Earlier this week, Paramount Pictures announced that the sequel to John Krasinski's hit horror film A Quiet Place will have a theatrical debut on September 17, pushing it back five months from its initial release date of April 23.

This is the fourth time Paramount has pushed back the release for the film. Originally, A Quiet Place 2 was set to premiere in theaters last March, but due to the pandemic, Paramount announced in July that the release date would be pushed back to the fall. As the pandemic continued to progress, Paramount announced that the horror sequel would be pushed back to April 2021.

When the film was first pushed back, Krasinski released a statement stating his desire for the movie to premiere in theaters.

“One of the things I’m most proud of is that people have said our movie is one you have to see all together,” Krasinski wrote.

“Well, due to the ever-changing circumstances of what’s not going on around us, now is clearly not the right time to do that. As insanely excited as we all are for you to see this movie, I’m going to wait to release the film until we can all see it together. So here’s to our group movie date. See you soon!”

Fans of the first film were disappointed to see Paramount delay the release once again. Some took to Twitter to say that they are willing to wait for A Quiet Place 2.

Other fans believe that the horror sequel could still be released in April with places starting to reopen with precautions, though it is worth noting that these responses were all fairly thoroughly bashed by other users for encouraging people to go out during a pandemic.

Still other fans urged Paramount to release the horror sequel to its streaming platform. In March of last year, ViacomCBS launched its own streaming service Paramount Plus, meaning they would be able to avoid any troublesome contracts or negotiations if they wanted to premiere it there.

Many films were forced to premiere on streaming platforms, most unexpectedly, due to the pandemic. A large number 2021 cinematic releases are set to debut on HBO Max for audiences to watch at home.

While fans wait for A Quiet Place 2 to be released, they can rewatch the first installment in the series right now on Hulu.
