Marcio Donaldson, American Idol’s most recent contestant, is warming hearts across the nation. American Idol is back after its goodbye season in 2016, and the contestants are bringing their ‘A’ game. The singing reality show, which has brought much success to past contestants such as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, and Fantasia is back for another season after saying their final goodbye 2 years ago.
The show, which has clearly had a change of heart, is back on air and has been currently undergoing the audition process and certain contestants are melting our hearts. This season's judges are Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Katy Perry and they have been in for a rollercoaster of a ride of emotions, particularly with recent contestant Marcio Donaldson.
Marcio walked into his audition, not knowing he was about to leave the judges and the rest of America in tears. The singer brought along his then 6-month-old son, Rashad. Luke Bryan immediately asked, “Can I please hold him?” The 28-year-old contestant continued to share his story about being brought up in a rough neighborhood.
The contestant told the judges, “My mother tried her hardest, but child services ended up putting me and my sister into the system,” explaining he used music as a gateway. Marcio shared that both he and his sister spent time in the system, and so did his mother growing up. He then told the judges that after his sister gave birth and couldn’t keep it her son, he wasted no time before taking him in and adopting him as his own. Check out the clip below!
The singer told the tearful judges , “the police and the social worker came to my home, they brought him, a week-old baby, and they said, ‘You have to decide if you will keep this child or he goes into the system.’ I looked at them and I said: ‘I’ll take him’. I didn’t want him to have to go through what I went through.” It was at that very moment every viewer reached for a box of tissues!
Marcio continued his audition performing “Jealous” by Labrinth, earning a unanimous “yes” from the judges. It is reasons like this that make a show like American Idol such a favorite!
