Whoopi Goldberg wants the world to know that she condemns the anti-Semitic comments made by television host Nick Cannon on his podcast.

In a clip released by The View on July 15, Goldberg expressed her disgust for Cannon’s bigotry, comparing his anti-Semitism to racism. “You can’t start on people because of their religion, just like people shouldn’t be starting on us for our color,” the television personality explained.

Goldberg’s comments come just as Viacom CBS terminated its contract with Nick Cannon in response to his remarks. Cannon had worked for the company for over two decades.

Goldberg Slams Cannon’s Controversial Facebook Response

Cannon responded to Viacom CBS’s decision in a lengthy Facebook post in which he refuses to apologize for his behavior. “I don’t have to defend myself here, the proof is in the history,” Cannon wrote.

Goldberg, however, rejected Cannon’s statement, citing the man’s lack of historical education.

“I don’t understand what’s going on. I’m not sure if it’s just ‘oh, I didn’t know, I don’t know history.’ If you don’t know history, don’t say anything until you figure it out. I don’t understand,” Goldberg argued, before adding passionately, “I mean am I crazy?”

The former Star Trek actress and current television personality went on to use Cannon’s remarks as a way to criticize racism.

“Anti-Semitism, any kind of racism...racism is racism, and this is a specific racism. If it’s not good for you, it ain’t good for me,” Goldberg stated.

Anti-Semitism On The Rise

The clip also deals with statistics which seem to indicate that anti-Semitism is making a comeback.

When Goldberg asked Meghan McCain her opinion on Cannon’s firing, the political commentator and daughter of late Senator John McCain included an alarming report in her response. “84% of Jews surveyed think that anti-Semitism is on the rise in the last five years,” McCain said.

Nick Cannon is not the only celebrity to recently make bigoted remarks towards the Jewish community.

At the beginning of the clip, Goldberg comments that two other figures have recently made anti-Semitic comments. According to Goldberg, Cannon’s Facebook post, “comes on the heels of NFL Star Desean Jackson and Ice Cube posting anti-Semitic stuff as well.”
