Amber Pike and Matt Barnett were one of the couples married during season one of Love is Blind and their romance was passionate. While they had insane chemistry, they did have multiple issues pop up before the wedding. Not only was there another contestant who had fallen in love with Barnett, but Amber had been keeping a secret from her fiancé.

She had quite a bit of financial debt that she hadn't yet told him about. It was certainly a surprise for Barnett, but it did make for a good storyline for what is supposed to be a dramatic show.

Amber's financial debt was an issue for Barnett who was obviously unsettled by Pike's debt amount and how she handled her payments.

These money issues, and the fact that Barnett caught someone else's eye too, gave these two some things to consider before walking down the aisle. Of course, once a person gets married, their spouse's debt can become their debt.

Fans all know that Amber and Barnett both said, "yes" at the altar and are still married 3 years later! But did Amber and Matt work out their financial situation? Or did Amber's student loans hurt their marriage before it even began?

Amber And Barnett Had Opposite Financial Situations

All the money Amber owed came as a surprise to her brand-new fiancé. For his part, Barnett was financially sound with no debt. He had bought a house and had a good job. It made him nervous that she would be coming into the marriage with debt at all, let alone about $20,000 from student loans.

He was even more surprised by a makeup credit card Amber had also had outstanding debt on. Barnett was then speechless when Amber admitted to not making regular payments on her debt. He said he wasn't nervous, however, he seemed nervous to all Love is Blind viewers, and they couldn't blame him.

Still, he said yes to Amber at the altar because what's $20,000 when one is in love? After the wedding, viewers have to depend on Instagram to see how the couple is doing. Both Amber and Barnett are very active on social media and keep fans up to date on their marriage and the many vacations they seem to take.

The young and attractive couple are still together, so it seems the money issue is no longer a problem.

Barnett Proved He Was In It For The Long Haul

Fans definitely wondered what happened to Amber's debt since it was such a big storyline on Love is Blind. While many seem to have gotten the impression that Barnett paid off Amber's student loans, that's not really happened.

Amber took care of her debt all on her own with what we can only guess would be influencer deals. After doing ads on Instagram after appearing on Love is Blind, Amber made a lot more money than she did before the show.

But she did have some help from Barnett; a Reddit thread attempts to explain how Amber was able to pay off her $20,000 debt.

Apparently, Barnett also sold his house to help out. Yes, he sold his own home to pay off his wife's debt. If that isn't love! Barnett documented himself surprising Amber with a cake once her student loans were paid off entirely because what else would they do as social media celebrities?

This is where many got the idea that Barnett paid off all of Amber's loans on his own. They thought the cake was his way of saying he took care of it for her and while he did in some way, Amber paid off the majority on her own.

Amber Claims She Wasn't The Only One With Debt

Due to being on a reality show, there is a fair amount of editing and secrecy, but Amber claims she wasn't the only member of the relationship with student and credit card debt. After the show aired, Amber stated that Barnett also had student loans and debt from credit cards that he was also paying.

The difference was that Barnett had been making regular payments on his monthly bills and Amber had not.

She didn't stop making payments because she was merely irresponsible. Amber had been open over the emotional effect an abortion had on her where she had to focus more on her mental health, leaving little room for growing her career.

Fortunately, Barnett embraced his wife's past and challenges fully, and the two moved forward together.
