For 16 seasons now, we have watched as the surgeons of Grey Sloan Memorial have grown into the doctors they are today, found love, lost love, had families and even gotten into a bit of trouble and were forced to leave.

Grey’s Anatomy is a perfect mix of romance, drama, action and real-life experiences. Shonda Rhimes really does an amazing job making sure there is a little of everything in it. It’s the perfect soap opera one could say.

Not everything can be perfect though.

Every show, no matter how amazing it is, is bound to make a mistake somewhere down the line, especially one that has been on the air as long as Grey’s has.

Here are 20 things that have happened on Grey’s Anatomy that we all chose to ignore.

20 Everyone Should Have Been In Jail Or Fired A Long Time Ago

The surgeons of Grey’s Anatomy are known for getting themselves in some high-stake situations. Situations that should be grounds for suspension, termination or even jail time.

Take the Callie incident for example. According to screenrant.com, Callie left a sponge in a patient that later caused an infection that cost the patient not one leg, but two.

How was she not fired for that?

19 Izzie And George's Relationship Should Have Never Happened

It’s not uncommon for friends to take their relationship to the next step.

For George and Izzy though, their relationship should have just stayed friends.

According to thetalko.com, once Izzy and George decided to go from friends to lovers, it didn’t take long for fans to realize they lacked chemistry. It was awkward to watch, and fans were happy when writers finally ended it.

18 All Of Meredith Grey's Accidents

Meredith Grey seems to have more lives than a cat with how many accidents she has been in.

According to thetalko.com, there was the live bomb, the drowning, the plane crash, the patient attack, another plane incident, and the ambulance crash. Luckily, there hasn’t been any attempt on her life recently though.

She truly has an angel watching over her.

17 What Are They Paying The Nurses For?

Even though Grey’s Anatomy isn’t a legit doctor show, they do an amazing job portraying it as if it was. Unfortunately, they still get some things wrong.

For example, according to thetalko.com, the doctors do a lot of the work that nurses should be doing. Distributing medicine, drawing blood, monitoring patients, these are all tasks nurses should be doing, not doctors.

16 What Was Up With Izzie Leaving And Coming Back?

Izzie and Karev’s relationship was riddled with ups and downs, even before Izzie became sick with terminal cancer.

According to thetalko.com, shortly after their wedding, Izzie received treatment that saved her life, and then she skipped town, only to pop back up later down the road with the intention of winning Alex back. She then left again when he turned her down.

15 A Musical Episode Is Another Thing That Should Have Never Happened

During an episode of Grey’s, Callie Torres is thrown through a windshield after a car accident that almost ends her life and her unborn babies'.

The creators of the show thought it would be a great idea to make the entire episode into a musical.

According to thetalko.com though, it fell flat. In the end, it just felt a little too forced and even awkward sometimes.

14 Why Didn't Christina Go To Derek's Funeral?

At the end of season 10, we had to say a tearful goodbye to Christina Yang, as she moved to Switzerland.

According to screenrant.com, it's hard to believe that after everything that happened, Christina wouldn’t attend Derek’s funeral to be there not only to say goodbye, but to be there for Meredith during her time of need.

She went from being a boss at Seattle Grace to ceasing to exist.

13 Everyone Was So Mean To Sweet George

George O’Malley was constantly being getting dismissed and treated rudely by his so-called “friends.”

According to thetalko.com, to top it all off, instead of just having him move away like Izzie, he is hit by a bus that leaves him so unrecognizable the doctors don’t know who he. Even at his funeral, the other characters couldn’t take him seriously.

At least he died a hero though.

12 Everyone Has Dated Basically Everyone

Grey’s Anatomy has been going for 16 seasons now, and throughout those 16 seasons, there have been a lot of hookups, marriages, and divorces.

According to screenrant.com, up until season 10, before Owen Hunt came up with the anti-fraternization regulation, a lot of subordinates regularly slept with superiors. Christina and Preston, Derek and Meredith, Callie and George, the list goes on.

11 Was The Denny Ghost Story Line Really Necessary?

Denny Duquette was one character that captured the hearts of many fans before his devastating write-off.

According to thetalko.com, Denny’s character was only written into the show to help diminish Izzie’s character and then he has written off. Thing is, they decided to bring him back when Izzie gets cancer, as a hallucination.

They should have just left things alone after killing him off.

10 Meredith's Ever Growing Family

Finding out Meredith had a sister was a big “GASP” of a moment.

According to thetalko.com, after Lexie’s demise and then Christina leaving, the show’s creators realized they had messed up. To try and fix their mistake, they decided to come up with a bizarre story about Meredith having another sister, Maggie.

It’s just a little too “soap opera-ish” though.

9 Derek Wasn't A Very Good Partner

Derek Shepard won over the hearts of many during his time on the show. Was he really that dreamy though?

According to thetalko.com, Derek constantly blamed Meredith for his mistakes, he gave her the cold shoulder when he was in one of his “moods,” and let’s not forget all the times he put his work before family.

8 Owen And Amelia Were Wrong For One Another From The Start

Amelia and Owen’s relationship was an unorthodox one from the start. Deciding that life was too short to wait, they got hitched without really being together very long.

According to screenrant.com, the two bonded over their past traumas, but that’s all they really had in common. Their relationship was a lot of fighting, a lot of separating, and just lacked any real romance.

7 Arizona Was Kind Of Abusive To Callie

Arizona fell into a deep depression after surviving the plane crash and losing a leg.

According to screenrant.com, what didn’t make sense though is the degree of anger Arizona unleashed on Callie and how long it went on. She was verbally abusive to her at home and in front of other people, even though all Callie did was save her life.

6 Bailey's Sudden OCD Bout

Early on the show, Bailey becomes traumatized after three of her patients receive fatal post-op infections, which later turns out to be from faulty gloves.

After the incident, she develops obsessive-compulsive disorder, which she eventually gets treatment for.

According to screenrant.com, in a few weeks’ time, Bailey develops OCD and then in the blink of an eye, is cured via medicine, which is unheard of.

5 Seattle Is An Omen

To keep a show running as long as Grey’s Anatomy, creators need to come up with events in order to keep fans' attention.

According to screenrant.com, Seattle seems to be an omen with how many disasters it’s had. The train crash, the ferry crash, the plane crash, the ambulance crash, the bomb, the shooting, the sinkhole, and the list goes on and on.

4 April's Sudden Personality Switch

After the merger between hospitals, we were introduced to a slew of new characters.

According to thetalko.com, when April Kepner made her grand entrance, she immediately got on the nerves of everyone she encountered. Not only was she a brown-noser, but also rude and deceitful.

After she was fired though, they brought her back with an entirely new personality. Everyone seemed to like her all a sudden.

3 Interns Constantly Coming And Going

When the show first aired, the interns were the main focal point of the show. As they moved up in rank, the shows focus remained on them, even though there was a brand-new group of characters introduced as the hospital's new interns.

According to thetalko.com, a few of the interns introduced didn’t last long. Some of them sort of faded into the background, while others just disappeared or were written off.

2 April Was A Little Too Cruel To Jackson

When April first got pregnant with Jackson’s child, the couple were left to make a hard decision, a decision that would eventually end their marriage.

According to screenrant.com, while we understand that a tragedy like that can bring out the worst in people, the way that April acted toward Jackson was incredibly selfish. Jackson was in pain and needed her, yet she kept leaving and disregarding his feelings.

1 The Timeline

The first three seasons of Grey’s Anatomy takes place during the interns' first year at the hospital. During this year, a lot happened.

According to screenrant.com, Meredith slept with and broke up with Derek, Addison and Mark made their appearance, Meredith slept with George, Christina got left at the altar, George married and divorced Callie, and then there is the whole thing with Izzie and Denny.
