The advent of so-called "woke" culture has led many of us to question behaviors that were once normalized. In the rapidly evolving entertainment industry, things that were acceptable just a few years ago may suddenly come under fire and result in cancelations. Accordingly, when we reflect upon acceptance speeches - both past and present - there are more than a few that have not stood the test of time.

Some of these speeches entail the ultimate cringe-fest in which tributes are paid to less than pleasant characters. In other instances, these speeches are not necessarily problematic, but just plain embarrassing in hindsight. From the Oscars to the Grammys, here are 10 acceptance speeches that have aged terribly - and why.

10 Meryl Streep Calls Harvey Weinstein "God"

This debacle will go down in the cringe history books. Nothing has aged quite as badly as Meryl Streep lovingly paying tribute to Harvey Weinstein when she won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in 2012. Ironically, she commends the power of women in Hollywood before thanking "God, Harvey Weinstein. The punisher". Cue mass applause from the audience.

Six years later, Weinstein would be arrested for numerous sexual assaults and is currently serving 23 years for his many crimes, which is essentially a life sentence for a man in his late 60s.

9 R. Kelly Thanks His Fans, Then Things Get Creepy

In 2000, R. Kelly won the Best Male Artist award at the American Music Awards. The musician immediately says that he has "something special for the fans", which itself sounds rather sinister, before he begins singing "R&B Thug".

In particular, Kelly singing the lines "Checking at your body, baby/ Steadily tossing that cash flow, baby" are pretty creepy in hindsight, considering that he is aiming the song at his young female fans, many of whom he is alleged to have preyed upon.

8 Ellen Just Wants To Make People Feel Good

It's hard to believe that just one year ago, Ellen was being honored at the Golden Globes. Accepting the Carol Burnett Award, Ellen proclaims, "All I've ever wanted to do is make people feel good and laugh and there's no greater feeling than when someone tells me that I've made their day better with my show".

This speech has aged terribly, as Ellen has since been accused to creating a toxic work environment, as well as belittling fans and trying to get a waitress fired for wearing chipped nail polish.

7 Diane Keaton Praises Woody Allen

There is a sea of smiling faces when Woody Allen hands Diane Keaton the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017. Unbelievably, this occurred in the same year that MeToo first kicked off, as Keaton proceeds to sing a song to express her gratitude towards Allen.

With so many celebs now denouncing Allen and voicing their regret at ever having worked with him, this tribute seems more than a little tasteless. Even now, Keaton has said that she supports the filmmaker, who has faced abuse allegations for decades.

6 Lea Michele Dominates Her 'Glee' Co-Stars

Hindsight is a powerful thing. When Glee won the award for Best TV Actress: Comedy at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards, most of us probably didn't think much of the fact that Lea Michele steals the limelight from her co-stars, who had previously graced the stage to accepted the award for best TV Comedy.

After Kevin McHale and Amber Riley gave their succinct acceptance speeches, Michele took over when she won the acting accolade. The actress is tearful as she thanks her fellow Glee stars, but on reflection, the tears come across as a little fake, as she has recently been accused of the racially motivated bullying of her castmates.

5 Kevin Spacey Vows Revenge

This one is beyond creepy. Back when he was still the star of House of Cards, Kevin Spacey won the Best Actor for a TV Drama award at the 2015 Golden Globes. When accepting the award, the first line the actor utters is, "This is just the beginning of my revenge." The quip prompts both applause and some audible gasps, which isn't too surprising considering that his harassment of young men was an open secret in Hollywood.

Not only has this speech aged terribly, but it's downright sinister: could he have been alluding to the fact that he believed himself to be untouchable due to his superstar status? At any rate, Spacey could very well be exacting his so-called revenge right now: he is set to star in an Italian movie about a man wrongly accused of sexual abuse. Yikes.

4 George Clooney Gets Extremely Smug

2006 really was a very different time. It's safe to say that people now generally view Hollywood with cynicism, acknowledging the many problematic aspects of the industry, which have come to light thanks to the MeToo movement and exposés of racism.

But none of these movements were in the spotlight in 2006, so George Clooney took it upon himself to praise Hollywood as being at the forefront of the Civil Rights movement when he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Major cringe. The speech became so notorious due to Clooney's perceived smugness that it inspired an entire South Park plot, "Smug Alert" from the animated series' 10th season.

3 Jennifer Lawrence Thanks Harvey Weinstein For "Killing Whoever You Had To Kill"

When accepting the Best Actress Golden Globe for Silver Linings Playbook in 2013, Jennifer Lawrence uttered the immortal line, "Harvey, thank you for killing whoever you had to kill to get me up here today."

Worst of all, the audience laughs, despite Weinstein's creepy habits being a well known open secret in Hollywood. Then again, Lawrence isn't the only actress to have paid tribute to the movie mogul during an acceptance speech.

2 Ben Affleck Says Marriage Is "Work"

Ben Affleck decided to pay tribute to his then wife Jennifer Garner when his movie, Argo, won the Best Picture accolade in 2013. "I want to thank you for working on our marriage for 10 Christmases... It is work, but it's the best kind of work", he says in reference to Garner.

Just 2 years later, the couple separated following a cheating scandal in which Affleck was accused of having an affair with the family nanny. Well, that aged terribly.

1 This Producer Gives A Speech For A Movie That Hasn't Even Won

Finally, who can forget the embarrassing faux pas at the 2017 Oscars when La La Land was erroneously declared the winner? The movie's producer, Jordan Horowitz, proceeded to give an impassioned speech, thanking everybody involved, only to be left red-faced when someone whispers in his ear that presenter Warren Beatty made a terrible mistake.

Conceding defeat, Horowitz declares that Moonlight is the true winner and rather aggressively snatches the Oscars envelope from octogenarian Beatty's hands. This mix up is surely a moment that that the cast and crew of La La Land will never live down.
