Meanwhile, the organization only gave $303,148 in grants.

6 His stylist accused him of awful behavior

In 2017, Seacrest became the subject of much scrutiny when his former stylist, Suzie Hardy, accused him of harassment. According to a report from Variety, Hardy claimed that Seacrest had the habit of “grinding against her while clad only in his underwear... and at one point slapping her buttock so hard that it left a large welt still visible hours later.” She also claimed that she only stayed on the job because it allowed her to pick up her child from school during workdays.

5 That same stylist lost her job two weeks after she reported allegations to HR

Following Hardy’s accusations, the stylist reportedly lost her job just weeks after reporting the matter to the network’s HR department. According to the Daily Mail, Hardy didn’t work for three years following her dismissal. Meanwhile, in 2018, Radar Online reported that Kathy Griffin hired Hardy for a job. A source told the publication, “When the rich and famous want to unload their luxury items, they call Suzie to go through their closet and see what can be resold for some quick cash. Kathy had Suzie over to go through hers, and they got on like gangbusters!”

4 A witness came forward to confirm these allegations

As the story of allegations against Seacrest developed, a witness also came out in support of Hardy. The unnamed witness told Kate Snow of NBC News, “She would go to tie his shoe and Ryan would shove her head toward his crotch. I saw that more than once.” Meanwhile, Seacrest had continuously denied the allegations against him.

3 It is believed that he kept his alleged victim from appearing on Megyn Kelly

According to Hardy, Seacrest is the reason why her interview “Megyn Kelly Today” was canceled. The morning show shares the same parent company (NBC Universal) with E! Network. Hardy told DailyMail.com, “Everything was set, my attorney [Howard King] and I were going to be on a plane to New York City, the pre-interview was supposed to be Friday [March 16] and the taping that following Monday [March 19]. But the morning of our flight, they called my lawyer and abruptly canceled. No explanation was given.”

2 His company has also been accused of unfairly portraying Janice Dickinson

Recently, Seacrest’s production company has also been embroiled in a legal battle with former supermodel Janice Dickinson. She alleged that it forged her signature for a release of “Shahs of Sunset.” Dickinson further accused the company of fabricating a controversy, which portrayed her in a negative light. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a judge later rejected Dickinson’s lawsuit.

Earlier this year, former “America’s Next Top Model” contestant Kiara Belen also filed a lawsuit against Seacrest’s production company due to a scene aired during an episode of “Shahs of Sunset,” which left her feeling “completely violated.” The complaint alleged that the filming was done in a “private dressing area.” According to a report from Forbes, Belen is seeking compensatory, exemplary, general and punitive damages. In addition, she is also demanding for special damages “in excess of $100,000 according to proof at trial.”
