Even though the binge-watching trend only started a few years ago, that doesn't mean we can only eat up full seasons of new shows in a single day. While streaming sites are certainly producing some top quality original programs, sometimes all we are looking for is something a little nostalgic. Even with shows like Netflix's Stranger Things being set in the 80s, it's still not the same as watching something that actually came from that time.
In today's article, we will be remembering all of our favorite 90s TV shows. From Boy Meets World to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, there is just no denying that they don't make em' like this anymore. Even though budgets have increased and effects have gotten better, today's shows will never be able to compete with the wholesome storylines of these 90s shows and the lessons we learned from them. 20 The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air (Netflix)
That's right everyone, all 6 seasons of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air are available on Netflix. This is the series that gave Will Smith his start. Created by the talented Quincy Jones, the series told the story of Will Smith (yes, he played himself), a boy from a bad part of Philadelphia who is sent to live with his rich relatives in Bel-Air.
19 Sabrina The Teenage Witch (Hulu/Prime)
This magical 1996 series managed to stay on the air for 7 seasons! At the beginning, a young Sabrina Spellman learns that she is a witch. A classic storyline for sure, but thanks to her aunts Hilda and Zelda and their talking cat Salem, the show never got old. Start streaming this one today and we promise you won't regret it!
18 Freaks And Geeks (Prime)
Even though there is only 1 season of Freaks and Geeks, it is totally timeless. The 18 episodes hold an impressive 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and that rating isn't overstating things at all. With now-familiar faces like James Franco, Jason Segel and Seth Rogen all starring in this coming-of-age comedy, it's excellence speaks for itself!
17 That '70s Show (Netflix)
Since That '70s show started in 1998 and ran until 2006, it's probably more of a 00s show than a 90s one. But who are we kidding? The 90s didn't end until at least 2008! This is the series that launched the careers of huge Hollywood names like Ashton Kutcher, Topher Grace and of course, Mila Kunis. The fact that Kelso and Jackie are now married in real life is reason enough to go back a watch!
16 The X-Files (Hulu/Prime)
Back in the 90s, The X-Files was just about as spooky as TV got. That being said, if anyone was too young to enjoy it without getting frightened back then, we can assure you that over the years, the scare-factor has faded. The effects are outdated and with series like AHS now available, The X-Files just isn't as scary as it once was. Totally worth a watch!
15 Saved By The Bell (Hulu/Prime)
Saved by the Bell is a 90s classic. It was a show about the students of the fictional Bayside High. While the popular guys fought over the popular girls, the nerdy Screech was always there to make sure we were laughing. It was perfectly wholesome and oh, so very 90s.
14 Buffy The Vampire Slayer (Hulu)
Now that streaming is a possibility, there is no excuse for not having seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Not only is the series totally unique (even to this day), but it was actually very groundbreaking back in the 90s. Creator Joss Whedon dared to go places with this series that nobody else was willing to go. The result? One of the best female heroes our world has ever seen.
13 Daria (Hulu)
Oh yes, we are looking at 90s cartoons in this list too! Daria premiered back in 1997 and quickly became the realest cartoon of all time. Daria's sarcastic ways and disdain for everyone except for her besties, Jane Lane, was almost too relatable to be allowed. There is a reason why Daria didn't stop trending when the 90s ended!
12 Home Improvement (Prime)
Many may not remember by this point, but Tim Allen was not the only one who built a career off of this popular 90s sitcom. After starring in the first 2 seasons, Pamela Anderson was able to create a name for herself on the small-screen. For several years during the 90s, Home Improvement was one of the most watched series in the US.
11 Friends (Coming Soon To HBO Max)
We know for a fact that many have continued to watch this one over the years. Friends is still one of the most popular sitcoms of all time and the outrage was real when Netflix revealed that it would be taken off of their streaming site. However, HBO Max has scored the rights to this legendary series, so we'll have access to all 10 seasons again once they launch in May, 2020.
10 Family Matters (Hulu/Prime)
Back in the day, Family Matters was breaking all kind of records. The series lasted for a whopping 9 seasons and considering it was a spin-off, that number is truly impressive. The character of Steve Urkel is still used in pop culture references all of the time, as he's become a household name. This is also quite impressive, since Steve was originally just a secondary character written into the 2nd season.
9 Boy Meets World (Disney+)
When Disney+ launched towards the end of last year, 90s kids freaked over the opportunity to rewatch all 7 seasons of Boy Meets World. There is honestly just so much to love about this 90s classic. Not only did we literally get to watch the cast grow from kids to adults, but along the way, this series taught us more valuable lessons than we can count. Corey & Topanga Forever!
8 Charmed (Netflix/Prime)
What could possibly be more 90s than a show featuring Alyssa Milano, Shannen Doherty and Rose McGowan? Honestly, nothing really! This cult classic told the story of the Halliwell sisters. Not only did the Halliwell girls have to deal with regular dramas, but they also happened to be the 3 most powerful witches in the world. Obviously, a lot went down over the course of 8 seasons...
7 Seinfeld (Hulu/Prime)
Seinfeld is highly believed to be one of the greatest television shows of all time. While their formula of a group of friends living regular lives in New York City isn't totally original, the characters and their dialogue lead his show to scoring the Writers Guild of America's second slot for Best Written TV Series of All Time (second only to The Sopranos, of course).
6 Beverly Hills, 90210 (Hulu/Prime)
After the heartbreaking passing of actor Luke Perry just last year, many have wanted to go back a rewatch him in this 90s television drama. Beverly Hills, 90210 was a high school drama like any other, though back in the 90s, the fact that they were tackling real issues like suicide and AIDs, was a pretty big deal.
5 3rd Rock From The Sun (Prime)
While 3rd Rock from the Sun might not be as highly rated as other 90s sitcoms like Friends and Seinfeld, the series did hold its own for 6 seasons. The series is about 4 aliens who take up residence on Earth (which in their opinion, is not all that impressive a planet) to observe the way humans live. Talk about an original storyline!
4 Darkwing Duck (Disney+)
The best part about the launch of Disney+ was surprisingly not even finally having access to all of their classic movies from the vault, but instead having access to all of the old school Disney Channel shows we had forgotten about. The nostalgia is real when watching Darkwing Duck. The 3 seasons alone are enough of a reason to start a free trial!
3 The Simpsons (Disney+)
Since The Simpsons has been on for more than 30 years now, it's hard to strictly call it a 90s show. However, since season 1 did premiere in 1989, we feel like it still counts. When Disney+ launched, many were quick to notice that most of its catalogue was geared towards children. However, the clever folks at Disney knew that if they had every season of The Simpsons available, they'd score the older crowd as well.
2 Full House (Netflix)
Not only are all 8 seasons of Full House available on Netflix, but the streaming site also offers up 5 seasons of Fuller House, the 2016 reboot. While we won't get into the new series, we will say that the original Full House is just as heartwarming today as it was in the 90s. In 20 years from now, we will still be obsessed with Uncle Jesse and his mullet.
1 Disney's Recess (Disney+)
In the 90s, Disney's Recess was THE show to watch on Saturday mornings. The series told the story of a gang of fourth-graders who attended a school where on the playground, there were strict rules that had to be followed. It was the students themselves who created these rules and anyone who dared to break the status quo, was forced to face King Bob.
