TV and movie families are usually, though not always, hallmarks of the ideal home. Shows like Family Matters, Transparent, or Modern Family probably come to mind. In your average family sitcom, the wise parent helps the struggling child, or the child ends up being the one teaching the parent, and at the end of the episode things are all wrapped up nicely and everything works out. These stories provide a sense of warmth for viewers, and maybe even a chance to escape for some people who are not happy with their home life.

People need to remember though that those perfect families aren’t real. They’re 100% fiction and those loving families are just actors working together. While some on-screen families do end up becoming close friends and almost “like family” (a common cliché we hear from actors when a project is about to stop filming) several were not the loving tight-knit groups they pretended to be. Some of the most endearing on-screen father-son, mother-daughter, and guardian-child relationships were total lies, because off-screen the actors hated each other. Sometimes, that hate led to some people getting fired.

6 Jeffrey Tambor And The Cast of 'Transparent'

Although he won several awards for his role as a trans mother on the show Transparent, Tambor has since fallen from grace due to multiple accusations of sexual harassment, particularly from the cast and crew of this Amazon streaming show. When the allegations came out, Tambor, somewhat apologetically, admitted to some of the inappropriate behavior. Although some of the cast did miss having Tambor around for the show’s finale, the majority of the cast, including the three actors who played Tambor’s children on the show Gaby Hoffman, Amy Landecker, and Jay Duplass, were jubilant at the final show’s wrap party. It would seem that the actor was a very toxic presence on the groundbreaking show.

5 Janet Hubert And Will Smith

Okay, technically Hubert did not play Will’s mom on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, but she did play his mother figure and guardian, so it counts! Also, the feud between the original Aunt Viv and Will Smith is too famous to ignore. Google “TV families who did not get along IRL” or “Actors who didn’t get along off-camera” and in almost every single article you will find a reference to Hubert and Smith’s feud. Things were so bad between them that Hubert left the show after season 4 and her character had to be recast. The feud essentially amounts to a “he said / she said” type of argument. Hubert called Smith an “egomaniac” and thought he was obsessed with being the center of attention (well no offense Janet, but he was the star of the show!) and Smith said that he never intentionally tried to offend or bother Hubert, but that no matter what he said that, “to her, I was the antichrist.”

4 Lisa Bonet And Bill Cosby

When Bill Cosby was first accused, and even convicted, of drugging and raping nearly 50 women, many of whom were guest stars on his family-friendly sitcom The Cosby Show, many of his former cast-mates voiced support for the now-disgraced comedian. One former co-star, however, was not having it. Lisa Bonet, the mother of A-lister Zoe Kravitz, played Denise Huxtable on the sitcom. While filming the show, she and Cosby feuded constantly over scheduling, character motivation, and ultimately personality clashes. Bonet was not buying Cosby’s holier than thou “I don't need to swear to be funny” image, while Cosby thought Bonet was pretentious, snotty, and spoke too frequently out of turn. Bonet felt was just Cosby being a sexist. When the allegations against Cosby came out, Bonet was not shy about telling the world, I TOLD YOU SO!

3 Jeffery Tambor And The Cast Of 'Arrested Development'

As with Cosby, many former co-stars came out to defend Tambor after he was accused of sexual harassment, including his Arrested Development kids like Jason Bateman. The rest of the cast, however, has been somewhat silent on those accusations, but all have corroborated the late Jessica Walter’s story about how Tambor was incredibly verbally abusive to her when she played his wife Lucille on the show. After a backlash on social media, Bateman rescinded his defense of Tambor and apologized. While it seems Bateman and Tambor still get along, it does not look like the rest of the Bluth children want to reconcile with dad any time soon.

2 Steven Collins And Jessica Biel (Allegedly)

Anyone with a pulse who was alive in the 1990s remembers 7th Heaven, the show about the pious Camden family whose preacher patriarch Rev. Eric Camden was always ready to guide his family and his community through difficult subjects, like elder abuse, drug abuse, gangs, and everything else a suburban parent might have been paranoid about in 1996. However, in real life, Steven Collins, who played Camden, was anything but family-friendly. Camden admitted that accusations of child molestation made against him were true, effectively ruining his career. Many of his 7th Heaven cast-mates were “shocked” by the news, but Biel is one of the few, along with those who played her siblings, who has remained silent about the issue. Although no major issues on set were ever reported between the two, it’s safe to say that Biel is remaining silent because she does not want to get caught up in a case that is so controversial and disgusting. They might not be feuding per se, but Biel and the rest of her on-screen siblings will not let themselves be seen condoning such a disgusting act. However, we do know for a fact that things became very tense on the set of the show when Biel posed nude for Maxim Magazine.

1 Sara Gilbert And Roseanne Barr

Roseanne Barr might never work again after she tweeted extremely racist comments and was caught making extremely racist and abusive comments to black crew and cast members during the reboot of her sitcom Roseanne. The actress also lost face with the public and her cast-mates when she came out vocally in support of controversial GOP president Donald Trump. Sara Gilbert, who played Rosanne’s daughter Darlene in both the original and reboot series, condemned her former co-star. “Roseanne's recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show.”
