Photographer Spends 9 Years Taking Pictures Of People Going To Work (And The Results Are Surprising)

For the last 9 years, a Danish photographer named Peter Funch has been taking photographs of the same place, at the exact same time. And later on, when he looked back on these pictures, he realized that he took several pictures of the same people a bunch of times, when these people looked exactly the same, while the pictures were made some time apart.

When he made this realization, he decided to make a new project, which he named “42nd and Vanderbilt”, after the location in New York where he took the pictures of all of these people who look the same.

All of the pictures are taken sometime between 2007 and 2016, at precisely 8:30 to 9:30 in the morning, on the same street in New York City. While this photographer took some of the photos to edit them later on, he realized that all of those daily shootings, that happened at the same time, and at the same place, have yielded a very surprising result. It meant that you could clearly see each of these people had a ritual that they repeated at the same time, at the same place, every day, throughout all of those years.

There have been other occasions of people noticing odd things via the power of street photography, so we’re aware that strange things can happen. But what you probably never realized is that every single day, as the years' pass, you might be doing the exact same things, eating the same foods, drinking the same order from the same coffee shop, have the exact same haircut, and even go as far as wearing clothes that have a similar color. The photographer also found that plenty of the people that were in the photos he took, also had the same facial expressions every morning that he took the photos. They have been wearing clothes that consistently look similar, which can make people think whether that means a consistent life or a cliche? It up to you to see for yourself and make a decision. And at the end of today, make sure that you double check your wardrobe and your daily routine to see if you’re just like one of the people in these pictures, or if you do different things to spice up your life.
