Even though the popular FX drama series Sons of Anarchy has been over for a few years now, some fans are still asking some baffling questions and have thought up some crazy theories for what verses why when it comes to their favorite characters.

The show, which premiered in 2008 and ended after seven seasons in 2014, told the story of the SAMCRO motorcycle gang in the fictional town of Charming, California. The storylines mainly centered on lead character Jackson “Jax” Teller (Charlie Hunnam) and his family and friends who led a life of crime and ruled over the town of Charming. Jax and his step-father, Clay Morrow, run the SAMCRO club and often clash violently in different ways throughout the entire series.

Fans have often sat on different (and warped) theories over the past few years because they just can’t seem to let go of the cult favorite show. Here are some of the craziest theories we could pull up.

20 Of Course, We All Know The Hamlet Theory

FX

The “Hamlet” theory was a big one when the show first premiered. It was that the show itself was a loose and modern-day adaptation of William Shakespeare’s drama. Jax, of course, being the title character Hamlet: born rulers, both have fathers who are in the ground and are forced to live under the hand of a powerful relative (this case being Jax’s stepfather, Clay).

19 Sopranos, SOA Crossover?

Bustle

Remember when Drea de Matteo (who played Jax’s ex Wendy, on SOA) played the fatal Adriana La Cervna on HBO’s hit mob drama The Sopranos? Well, some fans believe that Adriana really wasn’t offed on the HBO show and actually went into to witness protection program to become Wendy in the SOA universe. Out of the realm of possibility? Maybe not.

18 Did The King Sacrifice Himself To Save His Family?

FX

One of the major storylines in the series revolved around John “JT” Teller, who was supposed to be Jax’s actual father who had passed away years before. It was suggested that JT may have taken his own life in order to save both SAMCRO and his own family (which happens to fall in line with the whole Shakespeare thing).

17 Chibs Is Actually A Rat

FX

When Jax left, it was Chibs, his right-hand man, who actually took the reigns of the club, yet a lot of fans believe that Chibs’ loyalty didn’t actually rest with SAMCRO, but the Irish. A lot of Reddit users believe that the Irish had been using Chibs from the get-go and their endgame was him eventually taking over for Jax.

16 Little Abel Is Actually…Jax’s Father?

FX

Do you believe in reincarnation? Well, a lot of Reddit users do and some have even claimed that young Abel, Jax’s son on the show, is actually the incarnation of JT himself. This could be because history managed to repeat itself with Jax (paralleling his own father) at the end of the series.

15 Jax Is Not Really JT’s Son

FX

This one was a popular one: that Jax was actually Clay’s real son (considering the fact that both Gemma and Clay got into a relationship so soon after JT’s death) because we never actually saw Jax’s birth certificate like we did his brother’s on the show. Was it possible that it was hidden from fans’ eyes for a specific reason?

14 Abel Will Actually Follow In Jax’s Footsteps

FX

Despite all the steps that Jax took in order to make sure that this NEVER happened, what are we to actually know? Abel was actually last seen holding the infamous “SON” ring, which was given to him by his grandmother, indicating that there is a high possibility that she would make sure he took his rightful place at the table when he came of age.

13 Is Jax Still Alive?

FX

Okay, so we all saw the end of the show and Jax riding to his doom in front of that semi-truck. But did it actually happen? Or did Jax fake his own death in order to save himself and go into witness protection? Actor Charlie Hunnam has said that Jax is officially gone, but characters have a way of being resurrected for spin-off purposes…

12 Who Was That Homeless Woman?

FX

If you’re a fan of the show, you know what we’re talking about when we reference the person known as “the homeless woman”. She was a character who was seen throughout the series, but no one really knew who she was or what she was doing there. A lot of people believe that she’s actually the reaper since she’s around before characters meet their end.

11 Multiple Shows, Same Universe

AMC

A lot of Reddit users seem to believe that SOA, Breaking Bad, Scandal, and House of Cards (among other shows) happen to be all set in the same universe because a lot of the events that took place in each show seem to crossover. Now, this falls out of logic sense – mainly because each show appears on a different network.

10 Lincoln Potter Is Actually JT

FX

Lincoln Potter actually was an assistant U.S. lawyer in the series, but is it possible that the character is actually JT? He has the charisma and charm and certainly has the intellect enough to pull off changing his identity and go from being a club leader, faking his own death, to a lawyer. Just a theory, but not a far fetched one.

9 Gemma Controlled Everything

FX

From the pilot episode, we all knew that Gemma was bad news. But some Reddit users actually believe she’s the living embodiment of Anarchy itself. “Gemma is anarchy and the Sons are her sons. She uses them when Clay was [president], she threatens people with them. She sees them as family and since she's a fierce mother, they all suffer,” one user says.

8 Tara Was Really A Snitch

FX

In the end, it was Gemma who actually believed that Tara, the love of Jax’s life, was actually an informant, which she was dead wrong about. Gemma ended up offing Tara in a dramatic fashion before realizing her mistake. But was she actually wrong? Some fans do believe that Tara, was in fact, a snitch and that Gemma had it right the whole time.

7 Nah, It Couldn’t Have Been All A Dream

Fanpop

Could the entire ending all just been a dream of Jax’s? Well, according to Sutter, this may (or may not be) true. Sutter had once stated that before the show actually ended, that HIS dream ending was that the universe was all just a dream of Jax’s. Nah…this is one that even I refuse to want to believe.

6 JT And Felipe Were Old War Buddies

FX

This has more to do with the SOA spin-off The Mayans, which had to do with another MC that existed in the same town and were rivals of SAMCRO. This one was that JT and Felipe Reyes actually served together in Vietnam, which is why the rival leader was soft on Jax for the most part.

5 Plane Crash + Ethan Zobelle = Conspiracy

FX

At the beginning of season three, it was said that Ethan Zobelle had perished in a plane crash, but some eagle-eyed viewers actually believe the shot that shows Gemma watching the news story of the crash was set up in a particular way, actually saying that SHE, or the club, was actually responsible for the demise of the character.

4 Make Way For The Shield Talk

USA

Actor Michael Chiklis actually played the lead character Vic Mackey on The Shield, which was a series also created by SOA showrunner Kurt Sutter. Chiklis was actually the truck driver who sealed Jax’s fate in the final episode of SOA, which leads some people to believe that the character who was driving WAS actually detective Mackey.

3 Jarry Will Work For The MC

FX

So the cop Jarry and MC favorite Chibs had a little love thing going on on the show. Even though fans never were able to witness what actually became of the pair, some suggest that there was actually more to the couple rather than just love. Some suggest that Jarry was actually ON the MC’s payroll, which, frankly, wouldn’t surprise anyone.

2 Jax Went Above And Beyond For His Children In His Final Decision

FX

Fans of the show know how far Jax would reach in order to save his own children. In fact, everything leading up to Jax’s final moment in the series revolved around his decision to not let his kids follow in his footsteps. He went far to ensure that those he was close to NOT allow his sons to become part of the club.

1 Clay Wasn’t All That Bad

FX

Sure, Clay appeared to be the roughest member of SAMCRO and ruled over the club as president with a heavy hand (especially when it came to Jax). Thing is, while everyone around him seemed to like to rat out each other, Clay NEVER did. Everything was about respect when it came to Clay – the club was everything to him and he proved it.
