Aarti Mann Had A Blast On The Big Bang Theory And Wasn't Ready To Leave

It was a different path to Hollywood for Aarti Mann. She did not act prominently during her high school days, like in plays compared to most other stars in the industry. Instead, according to Washington Examiner, she gained experience in college behind the camera and would work smaller roles in the productions, just to get some experience.

"Mann studied film at New York University. She never acted in plays in high school, but while in college studying film writing and directing, she helped fellow students on their productions," the publication states.

"I convinced them to give me a featured extra part just so I could be in front of the camera," she said.

It was her time on The Big Bang Theory that truly changed her career for the better. Just prior to that, the actress had auditioned for the show Royal Pains, attempting to secure the role of Divya. Nonetheless, despite the rejection, she loved over time on TBBT and in truth, she was ready to return and continue on if offered an extended role.

"I would love to come back and see where it goes with Leonard and Priya," she said, "but no contracts have been signed. I think we'll know by June or July."

Ultimately, she did not return, but it was still quite the experience for her career. Truth be told, Aarti herself admitted it was not a path she ever expected to take.

Aarti Mann Struggled With The Comedy-Style On The Big Bang Theory

Some stars have a blueprint for their careers, as far as Mann goes, appearing on TBBT was not part of that vision. The actress revealed that she wasn't entirely secure about the comedy genre and in addition, she really wasn't sure about how she lucked into getting on the sitcom in the first place.

"I'm asking myself the same question," she said with a laugh when talking about how she got the role.

According to Mann, the transition wasn't the easiest, trying to play a comedic role. During the rehearsals, the actress admitted that Chuck Lorre would at times step in and give her some notes when she was struggling and trying to be overly funny. The message was, be simple.

"Whenever we're rehearsing, I'll try to play it in a more comedic way and [executive producer] Chuck [Lorre] always comes in and says, 'Play it simply. You're beautiful when you're simple.' I'm constantly told to reel it back in. I think I'm giving them what they need for the show. Every sitcom needs their straight man or straight woman."

She came across as exactly that, unlike the rest of the main cast. This is what ultimately made her character so great and in a sense, unlikeable for some fans.

Aarti Mann Is Working On Small TV And Film Projects Today

Prior to TBBT, Mann's biggest role came on Heroes. Following her time as Priya, he career went into a different direction, appearing on major shows such as Suits, Scandal, NCIS: New Orleans, Grey's Anatomy and Never Have I Ever. All shows that cater more to her style of drama.

The actress continues to keep busy today with smaller productions, including a short called Samskara. She does have a major pre-production project in the works made for TV, said to be alongside the likes of Alec Baldwin and Kelsey Grammer.
