Marcio walked into his audition, not knowing he was about to leave the judges and the rest of America in tears. The singer brought along his then 6-month-old son, Rashad. Luke Bryan immediately asked, “Can I please hold him?” The 28-year-old contestant continued to share his story about being brought up in a rough neighborhood.

The contestant told the judges, “My mother tried her hardest, but child services ended up putting me and my sister into the system,” explaining he used music as a gateway. Marcio shared that both he and his sister spent time in the system, and so did his mother growing up. He then told the judges that after his sister gave birth and couldn’t keep it her son, he wasted no time before taking him in and adopting him as his own. Check out the clip below!

The singer told the tearful judges , “the police and the social worker came to my home, they brought him, a week-old baby, and they said, ‘You have to decide if you will keep this child or he goes into the system.’ I looked at them and I said: ‘I’ll take him’. I didn’t want him to have to go through what I went through.” It was at that very moment every viewer reached for a box of tissues!

Marcio continued his audition performing “Jealous” by Labrinth, earning a unanimous “yes” from the judges. It is reasons like this that make a show like American Idol such a favorite!
