There's always that one role that several actors and actresses can thank for giving them their "big break." These roles propelled them to stardom and made them the A-list stars they are today. However, several celebrities would also rather have fans forget about these famous roles for good.

Gossip Girl was undoubtedly one of the most-watched teenage dramas, starring Blake Lively as Serena van der Woodsen and Penn Badgley and Dan Humphries, but as much as the characters helped launched their careers, the star's revealed that they would rather keep their famous roles a distant memory. This goes for numerous other stars who now cringe at the thought of the roles that made them famous. From Miley Cyrus to Will Smith, these stars don't want anything to do with the roles that launched their careers.

10 Blake Lively - 'Gossip Girl'

Blake Lively's break-through role was starring as Serena van der Woodsen in Gossip Girl from 2007 until 2012. It helped Lively land several other roles, including, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Green Lantern, and The Age of Adaline.

Surprisingly, Lively was not a huge fan of her Gossip Girl character, once admitting, "I would not be proud to be the person who gave someone the cocaine that made them overdose and then shot someone and slept with someone else's boyfriend. People loved it, but it always felt a little personally compromising - you want to be putting a better message out there."

9 Miley Cyrus - 'Hannah Montana'

Several stars regretted their time on the Disney Channel and Miley Cyrus is one of those celebs. Cyrus famously starred on Hannah Montana for four years and admitted that it made her suffer from body dysmorphia.

She shared to Marie Claire in 2015, "I was made to look like someone that I wasn't, which probably caused some body dysmorphia because I had been made pretty every day for so long, and then when I wasn't on that show, it was like, 'Who the f---- am I?'"

8 Will Smith - 'The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air'

While Will Smith pretty much played himself in the 90s classic The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, according to the star, he did not feel like his role portrayed his real-life personality.

Smith told Ebony magazine, "My life experiences are so far beyond the character's life experiences. It was almost like a regression for me to play the character." Despite his feeling about the role, Smith did make it to the show's reunion last year.

7 Angus T. Jones - 'Two And A Half Men'

Angus T. Jones grew to fame starring opposite Charlie Sheen in the comedy Two and a Half Men. While the television show was extremely popular, Jones totally regrets his role as Jake Harper.

During a statement he made for a religious group, Jones felt that the show was "filth," adding, "I'm on 'Two and a Half Men' and I don't want to be on it. Please stop watching." He later left the show in 2014.

6 Adam Brody - 'The O.C.'

Adam Brody is another star whose role in a teen drama helped to launch his Hollywood career. Brody starred as Seth Cohen in The O.C. from 2003 until 2007, and while he didn't regret his character, he is sick of hearing about it.

During an interview with the Huffington Post, he shared, "It gets boring, that's all. The only way it bothers me - it's not that I'm not proud of it - it's that I've exhausted the conversations about it, in my mind."

5 Penn Badgley - 'Gossip Girl'

While Blake Lively expressed her frustrations with her character on Gossip Girl, her castmate and love interest on the show, Dan Humphries, played by Penn Badgley, was not particularly fond of the show's message.

In 2015, he tweeted, "Lol s*** we are *reclining* on New York City. I'm posted up like a futon. Talk about an image of white privilege."

Shailene Woodley is a famous actress and activist, who got her start when she was cast as Amy in the television show, The Secret Life of the American TeenagerThe show brought her instant fame, but towards the end, Woodley expressed her dislike for her character.

"Towards the end, morally, the things that we were preaching on that show weren't aligned with my own integrity," the star shared, adding, "So that was a bit hard to show up to work every day knowing that we were going to project all of these themes to thousands, millions of young adults across the country, when in fact they weren't what I would like to be sending out."

Despite being a highly successful television show, actor Mandy Patinkin left his role on Criminal Minds after the second season. Talking to New York Magazine, Patinkin had a personal conflict with his role.

"The biggest public mistake I ever made was that I chose to do Criminal Minds in the first place...I never thought they were going to kill and rape all these women every night, every day, week after week, year after year. It was very destructive to my soul and my personality," he admitted.

2 Evangeline Lilly - 'Lost'

Actress Evangeline Lilly wasn't fond of her character, Kate, on the hit show Lost, especially as her character developed during the show's six seasons.

During The LOST Boys podcast, Lilly shared, "I always thought she was obnoxious. I mean, not at the beginning. At the beginning, she was kind of cool, and then as the show went on, I felt like she became more and more obnoxious."

Ariana Grande is a mega-star, but she can thank her role on Nickelodeon's Victorious and Sam & Cat, for putting her on the map. According to the Huffington Post, the songstress felt "frustrated" with her role as Cat because she couldn't relate to her character.

"It was a blessing and one of my childhood dreams come true. For a long time, I was attached to a character that was nothing like myself. It was a little frustrating," Grande revealed.
