Living “off the grid” absolutely isn’t for everybody. It takes a can-do attitude and a tenacity that many people, especially celebrities, aren’t used to. That’s why when celebrities do decide to live off the grid, it’s not only a shock to their fans but to people who view stardom as a silver spoon that never hangs empty. Such is the case for Entourage’s Adrian Grenier.

On Entourage, Grenier played Vince Chase, a character obsessed with reaching the heights of Hollywood life for both himself and his friends. But in real life, Grenier has taken a decidedly different trajectory. Far from the glitz and glamor of tinseltown, the HBO star's current plans involve becoming completely self-sufficient and maintaining an eco-friendly existence off the grid.

Adrian Grenier Bought A Farm Outside Of Austin, Texas

Entourage ran on HBO from 2004 to 2011 with 8 seasons. Starring as the titular character Vincent Chase, Adrian Grenier rose to stardom and went on to play characters in films like Trash Fire and The Devil Wears Prada.

For a while, it seemed that his New York City and Los Angeles lifestyle suited him until he found Austin, Texas. In an article posted by People Magazine, Grenier is quoted speaking highly of his newfound love for the city and its people. He loved it so much, that he went out and bought a farm in Bastrop, a town 45 minutes outside of Austin.

"I had friends here, I ran a business here, and liked the pace. Austin is cosmopolitan without being snooty; it's earthy. People are smart and successful but they don't flaunt it. There is nothing to prove, people accept you and it felt good right away."

Grenier Has Big Plans To Be Completely Self Sufficient On His Farm

Not only has he planted personal roots in Texas, he's also planted literal ones. On his farm, he’s began planting all sorts of plants for himself and for the wildlife he hopes to keep in an animal sanctuary on the premises.

“We've planted a fruit forest - peaches, apples, loquats, figs, avocados, grapes, blueberries, and tangerines and we are working on getting the ecosystem of our pond back into balance so we can fish from it. We’ve stocked it with some fathead minnow and feeder fish, eventually we’ll add tilapia to pare down the algae. We’re treating it with probiotics not chemicals, which is a longer process but better for the environment.”

He also plans on owning llamas and goats, he clarifies, “not for a livestock operation but to keep the grass down”.

The Hollywood Lifestyle No Longer Suits Adrian Grenier And He Couldn't Be Happier

The one thing that he seems to be most proud of is his environmental work. He’s the co-founder of the investment company DuContra Ventures, which brings investors and forward-thinkers together to help propel projects that are “better for the planet investing and tools for the giving economy”, according to their investment focus.

In a City LifeStyle Austin article, Grenier relays how the desire to live closer to nature came about during his delve into non-profit ventures.

"I have been doing environmental work for the last 20 years, I've started organizations and run non-profits, all designed to tell people to live more in line with nature - and yet, I wasn't living that way. In many ways, I reached the apex of that promise - if you work hard, you become famous, then you make a lot of money… but it was lackluster at the top."

And as for his former life as a Hollywood celebrity? There's no chance that he'll move back to Los Angeles or go back to acting. When asked about it, his answer was short and stern. "No. And I don’t miss anything about that world."

He further elaborates on the vapidness of living to promote a luxurious but ultimately empty lifestyle.

"Listen, if you go on Instagram long enough, you’re going to find some FOMO somewhere, but everyone is just pretending they’re living their best life. Ultimately, I know that I am, so I don’t even tell anybody about it. Certainly, there’s lots of shiny memories that I crave, but I’ve done too much work not to recognize that I’m here for something bigger than going to nightclubs. I want more now. I want different now. I’ll leave those experiences for the youngsters."

It seems as though Adrian Grenier has solidified himself among the Austinites and the weirdos (term of endearment) in his new farm home. His fans are rooting for him to live a successful life as a Texas farmer!
