Animal cafes have been a trend for quite some time now. Most major cities have seen a cat cafe or a dog cafe crop up in recent years, but perhaps a little rarer are cafes specializing in other animals like bunnies or sheep (though for those cafes, you might have to travel a little further). Check out these amazing animal cafes – perfect for the animal lover, or someone who just misses their beloved kitty while travelling.
9. Kotori Cafe – Tokyo, Japan
Truly unique, Kotori Cafe is none other than a bird cafe! That’s right, as you’re sipping a cup of Earl Grey or Chai Tea, you can watch as the cute and colourful birds fly around the cafe. I may just have to plan a trip to Tokyo to see this.
8. Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium – London, UK
This speciality cat cafe is not your run-of-the-mill pet cafe. Yes, there are adorable kitties lounging around, but Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium is a high-end establishment. Rather than your regular tea and coffee, this cafe is home to one of the best “high teas” in all of London. This way you get to enjoy your Victoria sponge cake while simultaneously petting a fluffy cat.
7. Bark Bunnies Cafe – Subang Jaya, Malaysia
Why, oh, why doesn’t North America have cool pet cafes like this?! Bark Bunnies Cafe in Malaysia is home to several adorable bunnies. But that’s not all – the cafe also houses dogs and hedgehogs. Wouldn’t you just love to look at a bunny and a hedgehog napping together while you sip a cappuccino?
6. Yokohama Reptile Cafe – Yokohama, Japan
5. Le Cafe des Chat – Paris, France
As if a Parisian cafe couldn’t get any better! At Le Cafe des Chat it’s not the supreme patisserie that draws in customers, rather, it’s the adorable cats of all breeds that live in this establishment. In addition to the cats and delicious food, the cafe itself has a beautiful, old-timey interior.
4. Sakuragaoka Cafe – Tokyo, Japan
Apparently goat cafes are a real thing! The Sakuragoaka Cafe in Tokyo houses none other than adorable goats for you to stare at and pet as you sip your latte. The goats are kept in pens making this cafe sort of like a petting zoo but much more low key.
3. La Gatoteca – Madrid, Spain
Another cat cafe, but this one is one of the best I’ve seen. Filled with scratching posts and cat toys, this cafe in the heart of Madrid is a great option for travellers missing their beloved cat from home. Oh, and the coffee’s not bad either!
2. Huskitory Cafe – Melaka, Malaysia
Taking the regular dog cafe up a notch, the Huskitory Cafe in Malaysia specializes in one type of dog in particular: the husky. We all know huskies are one of the most beautiful dog breeds in existence (seriously, you can get lost in those eyes for days), so in my humble opinion, this cafe sounds like a home run.
1. Thanks Nature Cafe – Seoul, South Korea
Nicknamed the “Sheep Cafe,” Thanks Nature Cafe in Korea has lots of farm animals – most importantly, sheep. Unlike the goat cafe in Tokyo, the animals are not kept in pens as if they are in a petting zoo so you are free to interact with them from your table. Make sure to visit in the cooler months! Seoul gets too hot for the sheep so they go back to their farm during the hotter months.
