The Marvel Cinematic Universe is arguably one of the most popular and most profitable movie franchises ever. With a good storyline, amazing visuals, and great actors, the MCU was destined to conquer the movie industry from the very beginning. Marvel Studios took years to find the right cast for its franchise. 10 Tom Hiddleston

Kicking off our list is the English actor Tom Hiddleston, who plays the role of Loki in the MCU. Since 2011 — when he made his MCU debut — Loki has become one of the most iconic superheroes in the whole franchise.

However, while appearing on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, Hiddleston revealed that Loki was not his first choice. "I auditioned for the first Thor film ten years ago in 2009." revealed the actor. "And I just thought I was auditioning for a movie. You know, an interesting part in an interesting movie."

9 Sebastian Stan

Now let's move on to Sebastian Stan, who is mostly known for playing Bucky a.k.a. The Winter Soldier in the MCU. What many people don't know is that this actor actually auditioned for another MCU role — Captain America, which eventually went to Chris Evans.

While talking to People Magazine, Stan said: "I was really bummed that I didn’t get Captain America. I remember getting the phone call and going, ‘You were great, but it’s not for you.”

8 Karen Gillan

In case you might not recognize her without all that makeup, Karen Gillan played a pretty prominent character in the MCU — Thanos' daughter and the villain-turned-heroine Nebula. But according to Marvel Studios casting director Sarah Finn, before landing the role of Nebula, Gillan auditioned to play Agent 13, Sharon Carter. “I had been a fan of Karen. She came and she had auditioned for Agent 13 in Captain America," said Finn about Gillan.

7 Jason Momoa

Before landing the role of Aquaman, Jason Momoa almost ended up playing another superhero, We are referring to Drax, who we first had a chance to see in Guardians of the Galaxy.  Even though he auditioned for the role — which went to Dave Bautista — Momoa decided not to take the role. In an interview with Zap2It, Momoa said:  "I was on Stargate: Atlantis for four years playing a similar character called Ronon, who was an alien who didn't say much and grunted. I've been there and done that, whether people have seen it or not. You want to stretch."

6 Lupita Nyong'o

Let's move on to Lupita Nyong'o, who made her MCU debut in the 2018 movie Black Panther as Nakia. However, prior to landing this role, the 12 Years a Slave actress auditioned for the role of Thanos' daughter, Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy. The role of Nebula eventually went to Karen Gillan.

5 John Krasinski

Another actor who wanted to star in the MCU is John Krasinski. During his appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show last year, Krasinski revealed that he had auditioned for the role of none other than Captain America. While talking to Ellen, The Office actor said: "The truth is, they hadn't offered it to [Chris] yet, so they were like, "Let's see who else is out there before we offer it to Chris Evans." And um, I went in and I tested for Captain America.

4 Liam Hemsworth

Next on the list is the Australian actor Liam Hemsworth who is mostly known for starring in The Hunger Games franchise. In a 2019 interview with GQ Australia, the actor revealed that he had auditioned for the role of Thor, which went to his brother, Chris Hemsworth.  "I never really wanted to do it," said Liam Hemsworth about the role. "I always felt I was too young for it -- I was screen testing when I was 18. The other guys in it were all late 20s or early 30s. I didn't feel Thor-ish."

3 Brie Larson

Brie Larson's first MCU appearance was back in 2019 when she starred in both Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame. On her Youtube channel, where she regularly uploads vlogs, Larson revealed to the fans that she had passed on the role of Captain Marvel at first because she was "too much of an introvert". Larson also said that she had auditioned for roles in Iron Man 2 and Thor, but she didn't specify which roles.

2 Jensen Ackles

Let's move on to actor Jensen Ackles, who most people recognize from The CW's series Supernatural where he plays Dean Winchester.  According to Screenrant, Ackles auditioned for the role of Captain America but as we know, it was Chirs Evans who got to play the popular superhero. Rumor has it that Marvel later offered Ackles to play Hawkeye, but the actor turned down the offer.

1 Lindsay Lohan

Wrapping up our list is none other than actress and singer Lindsay Lohan, who as it turns out auditioned for a role in the MCU. In 2017, in an episode of her reality show Lindsay, the actress complained about how she didn't get a role in the MCU. Lohan told her life coach: "Like, with The Avengers, Evan [Hainey, her manager] just sent me a text where he’s like – this was yesterday, or the day before – and he goes "They’re going with an unknown for The Avengers." While she didn't specify which role she wanted, it is most likely Scarlet Witch, as all other female characters were already cast.
