Andrew Garfield’s silence about the possibility of him and Tobey Maguire donning the red and blue costume again in Spider-Man: No Way Home starring Tom Holland didn’t fool some Marvel fans.

Andrew Garfield Doesn't Address Spider-Man Rumors With Jimmy Fallon

The English actor, who played Peter Parker on The Amazing Spider-Man films, appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Those who expected Garfield to address those pressing Spidey rumors were disappointed.

Garfield talked about his new movie Mainstream, with Fallon steering clear of asking him the question everyone in the fandom is dying to know the answer to.

“Jimmy not talking about the Spider-Man: No Way Home rumors to Andrew Garfield, ‘My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined,’” one fan commented on YouTube.

“No Spider-Man talk, okay,” another commented, adding a smiling face with tear emoji, which seemed quite fitting.

"His publicist probably asked Fallon not to ask him about Spider-Man. Nevertheless, see you at the movies on December 17th Andrew!” another hopeful fan commented.

Garfield Says His Rumored Return As Spider-Man Is 'Hilarious'

Earlier this month, Garfield shut down all rumors during an appearance on MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast.

“There isn’t anything to ruin, bro,” Garfield said after the host asked him to clear the rumors about his return as Spider-Man.

“I had to just quickly cut you off—there’s nothing to ruin! It’s so crazy! Dude, it’s f***ing hilarious to me, because I do have this [secret] Twitter account, and I see how often Spider-Man is trending, and people freaking out about a thing,” he continued.

Garfield’s adventure as Spider-Man was cut short after 2014 sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The two films’ middling reviews and reception convinced Sony to collaborate with Marvel Studios to bring Spidey into the MCU. In comes Tom Holland, who first donned the costume in the 2016 movie Captain America: Civil War.

Despite sounding convincing, some in the Marvel fandom aren’t too sure we have seen the last of Garfield as Spidey.

The possibility of a Spidey-verse was at the center of the animated movie Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, with three iterations of the superhero coexisting. But will No Way Home also follow this approach when it comes out in December? Fans can’t be sure yet.

The third movie starring Holland as Peter Parker has already confirmed the return of two villains from the other Spidey films, Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock from Spider-Man 2 and Jamie Foxx’s Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Moreover, Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role of Doctor Strange and reignite the connection between the Sony movies and the broader MCU.
