Who Is Alabama Luella Barker's Mom, Shanna Moakler?
Shanna Moakler is an actress, model, and reality television star. Starting off modeling at 15, she soon turned to pageants. Shanna's world began to change after she secured her Miss New York USA title in 1995. Soon after, she was crowned the first runner-up at the Miss USA pageant, becoming the reigning Miss USA 1995 later that year after winner Chelsi Smith was crowned Miss Universe.
With the help of her fame from her Miss USA title, Shanna ventured into the acting world. In 1998, she secured a role as a series regular on the television show Pacific Blues. She had her first child with boxer Oscar De La Hoya, daughter Antonia during this time. The relationship ended in 2000, with Shanna filing a $62.5 million papillary suit against the boxer. In it, she claimed that Oscar was an alcoholic and repeatedly abusive towards Shanna and their daughter Antonia.
Shanna moved on to bigger and brighter things after Oscar, securing the title of December 2001's playmate of the month in Playboy magazine. She began dating famed Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker in the summer of 2002, welcoming a son the following year, Landon Barker. Alabama would make her television debut in the show's series finale, which showcased her birth.
The couple would welcome the world into their relationship, starring in "Meet The Barkers," a reality television show that showcased the unconventional couple and their lives together. However, from all of Travis's accounts, the reality show did more harm than good for the couple's relationship.
In Travis's autobiography Can I Say, the drummer recounted how Shanna's character changed after starting the show. He felt like she was doing things just for the cameras. "It was turning into a variety show instead of a reality show — and in my mind, she was behaving out of character on camera, which was carrying over to her not being genuine with me," said Travis in his book.

Travis filed for divorce in 2006, rekindling for a short period but officially calling it quits in 2008. The couple struggled for years to co-parent their children amicably, with many attributing this strain to what has caused tension between Shanna and Alabama over the years.
Despite the initial animosity between Shanna and Travis, things seemed good between the actress and her children. Over the years, she commented about how she and her ex wanted the best for their children. But as her ex's relationship with Kourtney Kardashian became public, so did her children's feelings about their relationship with their mother.
In 2021, Landon responded to a comment on TikTok saying his mother isn't in their life like Barker. Alabama followed suit on Instagram, writing, "My mom has never completely been in my life. Can you guys stop painting her out to be an amazing mom? Did your moms ask to see you on Mother's Day - mine didn't. I'm done keeping it a secret, reality shows."
Shanna responded, calling her children's claims "utterly ridiculous." Her boyfriend Matthew Rondeau came to her support, calling Shanna a wonderful mother, insisting that was one of the many reasons he loved her so much. Her children disapproved of Shanna's relationship with Matthew, with Alabama taking to Instagram days earlier claiming he was cheating on her mother.
The public acknowledgment of a rift in their relationship only further divided the mother and daughter. Alabama stayed with her father, Travis, and Shanna continued her relationship with Matthew.

Alabama had little to no contact with her mother after she and her siblings publicly expressed their opinions on her mothering. It wasn't until Shanna's boyfriend Matthew was arrested on felony domestic violence charges that we heard Alabama was in contact with her mother again.
Alabama told her following on Instagram that she had checked in with her mother after hearing about Matthew's arrest. She said her mother was okay and Matthew needed "serious help." While Alabama may have felt that way, it seems Shanna was more forgiving, still dating Matthew to this day. The domestic violence charges against him were dropped just last week.
Alabama has been quiet about her current relationship with her mother. She doesn't follow her on social media and doesn't shout her out for birthdays or special occasions. Shanna, however, insists the pair have reconciled, telling UsWeekly in April that she and her children are in a fantastic place. Time will tell if this mother-daughter pair really are on the road to salvaging their relationship.
