Kate Hudson comes from Hollywood royalty, but we know her from some of her best roles like Penny Lane in Almost Famous and her athletic wear company, Fabletics. She's always been a prominent force in showbiz, but she wouldn't be anywhere without her family.

Granted she's always had a complicated relationship with her father, Bill Hudson, who was in the band, The Hudson Brothers, with his two brothers, Brett and Mark. But she's always had a pretty solid relationship with her mother, Hollywood icon, Goldie Hawn.

Even though she didn't spend much time with her biological father, she does have a father in Kurt Russell, who has been her mother's partner for over 30 years, most of Hudson's life. Now she sees Russell as more of her father than her biological one. But who wouldn't want Russell as a father?

Here's what their relationship is like.

Picking Up The Pieces After Bill Hudson

When Hudson was young, she and her brother Oliver virtually never saw their father, Bill Hudson. He claims that the reason he started to fade from his family was that he thought Hawn was being unfaithful. After they divorced 1982, a year later Hawn started her relationship with Russell.

Then Bill was completely nonexistent, but in later accounts, he claimed that Hawn had turned his kids against him. Hudson begs to differ. She can't even remember her mother talking badly about her father.

Either way, Bill started another family, and Hudson got a surrogate father in Russell and their family has grown ever since. Russell had the task of picking up the pieces of Hawn's broken family and putting them back together, and he's done a hell of a job.

Kurt Russell Is Her Father- Not Her Step-Father

Hudson says that she instantly knew Russell was a good guy ever since her mother first started dating him. Early in their relationship, after Hawn took Russell back to her house one night, Russell went and peeked on Hudson and her brother while they slept.

She told Today that he sat there watching them sleep for a while, and right then, Hudson and Hawn knew he was a family man.

Since then he sees the Hudson children as his own kids, and they both see him as their dad too. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Hudson said her biological father "doesn't know me from a hole in the wall. But I don't care. I have a dad [Russell]. The bottom line is, you call your kids on their f--king birthday. I'm glad I had a dad who was there on my birthday."

In another interview with McCall's magazine, Hudson reaffirmed Russell was her dad. "Kurt is my dad. Kurt is a savior who came into my life."

Russell's fatherly skills have apparently helped Hudson a lot throughout her life too. Talking to Howard Stern in 2016, Hudson said, "The trust I got from [Russell] in terms of his dependability was priceless for me. He is so honest, so brutally honest. I love him so much; he is just a great guy."

Speaking to Rachael Ray, Hudson said her mother and Russell are so cute together but mostly they inspire her.

Now every father's day Hudson posts a picture of her and Russell, calling him "pa." This year she posted an absolutely heartwarmingly cute photo of Russell holding her youngest daughter, Rani, when she was a baby, alongside Hawn. She captioned it with; "I love him to pieces ❤️ Happy Fathers Day to our Pa."

There was also another photo she posted on Instagram, which is also the cutest, from around the time she had Rani. This time Hawn is holding Rani, and Russell is touching the baby's head and looking on. So precious.

Hudson captioned that photo with; "Grandma and Grandpa duty...or should I say Mr and Mrs Claus."

And we can't forget the birthday wishes Hudson also sends her father via her Instagram. One year she posted a picture of herself and Russell in the cockpit of a plane, saying, "Love this man ❤️🙏❤️ Happy Birthday Pa!!

It's clear that not only does Russell have fun with Hawn, he also has fun with his surrogate children and is always there for them. Hudson says they aren't a perfect family, they have their ups and downs like any other, but they are a family that will always come together. Hudson's right. She is one lucky girl. Now Rani will likely get the same treatment.
