It’s safe to say that Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) star Chris Hemsworth and actress Isla Fisher are longtime acquaintances. After all, both used to star in the Australian tv drama Home and Away (the very same one that started off the careers of Julian McMahon, Melissa George, and the late Heath Ledger).
Both actors also grew up in Australia (although Fisher was born in Muscat, Oman) and moved back there from Hollywood in recent years. Today, it appears that Hemsworth and Fisher have grown quite close. And it might be because they can readily relate with each other, both being celebrity parents determined to raise their children away from the spotlight.
They’ve Been Spotted Together Recently
Fisher and Hemsworth were seen catching up over coffee in Sydney just a few weeks ago. They were even joined by one of Hemsworth’s children who stayed on the actors lap the entire time. Several months before this sighting, Fisher and her beau, comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, were also invited to Hemsworth and wife Elsa Pataky’s New Year’s party.
At the same time, Fisher had also been spotted hanging around Hemsworth and Pataky’s property. In fact, she even paid a visit to Pataky’s beloved foal Akoha. Fisher even posted a photo of herself and Akoha with the caption, “Don’t worry, we were both tested before we took this pic.” The actress also tagged Pataky.
They’re Practically Neighbors
Hemsworth and Pataky moved their family to Australia in 2014. From the beginning, the couple had always been vocal about the benefits of moving their brood down under. “We were living shoulder to shoulder in the suburbs and thought that's not how we want our kids to grow up,” Hemsworth explained during an interview with Modern Luxury (via Marie Claire). “Moving to a kind of farm setup back here on the coast in Australia has been the best thing… Here, we just walk out the door and head to the beach down the street. It's a much more simple [sic] life.”
Meanwhile, it became clear that Fisher and her family have also moved permanently to Australia after Fisher was spotted picking up her children from school at Sydney. Even prior to 2020, however, it seems that Fisher had always considered moving back home. After all, it’s where she feels relaxed the most. “I'm the happiest when I'm home. I miss it when I'm not here. I don't feel any pressure when I'm in Australia,” the actress once told Stellar magazine. “I don't have to say or do or be anything. I mean, I don't even have to wear shoes.”
When Fisher and Cohen decided to move to Australia, they also opted to get a home in Byron Bay, the same area where Hemsworth and Pataky have also purchased a home. As it turns out, Fisher had always dreamt specifically about settling down here. Even while speaking Marie Claire in 2018, Fisher admitted, “I have this secret fantasy of slowing down, moving to Byron Bay, getting off the grid and sitting on the sand with a Vegemite sandwich.”
They Also Have Common Acquaintances
Fisher and Hemsworth may not have worked together again since Home and Away, but it seems they’ve been working with the same group of actors. For instance, Fisher starred in the 2018 comedy Tag alongside Hemsworth’s fellow MCU actor Jeremy Renner. While discussing the movie with Jimmy Kimmel, Fisher even recalled the time when Renner had injured both arms on set, admiring how he managed to keep going despite the pain. “He just carried on,” the actress revealed. “He didn’t even stop for a moment.”
Interestingly, Hemsworth and Renner aren’t the only Avengers that Fisher have worked with so far. Around the time that she was relatively new in Hollywood, Fisher starred in the 2005 drama London alongside Chris Evans. Later on, Fisher also joined the cast of the 2013 mystery thriller Now You See Me, which happens to star Mark Ruffalo.
As far as Marvel links go, fans may also be interested to learn that MCU regular Cobie Smulders once appeared on Arrested Development where Fisher was a regular. Meanwhile, in the MCU, Hemsworth and Smulders have starred in all Avengers movies so far.
There Are Rumors About Isla Fisher Coming To Marvel
Hemsworth figures prominently in the MCU’s Phase Four slate of films with the much-anticipated release of Thor: Love and Thunder. The fourth Thor movie already boasts of a cast that includes MCU actors Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Karen Gillan, and Chris Pratt. Matt Damon is also expected to make another cameo in this installment. Aside from them, the film will also mark the highly anticipated MCU debuts of Russell Crowe, Melissa McCarthy, and Christian Bale.
In recent months, fans have also begun to suspect that Fisher herself has joined the Thor 4 cast. This is because the actress had been spotted hanging out with some of the cast while enjoying a rugby match at Sydney Olympic Park. Since then, some have been convinced that Fisher would make a cameo in the MCU film at the very least.
